today marks the 35th anniversary of this infamous break-in and intense 911 call before it was made into a segment for Rescue 9-1-1-'s 4-18-89 "pilot" episode.
This story scared me when it first aired, I call it "Terror In The Night" which is the perfect name since it was a horrific nightmare made real. I believe what the brother did was perfectly justified
I'm surprised the burglar wasn't looking for the little girl... that she didn't have to hide with the phone or anything. What a confusing phone call too...
It’s been 34 years since this happened so Laura is 42 and Buddy is 48 now. This happened on a Wednesday, 11 days before Christmas, and on my paternal uncle Sal’s 36th birthday. When I saw the man come in with the gun, I was terrified. I’m sure she could never say “Thank you” enough to Valerie for what she did to help her. I’m sure when this was happening to Laura, her heart was beating really fast, fear was running through her, blood was racing through her veins, and chills were running down her spine. I bet Laura was scarred for a long time after this happened. I would be too if I was in a situation like this. My mother says I have protection. When I say scarred, I meant emotional scars. I could tell that Laura was terrified by the sound of her voice. It was not a dream. It was a nightmare. I'm sure this is one story she may never tell her children if she has any.
I wonder when shapiro heard this whole 9-1-1- call and Laura yells "oh god buddy" he may has finally decided that Rescue 9-1-1- should become a series about true EMERGENCY CALLS.
I wonder when laura yells buddy when shapiro and his staff listened to the whole 9-1-1- call, shapiro made his mind that this should become a series about true emergency calls?, what do you think?
speaking of the freddy krueger reference, the 3rd segment from Episode #107 makes a reference to the 1903 western crime/drama film "The great train robbery" because of the way the 3 men enter and the taping of the boy's mouth.
Laura was so good with the narrative description. But I hand it to her when she tried to maintain composure while talking to the dispatcher. Yeah her description of the events to the dispatcher were a bit scrambld, but I couldn't hold it against her, only being 8 and witnessing something of that nature...
feeling curious do you assume that the "Pilot" version of "Arlington" had the longer musical loop animated intro and shatner did his intro in the Dispatch Center Room which i'd nickname the SHO-DI Room?
Hi allgood have you ever seen the Turner Classic Movies special 100 years at the movies, how about making a spoof called 100 years of rescue 911 with this segment along with other classic Rescue 911 moments?
I guess they didn't have enough segments to fill up an episode, so they decided to re-use one. They might have also done that for people who missed the pilot episode.
got a question what parts of this 9-1-1- call was the inspiration for the creation for Rescue 9-1-1-, was it this entire 9-1-1- recording as shown in this segment?
CesMan83 There have been a lot of these going on in the last 20 or so years. I think a lot of these guys break in not merely to rob/steal but also to assault/torment/kill the residents. Many more of these creeps are doing it for fun.
lol I was watching C.O.P.S. the other day and as the guy who was running from the cops got out of his car he was wearing a C.O.P.S. t-shirt and the police officers said, "Oh now that's cute." "That's very funny." lol
Hi allgood the annotations could go great during this segment not at the end for example before the phone call in this segment you should've said the 9-1-1- call you are about to hear is the inspiration for rescue 9-1-1- and at the opening this was the segment that inspired 911.
She walked over to her daughter and told her that she needed to stay inside the lines when she was coloring, and she took the book and said something like "Here, let mommy fix it," and when she handed the coloring book back to her daughter, it said "Call 911". That's "911 Christina's Call" from Episode 604. BeatleMoe uploaded it a while back.
The Idea of Buddy slashing up the robber or unloading a 9 Millimeter into his head and saying, "Yeah, it's Freddy Crooger time. Bye Freddy!" Did you not see betatalk357's comment? I thought the way betatalk357 worded his or her comment was funny. Take another look.
Well, that information is necessary for the police to identify the man. It was the heat of the moment, but it was still important to ask if the girl could describe him.
The burglar was too busy fighting with her dad. I think he knew she was on the phone, because in the recording you can hear him shout something like, "I'll kill your dad!"
Laura was lucky that the burglars didn’t see her go past them or they would’ve killed her too. I bet she was scarred for quite some time, emotionally that is.
That was right before Laura said something like, "Oh my gosh he killed the guy.! wasn't it? There are two different parts of this where you hear shots.
Freddy never said that line in any of the Elm Street movies I think. The burglar was just referencing his character because Freddy was a filthy child murderer who is a favorite villian among horror fans.
It would have been better if the bad guy was dressed as Freddy Krueger with the red and green striped sweater, the hat, and the razors!!! It would have made the "Its Freddy Krueger time" line more real!!! Those bad guys are realy into A Nightmare On Elm Street!!!
That intruder is kind of funny in a way because he's got some major problems. My guess is he may have been gone off something when he kicked in the door.
