Love all your videos. They’re so detailed and I learned a lot. I just started to grow them. I bought a few online. They came in with tiny nursery pots and soil. I just noticed a little growth now. I have a question...when should I repot them in the soil you recommended?

Generally speaking, Hoya doesn't mind to be a bit pot bounded since most of them are epiphytic. I would say if you notice roots start to come out from the bottom of the pot, you may consider repotting it.

Thanks for video, am about try pollinating some of mine that are flowering! Great to have an experienced friend to guide you, but it's really strange advice, as not 'thinning out' goes against planting-on seedling process for just about every other plant - indoor/outdoor/fruit/vegetable! 😅 The seedlings need room to grow their roots to develop into plants. The smaller ones are going to get smothered out. I can understand keeping together for smaller seedlings, but most of these are big enough to have tiny pot each (as they have their 'true leaves'). I think I'll be separating if mine get this big...but would love to see update on this! 🤓

I think Hoya are a bit different than other species. Hoya are mostly epiphytic so they do not have an extensive root system. As a result, over-potting them will generally lead to root rots as too much water is retained in the soil. In the case of aroids or vegetables gardening, you're absolutely right to separate the seedlings once they're grown.

Yes, of sure see the logic of root rot, but was thinking of that! Separating out would be more control, like succulents and cacti, with having a much smaller and less deep pot - than is needed for a group of seedlings, needing a bigger pot - would help prevent water retention in soil. Sounds like it'd be a good comparative experiment :)

I got the seeds from a good friend locally. I believe there're a few reputable sellers on FB you can purchase seeds from.

How long did it take from the time you planted the seeds to when you transplanted them? Also, where did you purchase your seeds?
@amandalaw7131
@amandalaw7131 3 года назад
It was 9 months I believe. I think they could have grown faster if I have given it more light. 😅

I always learn so much from your videos! I had no idea about the seedlings naming system before I started watching your channel. But... what happens when you take cuttings of those seedlings? What do you call them? Side note, something about the way you say your intro makes me instantly cheerful. :)
@amandalaw7131
@amandalaw7131 3 года назад
Thank you so much!! 😊 In regards to the nomenclature... if the seedlings grow up and you decide to take cuttings from it, those will not be called seedlings since they're genetically identical to the mother plant.

@@amandalaw7131 Oh wow! Seems so weird that only the seedling (not its cuttings) get a special name. Thanks for the info!
