Thank you for sharing this clip. Her voice at age 48 here was not much different from that 13 years before at the Salzburg Festival -- simply amazing! What a great singer and actress!
I have just discovered this lovely voice Reri Grist. It's one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. Thank you for this. If you have more videos of Ms. Grist please post. I'm a new fan.
How wonderful....I too am very glad to see more videos of Reri Grist on youtube. Also note how wonderful she sounds this late in her career. Such an incredible singer/actress.
She was my first Rosina in Barber and Gilda in Rigoletto - Vancouver early 60's. She still sounded lovely at age 75 singing 'Somewhere' from West Side Story - a role she created. It's on YT
Sopranos don't usually peak until their mid 40s (unless they damaged their voice through misuse). Film and tv has a lot to answer for, making everyone think that leading ladies should be no older than 25! There is such waste in the world of opera today because it has been infected by this point of view.
An amazing voice, but extremely strange that she does not complete the final high scale up to E natural. I have never heard it simply omitted. I am wondering if she was sick at this particular performance, thus asked permission from Bohm to omit it, or whether she did the whole run this way.
In the 1967 performance she sang the high E, you can watch it on my channel. I guess she was not able to reach it easily at this later stage of her career, which is only natural. But honestly, to be able to sing with such a beautiful voice at age 48 is simply AMAZING!!! Love and respect for Reri Grist!
I have this kind of voice but I don't know how to classify it. Also, my speaking voice is quite low as opposed to Reri's high-pitched speaking voice, so I'm a bit confused.
Boehm died in 1981 so if this production stems from 1989, there has to be another conductor. Judging from Reri Grist's appearance, it does seem to be "later".

@skyhighsoprano I think that may vary with the exact type of voice--some types do seem to peak quite a bit earlier than that, possibly in the 26-32 range in cases. An elfin-lyric voice such as Grist's is so rare that reliable statistics may not even exist--I have heard only one other of the type (Judith Halasz.)
Vocally, not quite up to her recording of a few decades earlier (my favorite), but still outstanding. She may have had the finest elfin-lyric voice ever recorded, yet there is very little of her on YT. This kind of voice is very rare--Judith Halász has the only other example I have ever heard.
