Millions of taxpayer dollars are spent ensuring greyhounds are safe once their racing careers end. But rescue groups say the money isn’t being spent wisely, and dogs are being unnecessarily euthanised or handed over to rehoming programs in horrific conditions.

I can't watch, too painful to me! Adopted 4 Greyhounds from Ireland and thanks God, I was able to assure them a long life, full of love, good food, freedom ( within safe areas), and comfortable big sofas! I love you: Fiona, Zoe, Mikey and Bluebell ❤❤❤❤

I had a great boy. He was not neglected. There are adoption programs, also they are great dogs. I love this breed and he came from Mexico.

Pit bull rescue groups have proven you can retrain fighting dogs and get them socialized. I've had dogs and cats I've rescued from cruel situations since I was just a a teen. They were terrified of people, noises, you name it. Getting their trust through food and eventually my love proved they weren't ruined.

Governent should step in & give back some of their profits they make from the racing industry, by giving the money that's needed in eliminating the costs associated with the welfare of these beautiful dogs.

@@HopeSisters12 Rescued from what? What did you see happened yourself? Or are you ASSuming like so many uneducated do? I will not mind my own business when it comes to putting the truth out about greyhounds. Too many lies for too long. Time to get the truth out there. If you never saw abuse or neglect yourself and didn't report it, then you are just posting nothing but lies. Just what have you done? Do tell.

if these dogs are insured, then the operations are free or cheaper right?

Such one sided views. Go speak to trainers and owners that race greyhounds.. they have a better life style than some people! For example go n watch greyhound racing South Australia, a video was uploaded in December. These dogs are loved and well cared for. As someone who works within the GRSA, it's disappointing to see the industry being displayed like this.

I disagree. We have been fostering greyhounds for nearly 30 years. Most of them come to us traumatised, starving with all their ribs and back pins poking out. You have been fortunate to not see the horrific side of this awful industry. Many of them have scars and fur missing from their back thighs from sleeping on concrete. Most of them have kennel coat from being out in the cold every night. Just horrible.

@@wright85 What kennel do you get your greyhounds from? And why haven't you reported this neglect? That makes you an abuser too. I know it's not from any kennels in the USA. Greyhounds get the best love and care. They have to be 100% healthy to race or they are not allowed to race so neglecting them or abusing them just doesn't happen. They are all fed good balanced meals twice a day with snacks in between so they are never underweight. They never sleep on concrete floors. So what kennel did you see this neglect?

Don’t know about SA but we recently adopted a 5 yo greyhound that had 109 starts all of which she ran half blind and totally untreated. She now has to have 6 monthly checks and eye drops twice a day for the rest of her life. This is in WA. I don’t consider that loving treatment. Why would I believe owners and trainers? They have a vested interest. The rescue group I got my hound from were recently offered some retired greyhounds but had to say no to some because they were in such poor physical condition.

Greyhound racing is in total decline around the world and Australia will catch up. This most ancient breed of dogs will continue with the same regal distinction they've held for 8,000 years. While we wait for that day, let's learn what we can from those in the industry who do have deep and caring, if unsentimental, knowledge of greyhounds. We will see the day that people choose an ethically sourced, low maintenance and utterly adorable hound to complete their home, leaving both dog racing AND puppy factories in the dim, dark past.

I have a rescue Greyhound. She is my second. Sometimes it's more about the $$$ than rescuing the dogs! Some groups are just as nasty, as those that raced the poor dogs!

Greyhounds in the USA are treated like royalty. They are loved and spoiled by their handlers. The owners do treat any injuries which are very rare. They all get adopted when their career is over. Greyhounds have wonderful lives from the time they are born until they are retired, never rescued. They do not spend their whole life in a cage. That is so ridiculous. They are out of their crates the majority of the day, getting exercised, walked, playtime and potty time. This is a one-sided video. Go to the source to find the truth.
