Love this technique! Just a question though, do you peel the plastic backing off the Washi tape before adding resin to the back? Thanks so much.
@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin Год назад
Hello Chris! I usually dome over the plastic backing, but you can also just dome the fronts and let the plastic backing provide a level of protection for the back side, it really depends on how your finished pieces will be used, how durable you'd like them to be, and if you have time to dome both sides. Doming both does give your pieces a smoother, more rounded feel, but it'll be your choice. I hope that's helpful :) fran@little-windows.com

Hi Christy! I've been giving your comment some thought and I totally agree with you. In this case the cost to get started is quite low, and will depend on how many projects you want to make, and how fancy you want to be with the jewelry components. For example, if you plan to make the Domed projects you can get started with: - washi tape $2.00 - 5.00 - a sample set of Brilliant Resin $8 (can make between 20-40 Domed pieces, depending on size) - a Doming Tray, which is either $3 or $14 depending on the one you choose - jewelry findings The jewelry bits you choose is really the driving factor for these projects, what you'll need to complete earrings or a necklace can range from $1 - $100 depending on the type of metal you choose and how fancy you want to get. I often take apart old, broken, or odd jewelry bits to make new things. Please have a look at the tutorial post where I've got a list of materials, links, and project close-ups: www.little-windows.com/blogs/project-center/washi-tape-resin-jewelry If you were more interested in the bangle bracelets, you'll need a mold ($8), and a bit more Brilliant Resin to get started, but I do think it's affordable either way. Have fun creating and let me know if I can be of help along the way :) - Fran@little-windows.com

How do you pierce holes in your pieces? I tried a pokey tool and a fine drill but the resin split!
@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin 3 года назад
Hi Diana! I use this Spring Drill that comes with 3 sizes of drill bits, and always drill on a hard piece of wood. www.little-windows.com/collections/drills/products/spring-drill-new Drilling a hole will remove a bit of material vs. poking a hole that forces material to spread out. Keep in mind that some resins are more brittle than others, our Brilliant Resin drills beautifully, even after a year. I hope that helps :) - fran@little-windows.com

I was reading that the part B tends to discolor after a period of time. Once, mixed and set up, will the finished piece discolor after a period of time? If so, do you know how long before it does? I only ask because I have seen antique peices that were beautiful when made, but after a couple decades they have discolored or became brittle.
@debrajol3585
@debrajol3585 3 года назад
After a couple of decades they’re all going to yellow to varying degrees. Peter Brown has a video, I think it’s called ‘Are They Lying To Us’ and he shows a bunch of his resin projects from over the years .. which brands did better & worse. He works large so it’s easy to see. Another thing if you’re worried is to make colorful pieces & semi avoid stark whites.. as white seems to be the issue. Idk on smaller projects if it’s necessary tho. Happy Arting! 🌹
@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin 3 года назад
Hello Karen, sorry for the delayed reply. While all resins can start to tint over time, our Brilliant Resin formula is far more color stable than most. We developed it for jewelry making, and has the best mix of characteristics for this type of project. In these pieces you'll hardly notice any change unless you held it up to a brand new project after a few years. On the Domed pieces we are applying a thin layer, and in these castings the warm golden color of the washi tapes will also make it less likely that you'd notice discoloration over time. I have pieces that are 7-10 years old that look great, but resin can be vulnerable so please take care of your pieces. You'll want to be sure your creations are stored in a place out of the light and high heat, and keep them away from harsh chemicals like perfume, self tanning lotions, etc, as these can dull the surface over time. I hope that's helpful :) - fran@little-windows.com

I prefer uv resin simply because other resins tend to yellow
@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin Год назад
Many UV resins discolor too, it's just a matter of time. And while they are well suited for certain projects, UV resins won't work well for these jewelry pieces where I'm doming on washi tape, because they will curl and warp as they cure, and peel off of the substrate. I recommend Brilliant Resin for these particular projects, you'll find a discount code if you sign up for our monthly e-mail newsletter too :) Thanks for your comment, fran@little-windows.com

Can you dome a piece made with uv resin?
@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin Год назад
Hello! That's tricky with washi tape and some other surfaces because UV resin can resist and pull away from the edges. It can also curl during setup as UV resin shrinks, and can delaminate fairly easily. For other techniques it may work, and the product you select can make a real difference, but I'd stick to epoxy for these projects :) fran@little-windows.com

If it helps.. in terms of the glitter washi tape and the extra bubbles... I spray my object or glitter washi tape with alcohol first and then submitted them in my resin... Or if that's not possible I put a thin layer of resin over or on the object before submerging it into the resin... Both techniques help prevent bubbles

@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin 3 года назад
Hello Janice! Yes these ones are amazing as you need to make sure nothing is touching the edges of your shapes, otherwise this contact can draw the resin over the edge. Here's a link to the Silicone Doming Tray: www.little-windows.com/collections/doming-trays/products/large-silicone-doming-tray We ship via USPS and the cost of shipping will be based primarily on the weight of your package. We offer both First Class Int'l and Priority Mail Int'l, so if you'll go back to little-windows.com and add whatever you'd like to your shopping cart, then enter your full shipping address, reliable quotes for your options will be shown for your approval prior to payment. You can play around with what's in your cart to see the effect on shipping cost, any package over 4 pounds (1.8kg), must ship via Priority Mail. Here's a code you can use on your first order for 10% OFF, to help offset shipping cost: LW1020.
