I’m convinced that despite Paul Anderson writing all of these movies, he’s never actually seen any of them and he can only VAGUELY remember the plot of the previous film every time he has to write a new one.
He's also doing it while wasted out of his mind. But yeah with that extra added I compeltely agree with that headcannon. That's what I'm telling my kids.
I think it's more likely that his wife walks into his studio when he's writing and just says 'You know what would be REALLY COOL', and he's like eh, $$$$$
It was hijacked by him and his wife. They didn't care about the lore or the original material. All they cared about was themselves when making these movies. I hate them.
Yes, portraying your wife as a invincible super human without any annoying weaknesses, different costumes that would be ho hum in anime, and a total disregard to plot will make you wealthy!
Let's be honest. At this point, Wes Anderson is just vying for the King of the Simps award and wants everyone else to see his wife as a beautiful, unassailable, super human goddess. We all know hes just making these movies to keep his nose firmly up her ass and for the easy money they both make off them without having to put in ANY actual effort. He's never cared about resident evil as an IP or its lore, it's always been about him and his wife's ego and the money. The dude is a consummate ass-hat and deserves all the dumps that everyone takes on him and all these shitty films. He's literally been in charge of all these movies and cares so little for their own continuity and lore that even his retcons have retcons. The absolute worst part about all this is they aren't even so bad they are good, they are just so bad that they keep getting worse and the Resident Evil IP in film had SO MUCH promise to be something great but it got hijacked by a hack director and his wife for vanity and money. When they said the antivirus is under Raccoon City, I kept thinking "You mean the Raccoon City that got nuked? Nuked specifically to destroy the city and the hive underneath?".
Wesker, the most iconic villain of the series and one of its biggest badasses, gets taken out by a door from a old lady who did nothing but watch the world burn.
Funny fact Wesker from the movies survived a Purge bomb, really a kind of a fucking nuclear bomb in the 4th movie Just to die like this in 6 why Don't he died in 4 anyway 😂

This movie has to be the worst case of retconning I’ve ever seen. It retcons not just EVERYTHING about the last film, but the whole series in general. And it is so nonsensical: -Dr. Isaacs suddenly being the actual big bad when Wesker was CLEARLY his boss the last time we saw him. You know that that was only done because Ian Glein got big on Game of Thrones post-Extinction. -Red Queen being good now when she was clearly evil in the last film. -Wesker “pretending” to team with Alice and help her in the last film, which makes zero sense. -Angela Ashford was clearly the model for the Red Queen, now she’s not. Nor is she even mentioned. -Leon, Jill, and Ada Wong being just gone with zero explanation. And where is Chris Redfield as well? -Etc. Paul W.S. Anderson clearly just DGAF with this one.
In an alternate reality, the Resident Evil movies not only keep well within continuity, put their focus on an ensemble cast of well-rounded characters, and never feel like they've overstayed their welcome, but also pay homage to the original source material without appearing to randomly pander with meaningless fan service. Unfortunately, it's also the reality where everything tastes like stale candy corn. EVERYTHING.
@@brianbabin6333 I agree on every count. I will add that the movies never pretended to be an adaptation, they always said they were doing their own thing, in their own continuity, with their own characters. It was RE fans that were unreasonable by insisting that the series failed at something it never set out to do in the first place and never advertised itself as doing. And yeah, I too love the movies but really dislike the 6th.
This thing also happens with the Friday the 13th movies but there it's at least understandable because each movie is written by different person, this series doesn't have that excuse it's the same guy wrote all 6 and directed 4 of these
@@adamcade604 Plus aside from the first and second there usually isn't any carry over characters or plots, besides Jason himself and the fact that he kills folk.
@@GriffinPilgrimdude, in part 2 they don't even bother to explain not only how Jason came back and how he went from a deformed dead corpses in the ending of the original to become this diformed killer living in the woods
They just ignore most of what they set up minus a small moment, like Alice is controlled by Sam Issacs in 3 for 5 minutes, and nothing else comes. And they did the clone thing in 4 mostly to show off the 3D stuff, they could have spent a full movie on it but wiped it away.
