Resident Evil Revelations 2: RE Retrospective 

My favorite revelation is that Barry is the dad-est dad that ever dad-ed. Reliving the days of his one gloriously bad Jill sandwich joke that he’s so gosh darn proud of that you’re gonna hear it forever.

Since finding your channel a week ago, I have watched every one of these videos..and even went and bought some RE games for a replay.

Revelations 1 & 2 might not be as important now that we have RE7 and the new RE2, but it's were the return to form slowly began. Rev 1 & 2 came at a bleak time in the franchise when all I had was 5 and 6 and they really weren't cutting it for me. That's why I regard the Revelations games highly despite their flaws. I watched your original reviews of these two games initially but I'm glad you revisited them as part of this retrospective. Solid work as always.

As soon as Barry said "I have this!" Back when I first played the game I almost cried with happiness. It was one of the most badass moments in the entire franchise.

We have to give credit to Capcom for making Barry's comeback with his awesome cheesy lines from RE1. WHO IS THE MASTER OF UNLOCKING NOW

Revelations 2 was better than the first one. Fight me.

I really hope they expand on the raid mode even more in the future. Imagine a raid mode with every single RE character, and locations from every game.

This was my personal RE7. I really enjoyed this game and hope this is what Resident Evil continues to be more like than what 7 is. Loved the location, monsters, and gameplay. It wasn't perfect. Didn't like the episodic style (which is hopefully in the past now) and player 2 being unable to fight was a bit annoying compared to how fun 6 was. But I love Rev 2 way more than 7. Edit: To be clear I say it's my PERSONAL RE7 because I didn't play this game until after I played 7. Dug it as a sequel way more.

Rev2 has one of the best typical RE endings: Chopper, rocket launcher, slow-motion bullet, cheesy one-liner, ... that's my RE :') I also enjoyed it more than 7.

Actually, Alex Wesker was mentioned in the Lost in Nightmares in Spenser's memoirs as the last of the Wesker children. She was looking for a way to make Spenser immortal on some island until she betrayed him and vanished with all the data and test subjects. Although I did not really like the whole "Wesker Children" shit, it was cool to see this story arc unfold in Rev 2, and Alex's motivation was pretty good, unlike her looney brother from Resi 5. Another fun fact is that english localisation made it a slightly different game. In the japanese version, there were no hints about Claire's affection for Niel: she just respected him, that's all. Also, the Barry jokes were absent. But I actually liked these changes. It gave Claire a little depth, and Barry's jokes gave a HOLE lot of fanservice to us. Storywise, Rev 2 is one of the strongest in the series. Gameplay was fun too. Popping zombies' heads with Barry was especially delightful. And I'm glad you noticed weapons' sound effects. Last time they were good in Resi 3. Now I'd like a sequel to it to find out what's gonna happen to Natalia, since it's clear that Alex has crept her way inside her consciousness. Are there any Resi games left for you to cover?)

Revelaitons 2 was a surprisingly solid game. The only thing that was bugging me was Moira's incessant swearing. Like, damn girl ought to get her mouth washed with soap.

Raid mode is where it's at.

Rev 2 is a pretty good game on its own. Imo this game makes rev1 look like a comedy skit cuz that game felt too goofy for me. Raid mode was also so addictive in this game and far better than any mercenaries mode in the series.

Revelations 2 is a mirror of Capcom's peak internal struggles and transformations (2012 and 2015). It is a hybrid (albeit a better one than RE6), and luckily the company switched it up and cemented themselves back at the top of the charts with consistently great games (RE7, DmC5, RE2). Let's hope it lasts

I absolutely love Claire's model and whoever voiced her was perfect. She sounds exactly like I've always imagined. I love this game.

