Many of you will wish you could have your first car back, and through a weird twist of fate, Mike Fernie is getting that opportunity. Having sold his first car, a Rover 25, back when he was a teenager, he has stumbled upon that very car in a very sorry state. Time to get it back to the workshop and set about making it a minter!

My first car was also a Rover 25. It was my Grandads car, then my mother's, and then mine. I loved the thing, but the clutch went on mine and a mix of no money and poor mental health caused it to sit for years on my driveway. I remember going to see some mates in the Midlands and just telling my mum to get rid of it as I didn't have the heart! I really wish I still had it. Glad you're getting to restore your first car! Going to be great to see it get sorted out.

As others have said, Rover only liked to make 1 version of a part, so they added a stop in the throttle to make a new version of the 1.4, the 84bhp 1.4. The 1.4 DOHC 16v K series engine was always 105bhp. On the 1.8 VVC, there was a 48mm plastic throttle body, which did stick sometimes, so I replaced the MG F's plastic TB with the all alloy 52mm TB from the Trophy and this apparently raised bhp from 145 to 160bhp! There is nothing like the memories of you first proper car! I'd love to find my old Rover 220 coupe Turbo! Y877 YEY

My first car was a 2003 Renault Clio known as Bubba, nothing fancy but I still have it, it was still a daily driver up until last year when I got a mini. People keep telling me to get rid but I have restoration plans for it because I know if I get rid I’ll forever regret it since I expect if it were traded in for anything they’d just scrap it. Love seeing older cars getting restored, seems too easy nowadays for people to just keep getting new cars

You can certainly fit a full power throttle body with the original ECU, this was an extremely common mod and will take it from 83bhp to 102bhp. It's no different to driving the full power engine but never opening the throttle fully, you don't need a different ECU map to do that! FWIW the reason it was done was to lower the insurance group on the 25.

Ah yes, the precious memories of your first car. Mine was a Mk5 Fiesta 1.4 Zetec. I went for the 1.4 as most bought the 1.25 but wanted those extra couple of poinies. Made zero difference! I remember driving around on the first night blinding on coming drivers as I'd accidentally knocked on the full beam. Still a Ford man all these years later.

I'd love to see this car back on the road, my brother had a final year "05 Rover 25 2.0 Diesel. It had a 1 of 1 paintcode on it as it was one of the final ones to come out the factory, a slightly lighter shade of the Solar Red. The injectors went on it but that car was the one I remember the most. If I have the chance to find that car, I'll definitely take it up. Can't wait to see more videos on this!

You CAN just fit the fully opening throttle or even better, the 52mm throttle body and it will learn to adjust the fuelling, so absolutely go for it! You have to fit the throttle cable from a fully opening throttle body as well though.

My first car was a Renault 10 but I destroyed the gearbox before I got chance to legally drive it 😂. Very common changing throttle body’s upgrade on 1.4’s to boost power no re- map needed it just starves the engine of air I believe the restriction was for insurance purposes for younger drivers.
