Another thing you could try is the mm on your ruler. It’s so much easier using decimals rather than fractions when dividing into sections to set your signature lines. ❤❤❤
Our house has been around since the 80s. That’s the 1880s, it made me laugh when you said your house is old. ❤❤❤. Good luck with the contractors, similar problems in the UK
No matter how many times I’ve watched you dear Gayle, put together covers and signatures I absolutely always learn something new. Thank you for sharing my friend 💖💖💖
I absolutely love the enormity of this project ❣️ I am trying to see if I might have a similar book around that I can try it myself. I laughed when you said you lived in an older house, built in the 70's. I am living in an old brick farmhouse built in 1891😂 The retreat sounded like it was a happy getaway, that was very productive. Hope your construction moves along steadily, can't wait to see the deck! Have a lovely day! Hugs 🤗
Talk about synchronicity ! Was asked to rebind an old old book yesterday now I know how. Thank you 🙏 LOVED LOVED The Accountant, watched it few times … he’s Ben Affleck’s just great.
Good morning, Gayle! Anyone tell you that you’re amazing lately? What an awesome book cover and you’re bringing her back to life. I have a Webster Unabridged Dictionary that I use to flatten paper after coffee/tea dying. It’s heavy! 🤗💕🦋
Hi Gayle !! Awesome video of the Websters Dictionary cover cleaning. It seems like a crime to destroy the ANTIQUE DICTIONARYS but it will end up sooooooooo lovely. U will do a GREAT job of the final journal and giving it ‘A NEW LIFE’ like u said. Keep up the good work. U are one of my daily entertainment gals. ♥️♥️ Darlene…. 🇨🇦
Hi Gayle!!!! Great video thank you! I have a book from 1909 of all music pages. I think im going to have to use tyvack paper and tape because the spine is hanging on with tape. i took the pages out cause they were falling out putting more stress on the spine. Wish me luck!!! I ordered some of the kraft tec to use also. Its called: HEART SONGS Melodies of Days Gone By. 💜
Hi Gayle I still love watching your videos. But honestly, I don't watch them every day anymore. I prefer to do Making a Journal only if I don't know something well I come to see you. Then you do something and then I think oooo I'm going to look that up. And now I was working on a Happy Mail journal. Here I also found a nice old book and had to repair the spine a bit and then you come up with a video. Great, so I'm going to watch your videos first to make sure I don't forget anything. Thank you so much for this good explanation. And of course a nice day and happy crafting.
My favourite ruler when I was sign painting was a little 6” purple ruler that I affectionately called my “tich” stick, which is what I called the 16th’s of an inch, your 3 lines - which is perfect 💓!
Hello Gayle. I can already see this is going to be such an interesting project to watch you create. Love, love that old cover. I don't remember you ever making a journal with so many signatures. I'm intrigued as to what you will add, what style will you go with. Masculine with bourbon and cigars or feminine with lavender and lace?
Ohhh I’m am sooo happy to see you making this bad girl! I have had a dictionary that looks just like this one and wasn’t sure how to revive it. I am so inspired and learned quite a few things to help my journey with my dictionary cover. Thank you so much for sharing this project I just love it!
Hi Gayle, if you could use Timmy’s ruler it would be a lot easier to measure out your lines. The ruler has a zero in the middle and goes higher in numbers on each side. It’s a God send!!! 🥰💕♥️💐🌸🌹🌷
Hi! I’m glad I found your channel! You sound like me! I cannot get any contractor here to do a remodel in my kitchen & bathroom. 4 ppl stood us up. Happy crafting.❤
I wrote my previous comment only halfway through the video before I saw that you already covered up the Tyvek. It would not let me edit my message so that's why this is a second one. Carry on Mistress of journals❤
Hi Gayle. A layer of fabric or muslin could have protected the spine from the twine rubbing on it and you wouldn't be so likely to see it through the holes. So glad to see you saving this beautiful old book!
Wow how cool that you were able to save the bumps on the spine. Thank you for showing that. I have a funny for you. I was watching your video and you told us Mike was mowing. After a bit Jeff came in and was listening to you also while being on the phone and things were moving along. All of a sudden I heard a mower that sounded like it was outside. I paused the video and said I hear a lawnmower. Why, no one is here but us. He laughed and pointed at the tv. And then it dawned on me oh yeah Mike is mowing there. Had a good laugh at me😂!
I've been told by many people that putting shavings of a bar of Irish Spring soap in your flower beds will keep deer away. I didn't get a chance to try it before I moved away from my home where I had a tulip bed.
Great job!! This one is going to be huge, but oh what fun it will be to decorate. Wonderful idea to restore that old dictionary. Thanks so much for sharing.
Hi Gayle, this is so great! What a cover and junk journal this will be. I just love the old ones and your method is so educational for me. I can't wait to try this someday. Thanks so much for all you do and all of the knowledge you impart, just love you and your videos. Love and hugs, Beverly take care and God bless you hun!