I think revelations is capcoms backup plan if all else fails it also stars more resident Evil characters who don't get as much screen time anymore. example would be barry who starred in resident Evil 1 a brief camo in resident Evil 3 an then this game. Characters who also fall in the no screen time are Billy , Rebecca , Nikolai, Carlos and Hunk and I wouldn't be surprised if more of these side characters appear in future revelations games

I love this game, I have it on xbox one, and I think it looks, and plays amazing. Feels kinda underrated though imo. I absolutely love raid mode, think I enjoy it more than the actually story mode :)

the game really cheaped out on the animation front. everyone uses the Claire running animation. it's disappointing since in RER1 there is at least different animation for everyone.

As a die hard RE fans I really enjoy the game. It's like a love letter to the RE legacy.

I feel like Rev 2 is the most underrated entry in the series. It's addition to the lore, more cerebral storytelling and higher difficulty made it stand out to me. Compared to 5 and 6 this was a godsend.

I played the absolute shit out the Raid mode on PSvita, even with the frame rate issues, was super stoked when the Switch version came out.

fun fact, when the game first released on PC it was unplayable, they had to release multiple patches until you could play the thing. fun times

I love this game! Its a pretty solid experience. Getting to play Barry is a plus, the one liners adds so much humor. I waited till the game came out on disk to purchase it. Well worth it! Raid mode keeps ya playing for a long time! This game is a Blast indeed!

Yo, I remember I bought revelations 2 at Walmart just because it was "resident evil" always been a fan of the numbered entry's. This game has easily become one of my favorites in the whole series. Sooo good.

@Avalanche Reviews regarding Alex Wesker, I believe she is referenced in some of the files you uncover in RE5 Lost in Nightmares DLC, along mentions of Albert, the other Wesker and the island in Rev 2.

After the the out right Micheal Bay Joke that was RE6 (even if you liked it there's no getting around how stupid & not RE it was) this gave me hope for the series & after 7 I thanked the Nemesis I was right :)

Revelations 2 is, again, one of my favorite games of the series (likely due to it being one of the first RE games I really played more than just at a surface level). The music, the atmosphere, the environments, the gameplay, the surprisingly fun partner system, and the cheesy callbacks.. my god the cheesy callbacks. Revelations 2 came at a really rough time in my life, so I would often wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to fall back asleep. At some point I just got annoyed with laying in bed doing nothing or just reading, so I snuck downstairs and played through the whole game on my PC, finishing the game just as the sun came up. It's a really amazing memory to me, and I fell in love with the game as a result. I rememeber having to stifle my laughter a lot whenever Barry said a one liner to not wake up my parents, especially the callback one liners like "Ha! Who's the Master of Unlocking now, huh?!" and "I haaaaave thiiiiiiiis!". Long story short, like the first Revelations game, Revelations 2 holds a special place in my heart.

This is legit one one my fave games in the series After 2-remake and maybeeee 7 All the characters are good Moira MUST return!!! And what happened to Barry??! I truly enjoyed your video on this Retrospective and your other one(s) of the series. I truly hope you go back and talk about the Raid Modes for those are separate experiences that deserve their own review of their own. Maybe you did do these at one point in your channel and since I'm kinda new to your channel. One more thing Avalanche Reviews, Dead Aim deserves another play but with the Guncon 2 it suppose to be played with. I'm in the works of getting the T-wire so you can hook up a GunCon to the video output and play on a CRT. If needed, I'll even lend you mine for that review. It's the only way I played that game. Maybe it's nostalgia since I haven't had the chance to play it again that way, but from one RE fan to another, it deserves that that point of view.

My thoughts. The story was fine, the mechanics were fine, besides Barry being the best, the characters were ok. There’s a bit of weaponry to choose from, enemy variety is heavily limited, boss fights were not good. The endings I wasn’t very fond of, and like Revelations 1 the story is unfinished and ends with another cliffhanger and we don’t have a clue if it’ll lead anywhere. Overall I like the game and I had fun, and I want Capcom to wrap up the Revelations 1 and 2 stories. What happened to Jessica? What happened with Raymond? How will Barry and his family take action when they find out Natalia has successfully became Alex Wesker? I need to know what happened.

