What is the study of lead in runoff water? - Characterization for the reconstruction of the roof of Notre-Dame de Paris
Following the fire that struck Notre-Dame de Paris on April 15, 2019, the public institution Rebuilding Notre-Dame de Paris @rebatirnotredamedeparis launched a study with Laboratoire Eau, Environnement et Systèmes Urbains (LEESU) to better characterize and predict lead emissions in runoff water, the material used to identically reproduce the cathedral's roof.
For this latest episode of "Un mois, un Labo", Leesu researcher Marie-Christine Gromaire takes us to the roofs of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. She tells us about the experiments she and her team have carried out, and how their research has led to the development of support measures for the sustainable management of run-off and, more generally, to a better assessment of the environmental impact of the roofs of historic monuments covered totally or partially in lead, most of which are of medieval origin.
