Great presentation; thank you Gregory Kontos and the Hellenic Genealogy Conference's organizers. I intend to use the info (with prayers for plenty of good luck) to trace my roots :)

Bravo Gregory... Very helpful, and I will be using this information going forward. My name is Scott Condes from Indianapolis, IN and my Popou was Dimitrios Sotiriou Kontos originally of Niata. He and my Yia Yia Maria Katsavis immigrated and lived in Chicago or NW Indiana. I'm sure we are related going back a few generations.

Any suggestions for searching for records of Greek ancestors who lived in Lesbos, mostly under Turkish occupation??? Time period 1840's-1928??? Would they be considered Greek citizens or Turkish if born under Turkish occupation?

Have you found him in US records? They will give you his birthplace and original village of origin, which is what you need to find information in Greece.
