Hi everyone, it's Dana. Just a reminder I'll be filling in this week for the Thursday episode. So if you're sending in questions, I'll be answering. Questionforbeau @ gmail
I'm sad to see the protection of the wolves going back to the States. They, as well as all animals, have an important part in our ecosystem, yet man doesn't respect nature's ideas.
Was that the bit about being part of the universe? I didn't recognize it, but it reminded me of Desiderata, which was a poem or piece of prose written by Tom Ehrmann, and performed with beautiful background music and vocals back in the early 70s or so.
The time will come when absolutely everything that is in a museum will be behind glass (or plexiglass. The sign "do not touch" will mean nothing to someone who wants to touch. Thanks, Dana, for another good show. I like that you are contextualizing just a bit and/or are telling people where to go to find out more (except for Fukushima - I bet that went over a bunch of people's heads).
Thanks Dana! Ackerly, Texas, had a magnitude earthquake of 5.1 (yesterday evening) on 16th of September at 7:49 pm...felt in the Concho Valley. Remember which candidate said, "Drill, baby drill," with a thumbs up jesture. 💙🤝💙✊💙 From Texas.
Thank you for the commentary. The President can ban fracking on Federal lands as part of an executive order. Drilling on federal land accounts for about 5% of US drilling.
Saber teeth have evolved independently in vertebrates over and over. If a category of creature has teeth, at some point a species will develop sabers. Did you know there are several species of deer alive today with saber teeth? You should google the muntjac deer, as they are my favorite saber toothed animal. Also, take a look at Thylacosmilus. They make Smilodon (saber toothed cats) look like they are still growing their baby teeth 😊
Thanks for the great information! I also appreciate the greater pause between subjects. It works really well and I find it easier to be ready for the change. Have a great evening!
I'm not sure if anyone else has said this and I missed it, but I can't believe it has taken me this long to realize Dana's name may have been chosen as a nod to Data.
@@scottsammons7747 It's true that local people will do a better job but I think there needs to be country wide laws about what you can't do - or just a blanket ''leave them alone and let nature take its course instead of men with guns'' type of thing.
Alaska is seeing the typical uptick in private plane crashes, as the weather changes, and pilots make errors in weight estimating on loads to close out their season. Be careful with your planning.
Would you consider posting the sources for the things you go over? I love getting to share the topics with family and friends and having sources quickly available would make that easy. If not I definitely get its extra work and I can keep on finding sources on my own. Love the show and keep up the good work!!!
Well I found this, late cuz my phone. But worth it! Thankyou Dana. Some of these are, um, retrospectively kind of funny. An 8 ' sabertoothed, um, salmon! 😊👍🏼🌊💙💙💙🌊🥰✌🏼
Wait, chocolate is at risk?! Hershey, Mars & Nestlé have to get on protected zones for cocoa beans, or billions of people will be getting really cranky 😠
@angelikalindenau943 I had to read that twice, then burst out laughing. Dark speed indeed 😅 (And agree, there are definitely some good ones from more ethical sources out there)
I am super sad about the National government handing over the decision of wolves to the states - super unhelpful and won't help the wolf at all. Grrr... but thank you for the science news!
Always a pleasure, Dana. Is hot bunking still a thing on subs? I would assume so, but maybe things have changed. Anybody know? I have family members who have served across the branches (sans Space Force) but the biggest percentage are former Navy. One served the biggest percentage of his time on a sub in the 80s, and one did a rotation in the 70s. Come to think of it, I have no clue WHY the latter would have done a rotation on one. 🤔
I love this segment, and I want to thank the team for their service to we viewers. I have a suggestion: would it be possible (and maybe less work for the team?) to cover slightly fewer stories but go a little more in-depth on each one, beyond the headlines. I realize we can all google to get more information, but I'd love to hear maybe 3-4 sentences on each story (say, a shortish paragraph). Right now it seems like 1-2 sentences on each. The coverage might be less broad but more informative.
Oh goody, state regulation on wolves. What could go wrong? (Heavy sarcasm from someone living in Montana). Edit: Also, did we not learn our lesson about this? Back in '22?
I recall hearing that there was no such thing as "the sea people" and that it was usually the ancient Greeks out on raids. Will need to double check the OSP youtube catalog to make sure.
Thanks. I do have two comments, sorry that 8' salmon isn't cute. Although, the saber tooth part does peak my interest The other is a great byline to the fossils dug up under an American HS caused excitement because they originally thought they had discovered the original cafeteria menu. Sadly, they were wrong, instead 8' saber tooth salmon That's my bad joke, y'all welcome to use it
