I'm a lifelong resident of St. Louis and avid supporter of preserving our history. I found you through Kaleb's channel and look forward to joining you on your journey. My wife (grew up just blocks from Kaleb's house) and kids have lived 40 years in a 1924 craftsman converted 2 family flat in Princeton Heights. We've made mistakes and been successful in our caring for our home. Seeing your care with the medallions gives me hope that you will be successful in your approach to renovating your home.

The biggest concern is the weight. While there are PLENTY of ways to make it as secure as possible, if ANYTHING were to knock it loose, not only would we lose a historic piece of the house, it could also injure someone. Ultimately, the deciding factor came down to seeing the incredible details and realizing that the best way for people to TRULY appreciate the craftmanship was to hang them on the walls in a place where everyone who visits can truly appreciate it. We will 3D scan these and then create lighter replicas to go on the ceilings, and hang the originals where everyone can enjoy them.

My strongest suggestion: use the "unfolding a cake" technique. When you are trying to get a cake out of a warm pan an onto a cooling rack, you turn the cake upside down (the medallions are already upside down) then cover the cake pan with the cooling rack. Pick up the cake and cooling rack together as a single unit, and flip it over. You can make the "work cradle/turn stand" for the medallion, place it on top and secure it around the edges, then flip the whole thing as a unit. (I'm late to the party, so you probably already thought of that, but I love what you're doing and can't resist joining in the fun). Keep up the good work!

Unfortunately before we got the place, it had been abandoned and in such disrepair that there was SO little that was salvageable with all the rotting and water damage and honestly YEARS of neglect. It hurt us just as much to see something with such history and craftsmanship left in shambles. While we could never do it the justice of an 1879 master craftsman, we are doing our best to respect where it came from while also making it livable for the new family. One where new memories can be made and the architecture can be admired every single day by a new generation. Thank you for your feedback, and we hope that you continue to join us as we build a new home instead of letting a neglected one collapse to crumbles!