5:25 The people in Project W mentioned in 5 weren't siblings. They were unrelated kids gathered from around the world, indoctrinated by Umbrella and had their surnames changed to Wesker after the head researcher. Albert and Alex were 2 of them. Alex was mentioned in Lost In Nightmares files too.

For a while now I wanted to ask you why you don't mention Resis bonus modes like Mercenaries, Raid Mode etc at all in your Retrospective. Have you no love for them or is it simply enough work already to analize the main parts of each game? On that note, will you talk about Mercenaries 3D as a part of your Retrospective series? I think Capcom is unwilling or downright incapable of delivering a traditional survival horror game akin to RE1-3 because the urge to replicate the same RE4 formula is always there. This is why i love and hate RE4 at the same time. That being said, Revelations 2 looked, sounded and played better than most recent numbered entries. Alex's presence was definitely threatening and her motivation felt more meaningful than Saddler's, Simmons' or fake Ada's. The story and cast of characters were also better than what we're used to. Except for Moira... she and Ashley can hold hands and fall off a cliff... while being set on fire.

Im sad no more Jills Bootys in a tight suit with a good Perspective on it ^^ But looks like a good game. The First one looks more apealing in my eyes.

Dude. I thought I had mad love for the survival horror genre. But after watching every single one of your retrospective videos I feel surpassed. Your devotion to the series delights me. Nothing would make my bucket list more pleased than to discuss Resident Evil 2 with you. Keep up the great work.

i own this on ps3 and i had no gameplay issues. i just REALLY wish they had online coop for story mode. the game already has coop for raid mode (which i didn't care for) and the story was already designed to work with multiple players! some have said no one would want to play as the little girl since she cannot use weapons. which is silly i played as her most of the time.

Revelations 2 was so good and I'm kind of upset that they didn't continue the story in RE7. As much as I enjoyed RE7, it kinda sucks that they just threw out Natalia and Jake. I fully expected RE7 to be about Jake and Natalia/Alex.

This is my second favorite RE game. I know that’ll sound sacrilege to most, but the fact that the whole game is perfectly playable alone or with a friend is just so much fun and value for me. I've had friends who don’t like scary or even stressful games become fully engaged and interested in the series afterward. Sure, that’s not too big a deal for most fans, but this game stands out for someone who loves games with friends. I also believe this is the true sequel to RE4 and is vastly, VASTLY superior to 5 and 6.

My reaction when I first saw anything about this game was "Ehhhh Revelations 2 I don't know it doesn't look ver- HOLY SHIT IT'S BARRY! YES! TAKE MY MONEY CAPCOM!"

I really enjoyed this game. Story wise its possibly the best RE game for a long while and it felt much more fluid than the first Revelations game. I honestly feel like this is the game RE5 should have been. Im also currently working my way though all RE games and I too, found myself getting pissed at the fact I was basically replaying RE4 but I preferred this to RE5, personally.

I struggle to remember anything from this game. It was a very uninspiring experience for me, even compared to the first Revelations. Not the worst RE game ever, but certainly not the best.

I played it first on pc at 4K and it looked amazing. Clare’s ass never looked so good. Also the part where you fight the mutated Pedro was extra creepy for me.

Resident evil 4 really pissed in your cheerios huh? Lol. As a fan of both styles of resident evil i understand. As a young kid running around the Spencer estate are some of the best gaming memories i have.on the other hand i love the new style as well. Re4 is one of my favorite games of all time

I really liked the weird mix of horror/action revalations had. The moments where Barry was saying "She Wesker" was actually pretty funny.

it's funny how Capcom made the spin-off Revelations series to be the Survival Horror part of the franchise instead of making the main series more focused on Survival Horror and then making an Action Spin-off series, like... what the hell???????

