The friendly waitress The carefree cop The aging security gaurd The standoffish plumber The introvert student The level headed doctor The snide reporter The cowardly subway attendant A breath of fresh air from the overqualified survivors usually focused on in the series.
Outbreak File 2 was the first RE game I ever played. It was interesting because they weren’t ex military badasses like Chris and Jill, they were just normal people in the wrong place at the wrong time and I was entering the horror with them.
It wasn't until I read this I realized how many protags are actual agents. Like BSAA, STARs, etc Leon was just a cop (at first, at least), Ethan is just a systems engineer, and...those are pretty much all for the main series games. Its a whole lotta alphabet boys beyond that.
Outbreak is the most down-to-earth story RE ever had. Just bunches of regular people try to survive the apocalypse and they might as well die trying. The song captures every mission perfectly. At the start, they didn't even realize what's about to happen, what's lurking underneath them until it's too late. They faced the doom and survived which gives them hope but as they proceed, they see how devastating the whole situation is and they are not likely to make it. They are either keep fighting hopelessly or meet a tragic end...
You said it, nothing of looking cool- special heroes taking off Huge B.O.Ws, just normal people who wants to survive only having their habilities according to they professions.
The entire resident evil series (music included) also goes to show that nothing goes to plan when humanity’s idiots decide trying to play god is a good idea
*THE* theme of Resident Evil in my opinion. From the chaos in Spencer Mansion, to the desolation of Raccoon City and even the Las Plagas. This theme just fits it all.
@@AlmightyPolarBear God I've been wanting a remaster or a new entry also. no other game I played got the survivor's working to escape a disaster down like these games. If anything I'd like to see a fan game at the very least, people who share our enthusiasm for outbreak
When I saw the intro back in the day it totally blew my mind. I already played the first three games on the PlayStation, but then I got the PS2, boot this game and wow.
@@silverloto6773 Yeah. It's a shame the game hasn't aged well now but, I still enjoy the intro. The RE2 reboot was the last one I played. Haven't played the recent ones but, have watched RU-vidr Mk: Fire and ice play bio hazard and village. It's not the same lately man.
Yeah. The only RE themes that match the sadness conveyed here are Pray (RE5), Sorrow (RE4), The End of Raccoon City (R3MAKE), Sad but true (RE5) and Yearning for Shadows (VILLAGE). Just love them all
What a beautiful, tragic yet moving piece. Foreboding and crippling conflict, you can hear emotional damage in its presentation and delivery in the context of this melody. Impeccable 👌🏼 ❤️
This game was ahead of it’s time. I brought it in the U.K. so couldn’t play online. The series should 100% try another co-op online game now that the internet actually works.
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t even an online game. Me and my bro played it when we were kids, even tho it was displayed to require internet I don’t remember it actually being one.
I played online all the time. I remember it not having any type of voice chat. Just voice commands installed in each character. So it made playing with someone extremely difficult. Especially going into a elevator not knowing what floor your teammate was going to. I remember shooting once or twice to indicate what floor I was going to lol
@@tash9809 it required internet only for the online portion of multiplayer. I remember playing it online so much, it was such a good game with others, as it really did require cooperation at the hardest difficulties.
Cuando jugué este juego y escuché la canción de verdad me dio miedo jajajaja, recuerdo esa sensación de terror que me envolvía al jugarlo, sin duda un tema muy expresivo.
I finally got my hands on the old RE games and I started Outbreak for the first time the other night. This theme hooked me right away. It's so beautiful and yet perfectly encapsulates the horror of the situation. Perfect all around
Every time I hear this track, it reminds me how much care and detail Capcom put into these games. Its really sad that it never got the attention it deserved at the time.
Amazing theme. The first "Outbreak" game was what got me into the "Resident Evil" franchise full time. Still a real shame we never got another "Outbreak" game, it'd be awesome if Capcom stop remaking the games after 3 and focus on a new "Outbreak" game. But oh well, at least we'll always have the duology.
Its a shame the franchise died after RE4.. Action RE5 and 6 are just silly. RE7 is even more silly it being a silly walking simulator with linear scripts that are far too obvious.
This game deserves to be revisited with today's technology updates and fixes from the mishaps the original had. I think what made it struggle is the painful loading times and the very limited communications. With ps5 power, the loading times are now a thing in the past and as for communication, now a whole lot more emotes can be added. As for mics, I know many will play without using it. Mainly friends will use party chat but that's up to the players.
This track lingers in my mind, and today I realized that it's very Bernard Herrmann-inspired. If anyone wants more of this, you should check out Herrmann's soundtrack to "Vertigo". Especially the track "Prelude and Rooftop", IMO.