As far as measuring for signatures I know a lot of people say the Tim Holtz centering ruler makes it so much easier and I can see why it would because of the zero in the center. I might buy one. I usually just take a piece of paper, make it the size of my spine and then fold it in half long ways, fold it in half again, fold it in half again, however many times it takes to make the correct number of lines and then I mark where the folds are, it’s really easy that way. Another way is sometimes I just use centimeters for measuring things, you don’t have to understand them, the lines are just closer together so it’s easier to find the right marks but normally I do the paper folding. Just some ideas I tried over the years that may help people.
Good morning Gayle! This is going to be great. What a beautiful old dictionary. We’re all going to run to our used bookstore to find one.❤ 7 signatures. 😁👏🏼👍🏼💜🌞
Good morning Gayle, looks like your enjoying doing the cover! I love the movie The Accountant, awesome movie! Thanks again for sharing & I hope you have a wonderful day!🤗💜💕🌻🌻
Good morning Gayle...Hi & Hugs my friend!! That is a beautiful old journal cover. And I love how you used the twine to put the ridges back in. This will be fun watching this journal come together!! Have an awesome day...💜
Good Morning, Gayle. Thank you so much for doing this one on camera. I have an old Webster's Dictionary that was my dad's that I would love to do this to. It's not as wide as yours but could probably do 3 or 4 signatures in it. If you don't have aby Kraftex is there any other recommendation that you might have of something you could use instead? Can't wait to see this one finished. 7 signatures will be amazing. Something this wide would make a great correspondence journal. You could get a lot of cards and letters in it, for sure. Hope you have a wonderful day.
Morning Robin! If you don’t have KraftTex, another alternative would be a thin chipboard (like on the back of a tablet). It might not be as flexible, but it would work to strengthen the spine. 👍❤
This was fun, I was finishing off my travel themed jj while watching/listening. Loved the movie The Accountant as well, watched not too long ago. Oh, and in your last video about your retreat it tickled me pink when you mentioned buying yourself flared jeans - I got a pair of white ones for my Birthday and splurged and bought myself a pair of blue jean ones and they arrived the same day I watched your retreat video....unbeknownst to you, you are now my bell-bottom-buddy🤣🤣💙💙
Gayle this is Pat from Sn Diego. I flew into Helena 2 weeks ago tonight and stayed w friends who live just outside of Boulder. We spend Saturday in Yellowstone, so beautiful. Lots of snow around.
Good morning Gayle. Can’t wait to see this come together. I much have missed what paper digital you used. I’ll go back a few videos and look. Usually I go get them when I seen you work with then 🤔
May I ask you where you got the cradle your using? I want a small one like that. Enjoyed the chatter and watching you bring back life to an old dictionary! ❤
I do have a question. Why 7 signature verses say 5 fatter signatures? Just wondering i am new to the junk journal world and have only made single signatures sthus far😁 and by the way I just love your videos and style! Thank you for all you do ❤
I’m in love with this journal already! Great job of showing how to keep the integrity of the cover. SEVEN!! signatures. WOW!!!! A true 3-R project; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Can’t wait to see the journey of this one! Have a blessed day!
Fabulous, Gayle. I love watching you doing this type of thing. It reminds me that I have stuff I need to be using like Kraft-Tex; definitely a forgotten friend for me! 😂
The twine for the bumpies is a great idea! I know you don't do “speaking for” journals, but boy would I love this one to be spoken for. For me! 😊 I think in my next life I will return as a big chunky old dictionary and sit on a shelf in a gorgeous library together with a bunch of other old books around me ❤❤❤
Love this Gale! I have a large book that’s 13 1/2” tall and 9 1/2” wide that I want to repurpose! I got it from the second hand store for $2 as it had some damage! Can’t wait to start working on it now that I see you doing this one! ❤️📕🇨🇦
@@gayleagostinelli_ct😂 that’s funny! Hope y’all enjoyed it. Like you mentioned for y’all, that was one that had enough action for my husband and was still interesting enough to keep my attention as well.
The dictionary is going to be an amazing journal. You make sewing in the signatures look so easy. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the journal develops.
Fantastic! I loved this. It was just so interesting to watch. I like the idea of using so many signatures. I can't wait to see what happens next and what happens inside. Thank you .. I've lost my "hands-on-crafting" mojo a bit lately, and this has brought back that tingle of excitement inside me. Inspired as always. Thank you Gayle, Big Hugs ❤❤
Hi Gayle, I think I saw a video about book binding where for large (thick-spined) books it's important to leave a gap between the inside signature spine and the outside spine of the cover. This allows the book to flex better with opening and closing, And also I think makes a difference for the book to lie flat while open. I'm trying to remember. There's a name for that kind of spine binding but I've forgotten what it's called. Of course I'm not going washi police on you, but I thought you might want to know about that. Cheers! 💓
