Rescue from Aasgard Pass near Colchuck Lake, WA. 10-11-2022

On 10-11-2022 King County Sheriff Air Support Rescue Deputies responded to a request from ‪@chelancountysheriffsoffice9382‬ Search & Rescue to hoist an injured hiker from Aasgard Pass. The hiker had sustained a hip injury from a fall, and was unable to walk. Ground rescue would have taken many hours to get to him. Other hikers on the trail stopped to help him and waited until he was hoisted to safety.

As a student heli pilot, I’m in awe when a professional pilot holds the bird like a rock in an OGE hover. Props to the pilot. There had to be some updrafts up that sunny slope, too. Also, as someone who has to get comfortable every time I’m working at the top of an extension ladder, hats off to the rescue worker (not sure what they’re called) who gets lowered to the wild terrain, below. What a great team!

I couldn't see any people on the ground until the guy being lowered was nearly there. These folks have amazing eyesight.

Another safe and perfectly executed rescue guys! Wow that scenery is stunning, glad you took a look for us to see what it’s like , gorgeous. Not sure it’s a great idea to be hiking on your own, that guy was lucky that the others joined him. PS MR Sexy voice as always great job at the front on the left pilot seat…

That's prettymuch similar situation to what the fire fighters are dealing with at Bolt Creek. The terrain is no joke. It's not as easy as just, walking up and spraying a hose. Great job to the rescue team and all parties involved in this rescue.

So does the other hiker have to hike out on their own?

In this case, the description and in-video text suggests he was alone until a separate party happened to come along. However, based on other videos I’ve seen, even members of the same hiking party would have to hike out without the rescued victim. Seems plausible that it may be different in the case of a minor. I hope my response doesn’t prevent someone more knowledgeable from correcting/confirming this info.

I was the hiker. I was hiking by myself. She was the bystander that help with the rescue
