The integration of desal with the coolant water system would make sense for any thermal power source, right? I guess for now that's fission, gas, geothermal, or CSP. Hopefully in the long term fusion will also be an option.
Hydrogen for transport makes no sense at all. Between generation, storage , transport and use it is likely to be only 15% efficient as opposed to over 80% efficiency for battery electric vehicles. Added to that the vehicles are going to be more expensive than BEVs as well. In regard to land usage, the land beneath solar panels can be used for agriculture and in many cases the agricultue benefits from the shade of the panels (it's called agrivoltaics) plus solar panels can be used as weather protection for car parks and put on rooves of buildings, areas which otherwise would be unused. Solar installation prices are falling so fast and nuclear prices are rising to fast that Nuclear is on the cusp of being totally uneconomic even reuising an existing plant.
