Repulse Bay or Tsin Shui Wan is a bay in the southern part of Hong Kong Island, located in the Southern District, Hong Kong. It is one of the most expensive residential areas in the world.
Repulse Bay is a well-known, popular beach and is easily accessible from central Hong Kong. It’s a long, sandy stretch of soft sand with a strip of shady trees. It’s a lovely swimming beach but don’t expect a surf beach. It’s more of a sunbathe and paddle beach. The water is calm, with gently lapping waves. There can sometimes be some green weed but apart from this, it is a nice, clean beach.
Facilities include lifeguards, shark nets, toilets and change rooms and a small-scale mall, called The Pulse. Along the beachfront, you’ll find a string of smart restaurants, cafes and bars, like Fratellis, Amalfitana and Limewood (although on a nice weekend, it’s best to book ahead or are else be prepared to wait for a seat).
Aside from the beach itself, there are 2 other often overlooked points of interest:
i) Seaview Promenade is a very scenic and easy 40 min walk along the coast, linking Repulse Bay with Deep Water Bay beach.
ii) the wonderfully colourful Tin Hau and Kwun Yam temple complex is hidden away at the very far south end of the beach. It’s free and definitely worth a look.
GETTING THERE: 6A, 6X and 260 buses from Central run frequently. The trip takes about 20 min and the ride at the top of the double-decker bus is very scenic