This movie feels like it comes from another dimension's continuity. Holy shit, wasnt the Red Queen trying to kill everyone in the last movie? Why did Wesker save Alice if he wanted her dead??? Why would Wesker pretend to give her powers back if only HE would know? lol, so much wrong ffs.
bro whats fucking halarious to me is Wesker being killed by a fucking door when in the last movie he was basically Neo and survived a explosion mere meters from this face
This series is a perfect example on how to derail a train. Not only do they not follow the original story, but from one film to another, the storyline changes. The before the last « chapter » hinted to an interested sequel which ended up in an irritating gimmick.

i never figured out too, the moment the antivirus is set free, all zombies collapse. ok i get it, the antivirus is not only a cure, it "kills" the virus inside the zombies and return them to "normal" dead corpses ok... but a airborne virus, get inside the body by inhaling it trough breathing... but i thought zombies dont breath anymore ^^
@@Ryodraco by removing seed distributors and pollenators thus causing certain plants to die off altering the levels of erosion and evaporation as the carbon dioxide levels rise contributing to a greehouse effect for global warming would be one way
I never understood the whole timer thing. How did they know exactly when the last human would be bit and turn? "When need to add some tension, add an obscure timer!"
And since it was so close to zero when the cure was released. What does that mean? Is there single settlement that nearly had zombies break in? Are there like only 4 people left? Ending the zombie outbreak so close to everyone dying can't be a good thing.
@@somethingclever4297 They must have somehow calculated the wind speeds and how long it would take for the airborne antivirus to travel around the world, too.
It was supposed to be Umbrella knew the locations of the last enclaves of humans and had set the zombies etc on them. Umbrella knew how long it would take to overrun the enclaves. Of course dropping the antivirus in Racoon City would make no difference to the chances of survival for the last humans unless the antidote travelled at light speed. So yep, everyone's dead, the film couldn't even keep to its own logic.
I did get tired of all the sequel bait being retconed, and every time they have some kind of hope or group of survivors, they're always wiped out by the sequel. Like why care about any character besides Alice?
Wait, Wesker's injection didn't give Alice her powers back? THAT WAS A JOKE! My immediate response to that scene was to ask "what is that supposed to do?" and now it's an actual plot point that it did nothing?
The Jovavich powers transcend the need for a movie franchise with this many sequels to make any sense narratively in any way whatsoever. Great video, my dude!
"And leaves nothing behind but the fresh scent of Brut" I spit milk all over the place after hearing this😂😅. I haven't heard ANYONE mention Brut since I was like 10 and my old man was obsessed with it.
Not used to seeing "old man" to refer to someone's father, reading that, 10 years old, and peeking the PFP I started hearing banjos in my head for a second.
I do “love” how the story only makes sense if you’ve never seen any of the previous films, but yet the writers also put in specific references that you would only get if you’d watched the previous films. Those previous films at least had some fun visuals and decent action unlike this film which has some of the worst edited fight scenes I think I’ve ever seen
Yeah, I watched it in the theatre and yes, it was terrible. My compadre mentioned that it should have been dubbed The Final insult. I have a cheap box set and this disc hasn’t even left its tray once (except during shipping, when it decided to yeet itself in shame). Keep up the great work and have a great day.
Paul Anderson created Alice. Mila played Alice, Paul and Mila ended up getting married and having children. They're still married till this day. Paul literally married the women who played his OC. This man is a legend in my book!
They did still have the cure in the second movie. Angela had it with her and Alice used it on Carlos after he was bitten. It was after that that they completely forgot about it.
Man what a ride! I'm glad you reviewed these movies. I guess if the traitor was an employee of umbrella, that person would've by passed the traps, especially if set traps were connected to the red queen. But that's just 1 of many ways these movies could've been fixed.
