Ethan Winters is the absolute master of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. God just woke up one day can decided to say "you see that guy? fuck him!" and just EVERYTHING went to shit.
SPOILER COMMENT. Can we agree that Buns, in a shocked state and making a joke, actually predicted the ending in the first 10 minutes of the game? "Package secured?! Oh no! She is a mold baby!"
@@nolanhewitt2563 Chris saying "package secure" and the flashback about complications with the baby. Soon as that happened, I'm like "so Rose is a BioWeapon. Got it". Everything in a Resi game has to be Umbrella or a BioWeapon Umbrella wishes they had.
I do love that when "Mia" was shot in the beginning, the first shot taken, look at her face. She looks so mad looking at her shoulder. "How dare you shoot me" was written all over her face before she got littered with bullets
I know that first shot happens several seconds before the raid begins so the player has time to react and wonder what's happening, but it's really funny to think about from the BSAA squad's perspective. _"What? Whose finger slipped? Who did that?? Fuck it, open fire!"_
@@JeedyJay I'd like to think the first shot was a test shot to see if they were wrong about it being Miranda, which is why it was a shoulder shot when I am certain they had a good head shot during that moment.
@@bluewolf6323 I’m not sure what frame of mind the voice actor was in or how many times it’s practiced but that was one of the most genuine voice lines I’ve ever heard
@@bluewolf6323 went through absolute hell for his daughter and didnt really even get to see her. destroyed me when he was talking about sharing a drink with her and teaching her life things when she's older. Big ouch
You have to note that Lady D not only throws her desk away in anger. She also throws the only reflectable surface in the entire game away from you. So you never can see Ethan's face. Capcom really loves to take away his head, even if they had his head modeled, for some reason. XD
Wait? What do you mean? There are other mirrors in the game but there just isn't no reflexions (even for the background). The house bathroom for example at the start.
It's because in a first-person view your view originates inside your head. Outside of VR where you actually could put cameras in the eyesockets of a modelled head, you can't really have a mapped view from inside the character's face conform to a TV (I mean it'd look really weird having a hovering out-of-focus binocular-distorted nose on a screen several feet away) so they deal with it by having no head on the model. Technically you can cheat by just putting a second character model which does have a head behind a sheet of glass in a copy of the room you're in, but that doesn't replicate how a mirror actually behaves, and doesn't really add anything because FPS controls result in the character moving in a very unnatural way.
Honestly, it still confuses me why they never showed his face in 8. We know basically everything about him now(everything important) so why continue to hide him?
But along the way, you’ll meet; Return of gun Sketchy healthcare Scarily detailed diary entries A big man with a heart of flesh Steampunk Frankensteins Mommy issues Bride of chucky Save the bees The world’s greatest birth control Bloodborne Flashbacks A chilling presence Surgery simulator Weird sketchy cult stuff(Alright everyone, now drink the “elixir”) Fine wine, no really Pacific Rim Claustrophobia And oh… oh my! “Compilation of Lady D with “Every time we touch” playing in the background*
Legit held off buying this game because of this freaky section. Could handle the rest but good lord that part fucked with me. On my second playthrough but still dreading it.
I cannot wait for the “for Beginners” for this game. Also can I just say that Ethan’s VA has done incredible in this game. You can sense the anger that Ethan is feeling - no joke.
SBB: Ethan just does not register pain like other people does. He's just...on a whole different level. Me: *watching this with full knowledge of the plot* 😬👉👈
I don't know why but I find 2:17:05 kinda funny for some reason Both Ethan and Morrow just looking at each other for a couple of seconds and Ethan be like " ill be taking this " it kinda funny to me
The doll house is legit a straight up homage to P.T and the potential the new Silent Hills had to begin with, I sincerely hop Kojima manages to get their hands back on the Silent Hill franchise since apparently Konami is putting it up for sale/grab... If not, I hope Kojima manages to create a spiritual successor one day.
That was literally the only part of the game that made me go insane like my friends watched me do my second playthrough and I was on that part and they saw just how much I was focused on just getting through it
If Konami was so dead set on fucking over Kojima that they basically banned him from the VGA, there is no way they would sell SH to him. They would flip Kojima the bird and deny the sale purely out of spite.
