Repointing brickwork using a hawk and trowel and finishing to a birds beak finish. I will show you how to obtain this finish for your brickwork project. A great pointing style for any type of brickwork, although it’s slightly more time consuming than a bucket handle finish, you will certainly make it an eye catching feature to any wall. @@CoastalWallTiesRustington Appreciate it! I do concrete (mostly skateboard ramps but also some sidewalks, patios, etc.) but have recently started doing some stone and brickwork, too. It's fun to learn and get better with each project.

Ah, that sounds like a great job. I’ve always liked the look of wood plank concrete stamping, would love to work with someone doing that kind of thing.

Really nice.....made total sense when you cleared the bed joint after doing the perps, those are the kind of small, almost throwaway tips that make all the difference. I freely admit I wouldn't have thought of doing that, I would have carried on filling the bed joint into the perp mortar.

Thanks mate, I got a case coming up with 380 m2 of this method, get paid per m2 so it’s perfect this!

Nice, we sell a diamond mortar raking blade that is really good and lasts a very long time. I reckon you could do 380m2 with 3 of them. Go to www.va-remedial.co.Uk if interested.

Verrry, very nice pointing. Well demonstrated.. Marketing very limited for such quality workmanship.

Thanks Donald, shame about the sound quality, and the brickwork doesn’t really do it justice. Thank you for the comment though.

Very skillful demonstration of birds beak pointing however this is not a very subtle style of pointing and any suggestion of a 1:3 mortar mix is too strong unless you are dealing with engineering bricks. If any would-be pointers require reliable technical guidance on repointing, do take the trouble to read the Building Research Establishment publication “Good Repair Guide No 24” (Repointing external brickwork walls) as this provides authourative information, including clarifying suitable mortar mixes, warnings of when worn pointing affects structural integrity and the importance of using lime pointing on old solid walls. Its only 10 squid after all.

What price per meter for grind out and point for this style?
@CoastalWallTiesRustington

It would depend on your speed Nigel, and depending on your area, could vary greatly. I would say about £40 per sqm

Wat cement is the best for this work??? and thanks
@CoastalWallTiesRustington
@CoastalWallTiesRustington 2 года назад
Any cement is fine, if your referring to mortar then a 5 sand, 1 hydrated lime and 1 cement will do, but it also depends on the bricks used as to the strength of the mortar.

@@CoastalWallTiesRustington I am looking at repointing my 1930s house... It's common brick... Would a 4 to 1 mix be okay.... Also looking at changing quite a few damaged bricks due to frost damage.... Would changing bricks effect the brick ties as not sure we're they would be located until I remove the bricks and don't wish to weaken the wall... I may be just being daft but thought it best to ask... Thanks and great videos by the way.

It’s actually 25mm believe it or not, just really large joints. Nice, what I’d do to live in Australia, beautiful country. Just a note with your other comment about perps first, I did say in the video you can do it either way but perps first is the general rule of thumb. Thanks for watching. 👍 have a good day mate 😉