Wonderful summer, thank you very much, Decker ! As an aside, if this movie had been the first entry in the saga (after all it's pretty much self contained) imagine the backlash !
This is quite the final movie. In a six movie franchise, they had no problems BSing a reason to not even bother paying attention and probably saving you time in the process minus the first three movies 😂
Decker, I was waiting on you to review the fourth kind. Creepy, suspenseful, alien phenomenon... You can't have a summer of Mila Jovovich without the fourth kind!
The story got jumbled so much over the years in these movies . I can’t even take having Issacs as the boss behind this all serious . The trifecta of bitches with the original Alicia Marcus , OG clone and red queen the hero in the end . I get that this is the series that kept her semi relevant over the last 20 + years , but jeez it’s a little much with her role .
giving enough time i most likely could figure out how to tied all the films together with the right edit. I mean i could change the line of the red queen to say she can kill any of the umbrella board member or elite. I would also change the location of the airborne cure cause you the original location was overun already with t zombie. Why you want to work in a base full of them?
So from what I understand of it, the Red Queen could kill those in the Hive because they were already written off. Meanwhile she was hard coded to protect the actual Elites... Also Dr Isaacs was upgraded with some kind of cybernetics or something. I am pretty sure that Alice was given that test to see if she was worthy of helping humanity rise back up as its saviour...
Also the viable humans were the ones in on the plan, it wasn't that they were rich. It was they were morally dubious assholes that would attempt to take over any civilization that was rebuilt, would back stab them in a second, and essentially being the last viable humans were the whole point for them going into stasis in the first place. It would be like saying: Okay these guys are responsible for the extinction of our race, but we can keep our race alive by giving them exactly what they wanted... Let them be the force that rebuilds out world, quietly scheme to wipe out those who weren't in stasis with them, and basically write history forever more as the "winners" where they frame the whole thing as divine punishment and that they were chosen to lead what remained of the "pure" humans who "God" had chosen to survive.
Why doesn't Wesker just release the detonator immediately after being handed it. I mean if I was in that situation I would. I'm not letting my enemies walk out of there while I have to stay and die.
The confusing thing for me has not been what has changed with the backstory, but why they felt the need to change it. The backstory on who created the virus and for why would still have worked here if they had left it. It seems a lot of effort to change this just so could (if this is why they did it) eat up some screen time and/or use younger actors etc.
Tacking religious zealotry onto Isaacs felt to me like a quarter-assed attempted at tying in Sadler from RE 4 with this movie's villain. But eh, fuggettit. The last RezEve movie before this one was so genuinely upsetting to me that I refused to watch this so-called final chapter, until a few friends got together for a rare activity. - A postmortem dissection of this clearly doomed sequel (with booze and pizza, like all the best autopsies). And almost immediately from its clusterfuck of an opening recap, we knew it was going to be messy. No question about it, "RE:TFC" was D.O.A. and its flogged, battered, half-jumpstarted corpse is just riddled with questionable decisions from head to foot. We seriously shared in your exact sentiment that night as the credits rolled and we all declared in unison, *Thank freaking God!* No I am not the least bit curious to see how any future movies would have tied Alice in with an undying Texas Chainsaw family of weirdos, or a giant vampire lady heading up a troupe of inept circus freaks! No I never had any wish to see what a proposed crossover with "Underworld" would have looked like! Let it remain dead and buried here, Hollywood. And let us move on.
I took a friend to this in the cinema and it was some of the best money we’ve ever spent. We laughed the whole way through 😅 The timing to save 5,000 people makes absolutely no sense.. no sense at all. This film is fucking hilarious
"-where sequels seem to actually punish the viewer if they bother to pay attention." This is just more confirmation to me that Horror films should never be franchised, even the best examples inevitably devolve into this. And if ever need proof about how, creatively bankrupt & corrupt Hollywood is, remember not only was Paul W.S. Anderson allowed to run this franchise into the ground, he somehow still has a career.