Damn dude i feel like capcom doesnt get enough praise for literally being one of the most graphically competent, consistent and efficient studios. There right up there with With Kojimas work and Final Fantasy as far as like really pushing shit forward idk

Honestly I think Rev 2 took as much inspiration from Evil Within as anything else. Which I realise is sort of redundant to say given Shinji Mikami was behind that as well, but in terms of the gore spattered and rust encrusted aesthetics, both games feel like cousins.

So............I enjoyed this game but at the same time the game sucks because CLAIRE had her face completely ruined........who the hell did her character model!!>>

Rev 2 was such an enjoyable experience for me, i love playing coop games with my sister we've just always have this good synergy when playing, but shes never been into fast paced action games. I never got to play RE5 or 6 with her because of that reason. However when she saw that the other player was more of a support role and i asked for help, it cliqued. It was so much fun to have finally beat a resi game with her. The cinematic approach they took got us hooked too. Even though they released an episode every week it made it feel like the game didnt get too stale and we were able to plan out when to play and always excited for the next one, such a memorable experience we'll never forget.

Aww yeah. Just finished celebrating my birthday, and now I got a great new episode of the Retrospective to watch! Revelations 2 pleasantly surprised me. I really enjoyed it, more than the first Revelations I think. Seeing Barry as macho badass grandpa and seeing Claire period was a treat, and I like that they made the co-op a little different. Honestly reminds me of RE:0, one character to do the tough fighting, one to provide utilities ... damn, now I'm imagining an RE:0 remake in this style. It's never gonna happen but it'd be pretty badass.

I think Revelations titles could still work if they continued to do stuff like tell lost stories in the past between other titles and used more experimental gameplay mechanics.

alex was always said to be the only other wesker alive besides albert, and it was said that spenser kept her at his side, truth be told the fact she never showed up before felt like a loose end to any hardcore lore players

I just started playing this game. It's difficult and horrifying. This has probably the best controls in any resident evil game.

This is the first Resident Evil game in the franchise where Alyson Court does not provide the voice for Claire Redfield. She was replaced by "James Baker" (an alias for Ali Hillis). Court has stated she wasn't contacted by Capcom about reprising the character or even informed about her replacement, and that she would have loved to return to voice Claire stating the character had become a part of her over the many years. Takes place between the events of Resident Evil 5 (2009) and Resident Evil 6 (2012). Oddly, Resident Evil: Revelations 2 was never released for the Nintendo 3DS even though that was the original platform the first Revelations was developed for and released on. Revelations 2 is available on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS Vita, and PC. This is the second game in the series to use the Uroboros virus as a plot element (first being Resident Evil 5 (2009)). However, this is the first game to analyze the effects of a successful merging, as well as using it to make B.O.W.s. As the English voice recording was not done with a SAG-AFTRA approved contract, most of the American voice actors were using pseudonyms or at least similar versions of their names in order to distance themselves from their union-approved work. I really enjoyed this game and when it came out on the Switch, I bought it for the Resident Evil on the go and the controls play very well in the portable mode

As an RE fan from ‘96 I can say that REV2 was a great game, although I never really loved the way they made Claire’s face... but that’s *not* enough for me to dislike the game in the slightest.

Alex is not really Weskers sister. They were both just kidnapped as kids by umbrella and were booth part of the same experiment "Wesker-Project"

