Tom you are a true firefighter. What you did and what happened to you took guts saving someone else's life. You knew it was a dangerous spot but you still went and tried to help. Glad you are alive today god bless.
Hello Kristopher! Although it has been almost 32 years since the accident, being paralyzed from the neck down we are all actually doing great! My children grew up and went into the business, my daughter works as a dispatcher and my son a career firefighter. Linda and I now enjoy our two grandchildren and I am glad that I was able to outlive the odds. Although this reenactment was not anywhere close to what happened, I would have never put myself at that much risk but they had to make it safe for the actor! I appreciate your comments. Tom Young
Piolet is to blame for being too close. Gust of wind from the chopper while the hang glider was still there. The Piolet should have stayed away until the glider was knocked off the mountain and the rescuers were in a stable position to lay down flat for the chopper to approach. The chopper casts down cable to rescuers to click them onto the harness before the stand back up to get original injured patient into the chopper. Even though it was an accident, it was the piolet's own fault for being too close, having the pillars' wind knock them over. Their is always a fault in all ACC uh dents no matter who are involved, what they were meaning to do, and have done it. There is always a fault in accidents. There is never an incident without a cause and reason. There is always a cause and reason in and to everything, and with everybody.
Did not have a collar. The original patient had the only one on the scene. The team called for one, but it never arrived. They used a bunker coat to immobilize.
Hi Michelle! I was looking through Google and came across our Rescue 911 reenactment and started reading the comments. Thank you for all of your kind words. Without Jesus Christ we would have not gotten through this tragic event. We are all doing great, after the first two years, which were terrible with a lot of pain and depression, I went back to work. Obviously, my job duties changed but he gave me a purpose and he gave my family more of a sense of a true family. Everyone has grown older and Linda and I enjoy spending time two granddaughters! The video of the original piece had more detail of a trucker rescued by Tom whom called the producers about the sad event injuring Tom Young. This video edited that out the truck rescue from original airing. Does anybody have the original available?