This one is an abomination on every level. Even though, this franchise was never anything special and at best mediocre, the previous 5 films despite their issues were pleasent to watch and worked as guilty pleasures. This movie is the exception to that because it has horrendous editing, garbage cinematography, lighting, sound design and it's just an unpleasant experience, looks so dark & dirty, no fun to be found and typically bad CGI. And don't get me started on the continuity errors that are inexcusable with having the same writer in every film and they are so obvious that even someone like Jeremy jahns, who has stated that he has seen each movie once in the theatres, could still figure out the plot holes.
I never understood why isaacs couldn’t kill old actual Alice, it’s what 15 years into the apocalypse? It’s not like the non existent police would arrest him to take him to non existent prison or that money would matter at this point so the whole keeping the company going doesn’t make sense, where are the employees going to spend there paychecks, Kmart? Buffalo Wild Wings? Waffle house? Please tell me waffle house survived or I’ll never forgive you Paul!
I suppose (and I'm just headcanon here) that if he did that the red queen would have the act of murder of someone so high up result in his termination.
So im likely not the only one to notice this but it does seem like mila plays a near carbon copy of an anime hero version of herself with plot armor in all her films. Right?
RE and ultraviolet have good excuses (alongside ultraviolet getting fucked), but we saw good examples of movies where she's not exactly 'anime' with this summer.
I legit remember thinking that the old Mila from this movie is the same girl from the second movie. I gave this movie a lot morecredit, like cool it all came full circle, only now realizing that's not what happened
I'm reminded of the scene in Invader Zim where Gir is trying to explain a temporal loop and his head explodes. Was waiting for yours to explode while trying to go over the plot mess here.
That and Mortal Kombat, which is still the best live action vg adaptation if you ask me. Even a terrible director can possibly have a few actual good films in their filmography.
What a day. I am out of coffee and tea bags. My replacement Bank Card is delayed. Another heatwave. And a new covering on the pavement on the street, leaves my neighbours and I unable to leave our homes. But soft. What light from yonder Laptop shines? It is the West and Decker Shado is the perfect way to forget my petty troubles.
It only seems fitting that the final movie in this mess of a franchise is the most continuity error filled one of them all. And the "shaky cam" editing they went with for this movie was just uncomfortable to sit through. After the picture quality of the last movie, this was a very jarring switch. Seriously though, reducing Wesker to being the right hand of a character invented just for these films? When Wesker himself is one of the most famous leading villains in all of RE?!? One of the stupidest decisions made by Paul ever when it came to these movies. Alice sure did get over her clone's daughter dying pretty quickly despite the big thing from the last movie being about her stepping up to be that girl's mother.
Demoting wesker is the least of the problems. Did you not see the part where he got killed by a door? Probably the biggest villain in the series (Who also has superpowers.)..... Got killed..... By a door.
22:59 and there u go! the moment that pissed off many RE fans! Also i didnt like the fight scenes in this one! like, keep the camera still for a second FFS! Wel, this whole movie is MEH! dumb plot! PFT!
The first was good. It showed a side story. After that a total crap show for the rest they butchered the nemesis monster and the "tyrant" they TRIED to do.....UGH. this was the WORST of the batch. Great video as always Mr. Shado❤
Not so fun fact - with a population of about 5K alive, that means the gene pool is significantly reduced and the odds of recessive diseases etc (Not good for a population of any kind) becoming dominant once again. There's a minimum threshold a population should achieve and 5K is dangerously close to it, if not it. I only know this because I was writing a Post-Apocalyptic story and I had to some research.
It is amazing what doing research for a creation will tell you. Did a review for a cheap movie involving the black plague. Learned some amazing things like how it can still pop up like in Madagascar back in 2017-ish.
