In this video I show you a recent 3d print I completed of this 1/10th scale Radio Controlled Tow Truck. I printed this on the ‪@ElegooOfficial‬ Saturn 8k Printer with Sunlu Standard Resin. The main body of the truck was a 3d design I purchased (link below), with all other additions being either free stl files (such as the mirrors), or scratch built, such as the tow truck bed and mechanism.
Although this video is not a complete build video, I do cover how I put this together, and what materials I used to complete the build as you see it so far. I also cover some of the painting process, as this was a bit more challenging than I expected, but I'm happy with the results all round on this project.
Thank you for watching, and if you have any questions or suggestions, please leave them in the comments below.

I had heaps of fun building at this larger scale, and even more fun driving the thing around the yard! I'm really looking forward to doing some more videos around this topic, (on top of the terrain building of course), but I do find this a great hobby to be involved in, either alone or with a group people. Thank you to everyone for watching and supporting the channel this past 6-7 months. Home life is still a little challenging since the fire, but I'm hopeful that new opportunities will show up if I stay positive and focus on moving forward. Your comments and support of the channel are something that makes a difference every single day. Take care and all the best.

You need to paint eyes on the windscreen, a mouth below the hood, put larger side mirrors and voila! Matter from Pixar's Cars is here. Beautifully made mate. Well done.

Thanks! I dabble in all kinds of stuff, but scale building and RC are 2 of my favourite hobbies. Being able to combine them in something like was so much fun. The video did terribly haha, but I can't wait to share some more of these types of projects on the channel, I already have plans for the next one. Thank you for watching and commenting mate.

Great Video Shawn! There is another RU-vidr called Darkwing Dad that goes through different spray can filler primers (mostly for FDM but I think he has tested them on resin prints as well) that help with layer lines. This adds a bit more steps in post-processing but the results are stunning.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check him out for sure. Given the time spent sanding down lines, filler sounds like the way to go. Cheers.

It has been a fun project. I've since added the electric winch on the back of this, so once I get the interior finished I can move onto the next project, or projects...haha. I have to do some more of these though, so many possibilities. Thanks mate.

This thing ended up looking pretty fantastic. Hitting larger models with mini painting & weathering techniques is so very fun! I bet this was an absolute joy to work on 😋So very cool to see you back in the hobby space!

after seeing your last video when the truck was in pieces still and you could see the welds (or however you refer to them) now with it looking clean with an awesome paint job, it is cool to see the transformation! I know as an artist the small stuff you want to get right doesn't quite go the way you want them it gets frustrating but wow it looks great!

Great to find another Aussie on here.... That looks friggen awesome.. I love old tow trucks...I look forward to seeing more of what you do with this truck and some more if you make them.... I make 1/16th scale FDM accessory parts for my WPL C54 (80 series LandCruiser) and I have found that if you buy Rust-Oleum brand filler primer in a spray can and give it light coats, it gets rid of the print lines, it might help you... I then hand paint all of the items.. that is the only spray paint I do on my models. I also do the same for other FDM prints that I make for myself or others if it needs painting.

Thanks Tim. I've noticed there are some really cool WPL products, they look great for customising and building on, I might have to get one or two. 1/10 scale is great fun, but also quite expensive to get a decent chassis setup to build on, so I'm going to look at some more of the smaller scale stuff. Thanks for the tip with the primer, I'll try that for sure. Cheers mate.

Thats some fine work. Resin is annoyingly brittle, but that was still very much worth building. Cheers!
@RFDHobby
@RFDHobby Год назад
Thank you very much. There are some definite limitations with the resin, as I mentioned in the video, drilling has to be done pretty carefully, and still I'm not certain of it's overall durability. Other than to say I've driven it around and it holds up to the rattle and bouncing of off-road driving ok, but I certainly wouldn't expect it to survive a roll down some rocks or anything. The flip side I guess is the print quality, it looks great, and if you're happy to keep it right side up, it's absolutely worth it.