That would be Mitsuhiko Takano. He's only credited for 3 tracks on the Outbreak OST, and this isn't one of them. The main theme is by Akihiko Matsumoto - he worked on Black Jack and Summer Wars, among others.
A couple of years ago I discovered a film called 'The Legend of Goemon', and the music in that film was phenomenal. I didn't know until recently that the music for that film was the same guy that wrote this! Truly an unknown genius!
RE 4 ruined everything, RE 5-6 even more, RE 7-8 are good but they are not RE too! Revelations was good but they are not RE too! Umbrella corps, opeation raccon city? C'MON, and and the CGI movies? Anderson movies? Huh what aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa............................... Everything before RE 4 appeared was the best time of RE and the era of gaming.
@@SuperSoylaleche You wrong, the concept of 'IP holders' and 'franchise evolution' is something that doesn't fit wel with die hard fans who want only tank controls and fixed camera. I don't mind though, Capcom realise that as they continue to make great games.
@@White927 To be honest Resident evil 4 was not that bad it still kept the fear factor and resources kinda scarce depending if you were managing carefully while you are venturing to the unknowns. As for Resident evil 5 and 6 are the moment that the franchise started to fall out the window in my opinion since they started cramming in way too many action moments which removes the helplessness and a Ai partner system and it goes the same for the later franchise. It is another reason I do not have to much high hopes for the next Resident evil game Capcom makes these days for example this may not be canon but RE: Verse which now it feels like Capcom is trying to compete with other company's such as Call of duty PVP modes or so forth in a not good direction...
This song is impressive and super melancholic; transports me to Racoon once again. How underrated this mini saga is and how good this theme continues to be.
i disagree. This song is melancholic and very intriguing. The same notes go in various variations, giving perspective of something in movement, something intensifying. This fits perfect for the infection subject of an outbreak, since contagion goes spreading even further. In case of Bakers, contagion wasn't spreading, since Eveline is a subject that wants attention, and stay put with her "family". She is not the outbreak type of subject. As the arquives says, she was created for war, to be thrown on the enemy lines to control the enemy. The feeling of movement can be nicely shown too on Elgar concerto (link below). Elgar starts very emotional and has a nice concept of movement on this music till 3:10. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SZTi1Wz8b6I.html&ab_channel=HenriVieuxtemps
Man this game needs a remake more than RE4 ...im excited for re4 remake, but imagine a outbreak remake featuring both games with way better online than what we had on ps2
I just hope if Capcom remake this game that they put in the same amount of effort as they did into the Resident Evil 4 remake. A remake of this game could be ground breaking.
@@kittenchamp4963 lmao what? Thats the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The only difference between then and now is that now composers are able to use recordings of real instruments as well as digital ones. The idea that composers aren't a thing anymore is a jaw droppingly ignorant statement.
This is equal parts tragedy, hopelessness, hope and mystery in one tune, especially towards the end. Which I suppose represents the Raccoon City Incident well. A tragedy where most survivors were hopeless and likely barricaded in their homes or wherever was safe. Other survivors (like the J’s Bar eight) having the hope to make it through and ultimately uncovering some of the mystery as to what caused the disaster. I truly hope they remake Outbreak. Take all the scenarios from both entries and turn it into a cohesive story. When we play 2 and 3, we’re already well into the outbreak and most are dead or undead, whereas this game shows a more gradual path to Raccoon City becoming the city of the dead it was doomed to be. It felt alive, especially in the Outbreak, Hellfire and Wild Things scenarios where the police, fire department and army were working to save a city not quite lost.
You can feel the sorrow in this. The despair at knowing what the characters don't. We know what's to come. Not just the fall of Raccoon City. But everything that comes after, too...
This is one of the mighty 3! The 3 games that i enjoyed the most. EverQuest Online Adventures, Socom 2, and Outbreak files 1 and 2! (Technically Outbreak should have been 1 game, it was later split into 3 files, the 3rd going unreleased) I got my start with Atari 2600 and the PS2 online era was PEAK gaming for me. It was all downhill from there... well... aside from Left 4 Dead of course.
RE Outbreak theme and 28 Days Later Theme is the best and top zombie theme.... i've played and watching a lot zombie apocalypse theme but there's no one top this 2
“Those 8-bit games take me back to when things were much simpler, more…. safe. But after what’s happened with this game, I don’t have those feelings anymore.” -MoBrosStudios (NES Godzilla Creepypasta)
this theme, serenity, re3 save theme... capcom was the king of moody music and atmosphere. today all they can produce well is shiny graphics and only very recently decent gameplay, but they lack in the other departments that truly made re what it was...
I have said this 100 times we need an outbreak on Modern consoles as we most of us never dis the online I guess I know it's still around thanks to biohazard on PC for Outbreak is it still running
