It's hard to believe, but it's been almost 10 years since anyone drove from Mount Pleasant to Charleston on the Grace Memorial Bridge. To commemorate the occasion, For this week's throwback Thursday, SCDOT video producer Drew Stewart dug up some video of the bridge that is now, "gone with the wind."

Although I am from New Jersey, my grandmother's brother took up residence in Charleston SC after WWI. Still have relatives there, I remember these bridges, and also photographed them.

Such a good video! my dad told me stories of how his brakes failed going down this bridge. Scariest bridge ever!

This bridge should've been replaced in the 1960s. To bad the lazy asses had the idea to build the Pearman instead, the one that didn't even last 45 years.

wern’t always that way. need to remember that many men built that once beautiful structure and advanced charleston to what it is today. harbor bridge today with its fancy bicycle lane and sidewalk may not age well and will someday be blown apart as well

Ehh, it was wide enough for the cars of the 1920s. Also, lets not forget it want built to very high standards, meaning that they could get way with waterer easily fixable design deficiencies they wanted to. Same thing could be applied to the Pearman Bridge to a lesser extent.
