Schlage has done a great job at simplifying how to reset their latest locks including the Schlage Encode BE489. If you've bought a house with a Schlage Encode or suspect your codes have been compromised follow this factory reset procedure to get your lock back in the factory sent settings.

I'm having trouble with the Encode only lasting a few months on a beachfront property. I think it has to do with the humidity. Is there a way to stop moisture from entering under the keypad?

I'm in AZ. I don't have a clue about humidity. 😂. It's touted as weather proof exterior side from Schlage. Call their customer support, see if they have any suggestions. 1 (888) 805-9837

Actually there’s an issue with some encodes eating batteries. Contact Schlage they will ship a replacement!

Any options for me if I don't have the user codes? The sticker you show in the video (on the back of the battery chamber) is not on my lock, as yours shows here. I don't have one at all. I only have a very small white label with a barcode and a letter B, followed by a 6 digit number. (B###-###) Anything I can do to obtain a Code A and a Code B as presented in the video?

if I do setup at home and send it to be installed (on vacation home), how will it calibrate to the door (as left or right)? seems this is a 1-shot action forcing install before wifi setup. ideas?

I have a problem with my lock it doesn't turn the deadbolt when I have it set up normally I even set it up off the door and it still wasn't working. However I did notice it was able to move the deadbolt when I have the battery piece on upside down. Any thoughts on how I can fix it or should i return it

Why did my default user codes stop working? The lock function on the keypad works, but I can’t unlock it with the default user codes. If I do a factory reset, will I have to delete it from the app and add it back again?

Hi, I have the exact same lock but when I did the reset procedure the red light on the front stays on and it beeps 3 times. Tried the 2nd code as well and the lock will do the same. We just bought this house built in April of 2021. Changed the batteries and still no deal.

@@samhaslam4660 Actually I changed the batteries again but using the industrial batteries from my work place, and for some reason it started working again. I guess you can't use cheapo batteries with this lock

Got confused. I have the previous users access code but that’s all I have. You are saying that the previous user should also have two other codes. Besides, their access code that I need to use?, That person is gone and all I have is the access code. Does that mean I need to buy a new lock? Thanks

See if the sticker is on the inside of the lock with the original codes. Then just reset it and use the original codes or change them after.

My Encode does not power on. I replaced the batteries, tried resetting it as well - I can only lock / unlock it manually. Not really sure what happened.

Schlage has a 3-year warranty. If it's less than 3-years old, give them a call.

This lock is defective, per se. I am having similar issues and they are refusing to repair them. There are other videos regarding Schlage locks not working after cold weather. Let me know if others are having issues. I think the electronics are breaking after the first winter/summer for a large group of the locks owned where the weather changes.

@@toughfox When the lock is connected to the app, the default codes are disabled automatically. If you are not using the app, enter programming mode. Enter one of the codes to delete. Hit the "X" button. Enter the code to delete again. Hit the check mark button.

Terrible lock, every few months it will not let me add or delete any codes unless it's reset on site. Property is in Florida I live in Illinois. I'm getting rid of this thing. I was searching for possible ways to reset remotely and nothing unless I'm present agh

Schlage has the longest warranty at two years. If it's younger that, call them for a replacement. Unfortunately, none of the smart locks I am aware of allow for remote resetting.

This lock is very annoying for remote landlords! It cannot be setup for Wi-Fi UNLESS it can connect immediately! Stupid engineers! All of my companies IoT can be configured and it does not force a reject if that network is not available. And it ERASES all PIN codes when it is configured so I can't setup codes, ship it and ask my technician to setup wi-fi! I just don't get WHY anyone suggests this for rental property - it is almost worthless...

That's good feedback! We've never tried to set one up remotely, and then connect to a Wi-Fi onsite.
