Repotting this big boy has been a little overdue. Luckily this didn't take too long and I wanted to show you guys the easiest and best way to do it. Make sure you watch the entire video if you plan on repotting your desert rose any time! Plant prudently!

I would suggest taking an easier approach to caring for this plant. The only thing you need to do to take care of this plant is raise it 2 inches above the original soil line every so often (can be done every 3 to 4 months or every year or so depending on how big you want the caudex to be). You do not need to prune the roots or add any additional nutrients to the plant. I would also recommend not using this sort of soil as it can potentially lead to root rot because of how compact it becomes, something like a 70/30 blend of pine bark and organic material would be best. You can also trim the branches back if you would like to keep it short. For every branch you trim back, apply cinnamon to the wound and soon you will have 3 to 4 more new branches appearing.

I live in Florida I finely got pots this year and planted some of them give some to neighbors I enjoy your video and information I also put in osmocote And bone meal I’m 81 and I fine them easy to care for and they are beautiful I have red , white, pink and white, and purple there all beautiful thank you enjoy

You are supposed to "raise the plant, in the pot or in the ground when replanting. Only cut the small roots on the upper sides as you will be raising them out of the soil. This will give you a more visible base which is one of the best characteristics of a Desert Rose.

I just repotted my first adenium! I used a soft brush to carefully clean roots and caudex. I made 2 mistakes originally. My pot was tooo deep and my soil composition wasn’t correct. I just swept my floor and had fun! She looks Much happier now. Thanks!

Hey Justin, I'm a subscriber from Lake Charles, LA where we enjoy a solidly subtropical climate here and yes, always each summer, the threat of a hurricane. In fact we just had one not long ago that did substantial damage. I am a grower of succulents who will purchase some desert roses via Etsy soon. It's the latter part of August (8/2/22), so I need to get moving! I'm trying to watch a lot of RU-vid videos to educate myself on how to care for this most interesting succulent. thank you... have my first desert rose for about a year now and it has gone through changes, very healthy until late fall, then dropped all of it's leaves and I later learned it has a dormancy period... just cut the roots back a lot and planning to grow it as a bonsai plant... thanks for sharing what you know... yes, had trouble with mites, little gnats, etc., what do you recommend to keep the gnats away?

I have one of these...got it dying on clearance for 1.00 nursed it back to life and would like to repot it ... it's current pot has little strings dipping down into water so I have not been able to over "love" on it... if I get a similar pot but bigger, what is the best soil to use? That will still wick up some? Very much a beginner...

A lot of rain through winter this year and got a lot of root rot. How long can you keep a desert rose out of the pot?

Your video is awesome. I reside in Kentucky, too. I received 2 Tropical Desert double flowered Rose plants. I ordered one for my sister in Illinois. She sent me a photo, and her plant is incredible! The 2 that I received are small. I'm disappointed. They were in a 6" pot. I purchased a 10" in diameter ceramic pot thinking the bigger the pot, the bigger the Tropical Desert Rose. The 2nd pot is different; about 6" in diameter. The photo showed a Bansai tree. I'd like to get another pot like that, and replant the one that's in the 10" diameter. Please help! Any suggestions. I'm using Organic cactus succulent soil, put limestone rocks on top, and Roberta's Bounty, which is a fertilizer. Thank you so much!! Hope you can answer my questions or tips. Liz 😘👍

so, what is the best soil? on one end from Jerome in Bonsai Supply he is saying to use the Bonsai soil, other people say to use the cactus/succulent soil. Which is the best that you know of?

I use the bonsai supply soil. It's faster draining and the last thing you want to do is worry about rot

Does the size of the pot matter? How much bigger than the plant does the pot need to be for repotting?

If it's winter they really don't need any water. In spring or summer you should wait about a week to water

I have heard that the potting cactus mix with miracle grow does not drain properly. And it has gotten too compact for me.

Can anyone advise how deep the roots are if one of these is planted in the ground, has been for at least 5 yrs, but is only about 3 1/2 feet tall. Bulb is about 4 inches across. I need to move it due to Ixora's rooting thru and around it. I want to get it out before the Ixora's get any bigger. I am planning to pot it, as I removed another that was planted and entwined with it and it is doing much better. I think the hot dry summers are just too much for it. Am I going to be digging to the other side of the world?

These plants like shallow and wide pots. Almost bowl shaped pots. The Bulb will get thicker and then roots will grow out instead of down making the roots thicker too.

I've never claimed to be an expert. If you watch my intro video I actually say I'm not classically trained as a botanist. Instead, I've learned from years of working in greenhouses and growing these guys on my own. I'm just trying to share what I know which is fairly significant because this plant is doing exceptionally well. He's put on a bunch of mass. I do also keep notes off to the side because I have trouble remembering everything I want to say when the camera is rolling.

Your plant still alive ? you’re not do it right, you cutting the roof and plant right away you’re going to kill it. Let me give you advice anytime you cut the roof you must let it dry two weeks before you re-plant.

Yes it is! It's done really well this season too. He's put on some mass and flowered a bunch too. Please feel free to give me any constructive feedback you'd like, but respectfully. As always there are a ton of plants out there and just about as many minute ways to care for them too. No one person can know everything there is to know about every plant plant out there.