I was just saying the house looks like silent hills PT, but idk if they’re going to bring that back honestly it’s been years and it seems like minds are made up
In one of Heisenberg’s notes, he states that he wanted to team up with Ethan and then kill him after to do experiments on his body. If Ethan took the deal, he’d be dead.
zero downsides, I mean since he said "no" it must mean he thinks he can take him. So like, say yes, get his help, and then double cross him easy peezy.
I feel like Karl's a very "I can understand where you're coming from, but I can't accept what you're doing" person. Again, this is for me, and even I have a certain Lord-shaped soft spot in my psyche (Aida knows who that is). Of course, Ethan had both just met him only a few days prior and had already bulldozed through his three other "comrades" by the end, so Daddy Dearest wasn't slowing down for anything.
@@edwardt.8704 Not to mention Heisenberg tried to have him killed twice, which idk about you but I sure as hell wouldn’t trust the guy who threw me into a Saw movie trap and into a den of werewolves.
I’ve made myself play through that section so many times that I have it down to a science now. I know exactly where she is at every moment. I STILL panic when I replace the fuse and have to wait for the slow ass elevator to open.
I’m really disliking Chris not gonna lie; Himbo over here literally took apart every single threat in the village solo, with some help from Duke of course. At any point, Chris could’ve took Ethan aside and been like “Hey! You’re able to take on literally fucking everything thrown at you and you have an Arsenal at your fingers; your wife’s alive, your baby is mold, and we plan on nuking everything. Can you fucking chill for 2 minutes by chance”
Also The fact for the next few years or so Chris didn't even think of getting Ethan tested for mold infection after the Bakers either. Just cus Chris made it through the whole series without infection doesn't mean Ethan would to. For God Sakes everyone like Clair, Leon and Jill needed a tetanus shot and Serum after what they been through
1:02:51 I am still 99% sure this was originally supposed to be Elena/Helena from the village section. She originally had a bigger part in the plot and even had her own playable section, and shares an actress (and voice actress) with this daughter... who happens to act very familiar with Ethan. Get the feeling her original demise was getting captured and turned into the third daughter, but that was changed.
Like, 25%, maybe? Another 50% if the Big Strong Military Men also *at least* did their Big Strong Military Man things. But it seems they failed both communication class and Basic Initiative.
Buns: "I have an extreme fear of dolls, I am extremely afraid of dolls." Me, remembering that Donna's Part has the Baby Corridor: "OH SHES GONNA LIKE DONNA'S DUNGEON!"
Oh I just remembered. In RE7, there's a missable cutscene where Jack shows you how to re-attach your foot after he slices it off, he's real giggly about it, and leaves you alone to restart the chase. Which is why Ethan immediately just put some of that crystal gatorade on his stump to stick the hand back on. It worked with his foot before.
Her reaction to losing her weapons against Beneviento was marvelous. I had that same feeling of dread. And the tragedy, you realize how little is actually there when you replay for challenges. .-.
During the Heisenburg fight, I the radio in the background started playing AC/DC. I can tell you from experience watching Buns have a mech battle with TNT playing in the background is honestly life-changing.
I love how the mix-up to a psychological horror is so well executed with the doll house segment. Having your guns stripped away is one thing that makes the player reconsider their approach in a way unfamiliar to them, but the part before the cadaver section is really what sells it for me- it’s like you just walk into a house. A large house yes, but there’s nothing amiss. Sure it’s a horror game and you expect something to happen, but it’s that moment of silence, of something feeling terribly wrong but nothing out of place. That’s what sells the game for me- the sheer versatility in game design one must have to be able to make something horrifying out of absolutely nothing is such a power move
When the village is designed after Eurothug4000's Gramgram's house. Ethan Winter's VA is pretty good, specially on the box reveal and the final lines - hope he gets more work. Now fight the Wolfman, Dracula and her 3 daughters, the creature from the black lagoon, frankenstein, his monsters, the muppets, and death from hellboy 2.
Everytime I see a "Mature" warning about one of Buns's videos : "Silly RU-vid, there's nothing mature about Buns!" 3:25:55 That's what she said! (Rimshot!)
Spoilers In the lore, Mother Miranda was the mentor for the founder of the Umbrella Corp. When he left her tutelage, he took that symbol and used it for his company
59:15 Yes it's how it works. In RE7 if Jack catches you while opening the hatch, he'll cut Ethan's leg off and give him medicine to glue it back on. Granted it's only IF he catches you while opening the hatch.
