@@autismmalaysia what will you advise in this situation. My son is very responsive to his speech therapist during his sessions but when we try to replicate the techniques in our day to day activities, he doesn't respond to us. We are really trying our best. Do you have any tips please?
Hi, thank you for reaching out. We would encourage to try discussing with his speech therapist to ask if it would be possible for you to sit in and join in his speech therapy sessions and try out the strategies with the presence of his therapist so that he learns to generalise receiving instructions from yourself as well - this support can then slowly be faded off. We would also recommend the use of highly reinforcing items as motivation to reward him whenever he does show compliance as well. We hope that you have found this helpful. Should you require further and more specific support, do reach us at enquiries@autismmalaysia and our team would love to get in touch with you for an initial appointment. Thank you!
