We did similar in our community after a hurricane and were threatened with fines from the county government!!! They picked apart everything we did from cutting the logs too long or too short, blocking the ditch (not in the ditch but around the ditch), obstructing the road (road was blocked by felled trees), construction equipment on roadway (had a backhoe to assist). Oh, BTW, this was 3 days after the storm had passed and no one had seen anyone from the county, just the volunteer firefighters checking on people's well being. No good deed..... We ended up telling the "officials" where they could take their threats. Later, those elected... weren't re-elected! A community takes care of their community!
I wouldn't worry too much about that now our country is in such a financial upheaval that our own president that they call President it's scared to come out cuz he doesn't want to be threatened. I mean we're 34 trillion dollars in debt no one has any money cuz of inflation so likely they won't interfere too much with this one unfortunately that is wrong and it's sad that they're not there faster but the people are stronger.
Good for you and your community . helping others and yourselves and protecting yourselves from political oppression . That's the Real America our for fathers fought and died for.
That CAT with the gripper attachment was a time saver. Glad it was available. The great thing about being human is having compassion to help during a crisis, and that's everywhere in the world. Be safe out there.
@@stevegabbert9626 Nice toy. Watching a good operator is a thing of beauty. ☺️ Hopefully, some folks have some cash or fuel to help keep these boys going. 💪🙏
Heck, in rural s Illinois the residents do more road work than the county commissioners. Farmers have their own road drags and basically everyone has 4 wheel pickups that they actually use. After every storm we go out in force clearing roads and fixing washes. The county usually comes in behind us with more rock and some limb pickup but we all know each other and it just works better that way. No need to celebrate and go nuts its just the way things get done. County does the heavy lifting like bridge replacement. Its a win win.
I'm from the upper Midwest and it's the same here. The only way to get the county to do anything is to go out and start doing their jobs for them. (They hate competent competition.)
Oh well. Fema didn't have money and the government won't either if people stop paying taxes for no representation. If they wanna play those games then dont re-elect those officials and tell them where to go. :-)
I'm impressed that the local officials didn't try to tell thses people the bridge wasn't safe and that they had to stop...for their own good. Great job from the people showing what makes America successful.
Well Sadly many ignore warnings. Many do not prepare then complain when there is not anyone able to reach them immediately. They assume that others do not need help. And that there is an unlimited supply of people able to help
Honestly, this is why the government wants these men to be sick , broken, incarcerated or crazy. So they will no longer be a use to their communities and a threat to their order.
@@mc9551 The government is literally out saving thousands of people - they helicoptered 50 off the roof of a hospital. You yanks will do anything bar pay your taxes willingly for a better society.
Let's differentiate between New Orleans and everyone else who got hit by Katrina. Outside of New Orleans, we were all doing stuff like this. I nearly wore out my chainsaw!
Western North Carolina is the new, New Orleans for this hurricane. People are trying to help, only to be threatened by athorities and fire departments of being arrested.
During ice storms in rural VA anybody with a plow and a scraper would clear their street. Down here in FL, our unpaved road gets leveled out by a guy with heavy equipment. He goes out of here at 4 or 5 in the morning and wakes you up until you get used to the noise, but he sure comes in handy after a heavy rain when the road gets rutted. 😊
Clearing it is one thing, having the bridge wash away and rebuilding it is another thing altogether. Glad they could clean up the debris and help people.
If anybody can recover from its the precious people of Tennessee. So many God fearing people there who know how to love their neighbor. Love all of you and praying for you. Im overseas or I would be right there beside you.
They should be careful and have a much lower weight limit until the bridge can be inspected by an engineer. Just because it is still standing doesn't mean there isn't damage.
It doesn't matter how you vote, some people are the "get it done myself" type and others are not. The reality is that it takes time for governments to get the ball rolling, especially when there are lots of moving parts to coordinate.
Good example of ppl coming together similar when ice storms hit Noxen, PA. They had their town done before FEMA showed up. 😊 Congratulations 🎊 Prayers 😊Hugs ♥️ 🤗
Seriously, your on here to complain about that? Please go find your rock that was evidently washed away by the hurricane and crawl back under it please.
I live in Washington County Florida. This story really resonated, as we are also a rural community that comes together when hurricanes hit us. Great story. We were cut off for a few days during Sally due to massive flooding, as we also had over 30 inches of rain.
We do similar when the snow flies and we get snowed in. We don’t just wait for some low life Fire Chief to tell us what we can do, we just pull together and getr’ done. Once had the county tell us we ere not allowed to leave our houses do to heavy snow. When my neighbor had an emergence, we fired up the 3/4 ton 4x4, slapped set of chains on and headed to the hospital. These pitiful Ambulances running around town are worthless.
I have windered why thsoe resedents that were able werent helping cleae things away. So glad and thankful that they are!!!! Most people always pull together and help each other!!
It seems to me that most people have this kind of attitude when things go sideways, it’s usually the county government that fouls things up by throwing their pompous egos around and threatening the citizens with fines for doing what’s needed to get everybody the help they need before another week passes by.
I wonder why these people are paying taxes. Isn't the excuse that people talk about having to pay taxes in the first place is "don't you want to have roads" But when the roads are gone people have to fix them themselves with the help of volunteers and people out of state.
Goes to show that we can't just sit on our backsides and wait for some thing wonderful to happen. When things get difficult, the government is simply not going to have your best interests in mind, they aren't all knowing and omnipotent.
American’s should be self reliant first and foremost so they are strong enough to help their neighbors and community. Many strong resilient Americans coming together to help each other. 🤗
The Appalachian people are resilient. For generations they have done for themselves, family, and neighbors. Nothing has changed. They will get it done, Make do or Do without. God Bless 'em!❤🤍💙
This is what it's gonna take in these unprecedented times...communities, individuals, state local and federal government, churches and charitable organizations...to restore the storm damaged areas and storm damaged lives. A beautiful effort.
This is how America used to solve problems. Community got to work and did it themselves instead of waiting for some government agency to show up on their schedule.
Where are those construction battalions who can drop a mobile bridge in mere minutes to storm ravaged cities located in the mountains so they can receive life essential supplies? I am sure there are thousands of Army personnel who are watching this disaster wanting to help but can't.