This movie was the biggest disappointment since Dragon Ball Evolution. The way they obviously had no idea how to end it or even START. The fact that we NEVER find out what happened at the end of retribution (besides wesker betrayed them) but killing off every single character from the game introduced in the previous movie was just BONKERS. Retribution said yeah fuck Chris, Leon, Ada, Jill and even her fucking clone deaf daughter.
Well we kinda know what happened. Everyone got wiped. How exactly? no clue. If I had to guess. Zombies fight humans. BLOOD, DEATH, GORE! and then Wesker lets off explosives or something...I dunno. I just remember I had a coworker back when I was at McDonalds who was just so disappointed when I told him they show you none of that battle. He didn't think the film would be good he just figured the opening would be cool.
Hey Decker! My name is Cameron, I just wanted to share something if you’re able to read this hopefully. I discovered your channel about 3 and a half years ago and haven’t missed an upload since. Your videos always make me laugh and I always look forward to the next video, especially this year. Arguably this has been the worst year of my life thus far. I suffer now from severe depression and anxiety, it feels like it’s neverending and I’m afraid there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. However no matter what, I always go back to your videos and look forward to the next because you give me light that I need right now. Thank you sincerely for making awesome content to this day and never stop.
I don't have epilepsy, but watching this in a dark movie theater was horrible. It's that badly edited. Definitely the worst film of the Anderson RE films.
When I was younger I was always wondering why these movies never built on each other and just did their own thing each time. I thought they had different directors maybe but apparently the director paul anderson just wings it each time I guess
Weirdly, it's said that the reason Anderson did every RE movie is because he didn't do the second Mortal Kombat movie and didn't like what they did with it. But now I'm just wondering... would he even have done any different?
I can live in a mad max style zombie apocalypse. But no boobies? In seven confusing iterations, not one nipple slip? I mean.... what are we fighting for?
The blight of this whole series was the strategy of 'cool idea for a scene' as the first priority, without a coherent story to tie them together. And a 3 barrel shotgun? That has been surpassed in better horror movies before.
This is the only movie in the series I actively disliked. It tried to have some grand narrative all of a sudden that, as you said, retconned everything in the most harebrained fashion. I mean, a corporate takeover? That's what it's all been about? It should've just been the attack on the white house and that's it.
This movie was really disappointing tbh, Retribution was a fun movie but it had its flaws then The Final Chapter comes out and shits all over the previous one. Only watched this one once and forgot about most of it except for how disappointing it was and how they handled the characters. Good review btw.
The glaring issue in these "save the world by killing everyone but a select few" movies is...if it's only rich folks left alive...who's going to do all the grueling work to get food from the farms to your table? Short sighted idiots.
I remember that my older sister invited me to watch it in 3d because she had coupons. We ended up with a headache we didn't know if it was due to the 3d or the shit we watched.
6:15 I couldnt Fully Understand just how a computer would know an exact number of anything let alone how many people exactly there are around and left.
I actually was really hyped about this movie :d This franchise is my guilty pleasure because the first Resident Evil and The Predator were the only 2 movies I had on my PC when I was a kid so I watched them religiously. I know as the movies went on they became worse and worse but I nonetheless enjoyed them. Afterlife was the first one I was able to catch at the cinema and the ending from the previous one prepared the stage for awesome battle with Alice clones which ended in like 5 minutes of the beginning which was dissapointing and left me with blue balls. I was pretty mad so I didn't watch Retribution in the cinema and its ending preparing us for the humanity last stand got me so hyped about The Final Chapter. Imagine my absolute dissapointment when it got resolved off screen. W T F and then all the other retcons which happened in this one felt like I was in the middle of a fucking fever dream that kept getting weirder and weirder by the second. Final Chapter is borderline abusive to the viewer that enjoyed previous entries and can go suck a big chubby vial of T-Virus This franchise is like a collection of big hype moments that lead nowhere and is leaving you with blue balls :( but I still love the first 3 movies
