Recall the Mayor but not the DA? Who prosecute the criminals?

DA Price said she will not use incarceration as a form of punishment while she's in office. If you don't recall the DA, recalling the mayor and beefing up the defunded police departments will mean NOTHING if these criminals just get a slap on the wrist once arrested

and her replacement will be no different than her.

Oakland hasn't had a mayor in decades, maybe except for Moonbeam.

Believe or not, as long as the legal system is not changed, Oakland will be the same Oakland.

Recalling Thao for things like not getting a permanent police chief, sure that makes sense. But just imagining that things would be radically different if there was a different mayor? There needs to be a mechanism in place where legal, taxpaying, American residents can remove any politician, judge, DA if they are not doing their job.

It is unfair to dump everything on Sheng Thao. The problem in Oakland existed long time before Sheng Thao becomes Mayor.

Sounds like scapegoating, Mayor Sheng Thao's public appearances are proficiently said in the past, she is now politically targeted. It is the community that must cooperate, the government cannot do it alone. Change requires time and patience, what is occurring in Oakland is happening nationwide. Recall efforts are expensive and time consuming, Mayor Thao's has city planning studies which are necessary as a public official. City planning is a not-for-profit organization that means tax revenues that are received are fully used for government and not meant for profitability. If the government is underfunded due to lack of tax revenues, services will be curtailed. By November 2024, it will be approximately Mayor Sheng Thao's third year, why don't they just wait for the next mayoral election?

If they put that kind of effort into the many issues Oakland has. Maybe voting to defund the police and having fewer criminals in jail was not a smart vote.. the mayor can be more productive into doing her job...

I've always disliked the word " inherited" by politicians. They weren't assigned the job : they pursued it.

She's typical of a long line of democrat Oakland Mayors who are afraid to say who is causing all the out of control crime in Oakland.

Maybe Florida can send some police and DA's up to help out. The Governor fired a DA for failure to prosecute criminals.

Regardless of the number of recall efforts aimed at the Mayor, the District Attorney, and others, transforming Oakland requires more comprehensive actions.

Stronger policing will push the crimes to SF and south bay, and nobody wants that to happen. Very few outside NorCal care what's happening in Oakland, but if SF or South Bay have any serious crime and homeless issues then it will become national or even international.

Oakland has been political loser for a long time . Along with all the people that lately have had their hands in the political arena, they are more worried about racial balance than doing right for the community!

the root problem with Oakland is much deeper. the crimes are visibly heightened due to the weak economy and outdated law policies. these people are very short sighted, and their call efforts are probably going to do more harm to the citizens of Oakland than good, long term. no "RIGHT" mayor or police chief is going to come in here and turn things around in less than a year. the current mayor is actually implementing a lot of good program and hiring the right people in the place of power, that can make impacting changes. however, it's going to take some "time" to see its fruit of labor. unfortunately we can't help others from having knee jerk reactions to the "current situation" but we need to take action based on facts, rational and a solid backup plan. the old head let's bring back "status quo" mentality is poisonous... it's not forward thinking at all, in which the city of Oakland desperately needs.

As much as I don't like Thao at this current stage, socio-economic problems are not solved over night and Thao needs to work more on her PR