This is my favourite RE title despite (or possibly because of) being more American horror movie than RE. In fact the weakest parts for me were when it was paying off mysteries with RE continuity nonsense. Genuinely, I think this is a better game if you *DON'T* recognise Oswell E. Spencer, Wesker, Lansdale, Uroboros, Terragrigia etc. It's paying off a compelling mystery with something familiar and banal by this point. (Also, while I like Claire's characterisation, I think it works better for a standard horror tough girl survivor and not the Claire Redfield of previous games.) Other than that, my biggest issues were structural. Gameplay-wise, I really like Barry Ep 3, but it feels pointless because (without spoiling) the thing they're looking for is a thing they already had at the start of the episode and gave up for no reason. Also, I love the conversation between Barry and Natalia at the beginning, but it feels like it's in entirely the wrong place. Funnily enough, Ep 1 feels the most filler-y to me, with Ep 2 kicking off the actual plot and introducing all the characters as if we already knew them. It feels like Ep 1 was a proof of concept (being the most self-contained and the most classically RE) which got tacked on the front and expanded because of the episodic structure. Still, I think it's one of the better stories in the RE series, certainly one of the better mysteries, and the best 3rd person gameplay prior to the remakes. Part of that is the sound effects, which I think are the best of any game _including_ the remakes. I also think it's the best implementation of dual characters. Normally that reduces the tension but here they achieve the opposite by having a combat and non-combat character and encouraging you in various ways to switch to the latter (without just making them a burden).

I think overall I enjoyed the gameplay of REV1 more but I liked the characters of REV2 more. And considering how cheap you can get the "ultimate" editions of both, I think they are great games.

I'm a fucking freak, and I really liked Moira Burton. Yeah, she was fairly free with the 'fuck' bombs and had this, very of the time, "punk lez" look to her, but her total normalcy in this series of self-serious dorklords was refreshing, and her relationship with Barry was- while not insanely complex- different enough from the rather flat characters in the series, that she kind of served as a blueprint for what Capcom did with the Ethan duology and the remakes.

Nice to see Terra-save get a mention. now correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't The Degeneration CG movie where they introduced it? I'm suprised Capcom rememberd it from all the way back in 2008 7 years after it came out.

Finished it with my sister, split screen, it was an amazing experience, but we were left wanting more

I enjoy most of your reviews but there seems to a running theme, which is a lack of diligent research. Like you had the time to write a complaint about Alex Wesker’s existence but not enough to do a simple google search. Examples like this happen a lot.

This game ended up having some really good character development for some series favorites whom we don't get to see very often; my favorite, of course, being the Sluice Gate.

I loved REV2...closest to RE4 they've gotten and that was my best RE ever.

I had just finished the first episode, completely unaware that it was indeed episodic. About 30 seconds later I almost crushed my TV under the weight of my obscenities, "what the fuck do you mean next episode!"

Great review as always, but why didn't you mention the Raid mode, and btw I love the invisible enemies they add a lot of tension

Actually, on PC you can just click to pick items, so using E and F is pointless. Also, i really liked the invisible monster, the concept of having to aim were the girl was pointing and follow her instructions is awesome.

I just started playing this, yes just now and omg so far this game is terrifying and sooo gooood!!! I am hooked!!! I can’t put it down I just wanted to watch bits of some reviews to see if anyone agrees with me.

Revelation 2 was a great game. But where it truly shines for me is its raid mode. Once it gets goiNg, IT GOES.

Not gonna lie, as I played this game, the whole feeling of it felt like Silent hill. That’s just me but I don’t know about you guys.

tbh, I still think RER2 has the best/most balance mix of action + survival horror combat, arguably the best one out all of RE games including the new ones (RE7 & RE2). I wouldn't be surprise to if the dodge step feature is making a come back to the upcoming RE3R as the OG RE3 also has dodge, push, melee moves to combat the more relentless & faster Nemesis.

Love the pateron readout commentary, people can actually speak a language without being able to read it guys they are in fact two separate skills!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure that a large portion of the weapon sound effects come directly from RE6

The original Resident Evil games sucked dick. Am I the ONLY person who thought the series got way better during re4-re6? I don't think I am because they were the best selling RE games. The games were ALWAYS schlock and starting with re4 the gameplay finally matched the narrative.

Hopefully in Revelations 3 we'll get to see Billy Coen again. I've been itching to see him show up again.

This is actually a great game for gaming couples, especially if one isn't as interested in the combat portions, seeing as how one character is more of a supporting role in combat, me and my gf played through this one together and had a blast :)

It was Eh to me, could have been better to me.