On the map it looked left but in actuality it's right. Sometimes it just looks like that. Or maybe she just subconsciously switched them. Happens sometimes.
Ty: Don't be ridiculous Mia: Ethan Ty: *screams like a banshee* I hate it here! Also Tyler "I don't wanna see the dolls" 5 seconds later "IT'S TOO QUIET'
there's no umbrella compensation because they work for Blue Umbrella, an entirely different and separate/independent company from the original. They're a company that was created to clean up Umbrella's mess. 3:36:00 people forget this but at the end of RE 7, mia was recovered in a stretcher and ethan was there to see her in the heli, and she was actually cured of the mold infection so she became normal. Another thing people seem to miss for some weird reason is Rose wearing Ethan's brown/greenish jacket at the end.
Oh man Buns getting pissed at Rose being taken, Ethan channeling Mama Bear Buns during this adventure. Hell hath no fury like that of an enraged maternal lesbian. +-+ Buns's reaction to Angie was priceless. +-+ Buns approaching Donna and Angies house: "at least I've got a gun." Famous last words. Also Buns singing classic Disney songs to help calm her nerves is like the cutest fucking thing ever. Though I will admit I don't remember "Hoes in this house", that from one of the newer shows on Disney+? Something about farmers I'm guessing. +-+ Moroue is the most tragic character in this game and he deserved to be happy. +-+ The Duke is Ethans Fairy Godfather, you can not say otherwise. 🧚♂️ +-+ ETHAN IS THE BEST DAD AND DESERVED BETTER!
Well Donna’s story is pretty tragic too, she lost her sister then her parents took their own lives leaving her so traumatized she wouldn’t speak. The Cadou made her mental health worse to the point she reversed back to a child like state and would only talk through Angie. She even was excited to use her power to bring others their lost loved ones again before she realized they were only hallucinations. All of this only to be seen as a failure by Mother Miranda just because she suffered from mental health issues
Love this game. To me, the story of Ethan of Resident Evil 7 & 8 are my favorite games of the RE series. I broke the first time I heard him say, "Goodbye, Rosemary." I love that while other RE titles explore different outbreaks, RE 7 & 8 explore the origins through Ethan. The game dropped so many hints that Ethan is mold, but to finally hear it and have to realize he did die back in 7, it still hits the shock value that makes this great. Thanks for compiling this, Buns. I enjoyed watching your playthrough and reactions.
when Buns gets to the "creepy doll house" area it never fails to make me laugh hearing her push through her stress and anxiety. it is very genuine to me the level of fear she's feeling and its moments like that that makes me happy that there are AAA titles able to create those sorts of moments, and people out there who are able to appreciate it genuinely.
Who needs to see another full play of the game when I've seen two already and can just appreciate humor like yours while knowing context for every situation? God you make me chuckle
Donna's area was my favorite of all the bosses outside of Heisenberg's. It was the one area where I actually felt on edge. In order of favorite to least favorite it goes: Donna's, Heisenberg's, Dimitrescu's, & Moreau's. They're all really good just Moreau's was my least favorite
Buns, I love you and your terror and fear at Angie's part of the game has probably given me enough life to basically be immortal now. XD This was a GOLDEN video.
@@Phyllo9 That's not an exploit, it's a QTE at the end of RE5 when you're partway through fighting Wesker after crashing a plane into an oil rig inside a volcano.
Yeah... But in his defense at this point in the series Chris is probably used to being one of the only people actually doing all the heavy lifting when it comes to battling bioweapons. Capable as Ethan has proved, Chris is probably just trying to do his job without Ethan getting in the way.
This was fun. I love horror movies but I'm too twitchy and jumpy to play scary games so this was fun and informative to watch. For playing through that dollhouse, you da real mvp.
I fell asleep with a youtube video from someone else playing and woke up to this. The algorithm is putting in work today. This person is hilarious. Subscribed!
While it's a shame the plot is entirely contrived by "Chris is a moron who, despite growing jaded from never getting full details on his missions, neglects to provide the most basic of basic information to Ethan." The game sure does it's darndest to pretend that obvious fact will be ignored. Still had a lot of fun on the way, though.
