Richie Kotzen is on the podcast tomorrow! Also, The Darkness are going on tour in UK, USA and Europe this year, tickets are here: www.thedarknesslive.com/tour-dates/
Lucky people in whose countries The Darkness are going to land on tour! My economy is not as well like for travelling outside Spain to watch you, but i wish it was!
Ah, the version of which i just said "SO autotuned that is should get roasted for it. Horrible and lazy interpretation, "lets smooth over all the edges and make it beige"..". Not taking those back, if it is the same one we are talking about. That is the kind when you are making a product and eventually as you are polishing it, you take all the things away from it that makes the original great. The original has GREAT sense of parody and laughing at yourself, over the top stadium rock anthem with cheesy lyrics. Trying to make it "authentic and intimate"... It is kind of like people thing that "Every Breath You Take" is a love ballad, and then make a cover of it non-ironically. You did not get the song, you used the song, exploited it. Taking away all the edges it became nothing. And you obviously have the talent to do better.
My wife and I walked into our wedding reception to “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” and it is one of the memories most people still have of our reception 15 years later!
Doing a whole youtube video reacting to people covering your song is possibly the coolest thing I've ever seen a music artist do. Great respect to you, Sir!
@@snailmail4152 They have a bunch of greats to chose from, but personally I think "creep" and "all about that bass" are simply fantastic renditions of the originals, if you're looking for a few songs to start the rabbit hole. ; )
Watching a musician comment positively on a cover rather than have it taken down is the perfect way to please old fans and gain new ones. Brilliant. Go Habs.
This is a very special song to me. It was playing on the radio as I was steaming down the road far too fast having been told my one day old son had been rushed into the SCBU. If you listen to the lyrics imagining new parents looking at - and unable to hold - their one day old child in an incubator hooked up to various medical monitors they take on a very different meaning: ‘I believe in a thing called love, just listen to the rhythm of my heart, there’s a chance we can make it now, we’ll be rocking’ til the sun goes down…’
It's great to see you being so generous. A lot of bands (I'm looking at you Eagles, in particular) would not only refuse to acknowledge these covers, but will actively strive to have them removed and blocked. I really don't see the sense in that. It's not like we are going to buy their version of the song instead of your's, and it keeps your version in people's minds. The Darkness are still current because we haven't forgotten you, and these covers are part of that.
I get it in the sense that it's their property, and they can share it how they like. That said, I discover many songs I never heard because others do a cover of them. It will make me go and look up the original so I can check them out too. So if you want more people to hear your music, let more people play your music.
@@SobrietyandSolace they're rubbish. If I hear anything about "Closing the Goddam door" I would take the person responsible for playing the song and ensuring they ended up with a broken nose as I CLOSED THE GODDAMNED DOOR.
This is what the internet and RU-vid was invented for! A video of a rockstar watching artists perform covers of one of their songs. And how brilliant are those covers!
My husband and I walked out of our wedding into our reception to this song... (the original version, not a cover) it will always have a special place in my heart!
Wow! The second version just reveals your amazing songwriting! Only the greatest rock sings can slide between genres. You have so many songs this applies to!❤
I’m not usually into going to see live performances of bands that only perform covers, but the spins PMJ put on tracks make it *so* worthwhile. I’ve seen them multiple times, and try to go every time they tour near me.
We had this as our first dance song. Started with the Delta Goodrem cover and then went into the Darkness version to get it going. Our second date was a Darkness gig in Newcastle so seemed quite fitting for us. Been married 5 years now, so we “believe” 😀
My wife and I have chosen your original song to go out after our wedding on 27.05.2022. And we saw your concert in Amsterdam on last Friday. It was genius. Thank you for your music.
It must be pretty flattering to have people cover your work in different ways. To me, it represents the imprint you've made on this earth. Very tangible. I still smile when I see the videos of The Darkness live and I hear the first notes of that song. It just lifts my spirit.. Your music and your channel have made me smile during some health issues and just given me a reason to feel good whatever day I listen to it. I hope to see you whenever you manage to get to the Boston area again.. Thanks, Justin!👍
Panic at the Disco for me. This song is so rock and roll! That's what I love most about it and Panic pays perfect homage to the spirit of it, adding their own flare.
I tune in for every episode. I never would have thought that Justin had such a great sense of humor and so interesting What has shocked me most is his deep understanding of music. I honestly thought he got where he was because he could sing really high notes. Once you follow his Chanel you realize he is a musical genius and a guy you’d like to hang out with.
hmph. That great sense of humor is what had music critics slagging them off. TD were the greatest new, hard rock band of the dawning century and deserved respect. but that's a-okay. millions around the world still love The Darkness.
As a DJ for a small public radio station in Astoria Oregon, KMUN, I picked up this song and gave it a lot of air and became a fan of the band, following your trajectory right up to this day. Couldn't have been happier you started this vlog and now this! Happy happy joy joy. Justin, you rascal.
This was one of those videos where you started to smile right away, and then never stopped 🙂 I'd say number two did the best work in interpreting the song.
Apart from yours the original, I loved the New Orleans style version. It also put me in mind of Amy Winehouse for some reason. She’d have covered it brilliantly . ❤
My favourite was vintage New Orleans, it was so different and had so much flair! Loved the sigh and the skat 😆 just brilliant. The wedding one was excruciating...I kept saying why? Why? WHY? whilst it was playing.
The New Orleans version was my favorite, too. I play in a doom metal band and we've covered it. It works surprisingly well. Plus, I don't have to try for the high notes in our slow doom version. :)
Imagine a song you wrote being interpreted in so many ways around the world. Justin is so humble but he surely must realise he is one the legends of our time.
AGREED!!! That version was my favorite also. Just a beautiful interpretation. I love her attitude along with her brilliant voice. I also love watching your face react to seeing these performances. It’s a great face😊
Every artist did a great job and are all very talented! Justin, I think you may be on to something here! Although I don't know if every original artist is humble and cool enough to listen to their own covers - you prove once again you are far more than a rock star!
You know you have a great song when you can swing it in a few different ways! Postmodern Jukebox was my fav, but Panic at the Disco was awesome, as well. All great efforts!
Thanks for introducing me to Halocene. I dug into their channel and after hearing Addie here am liking what I hear. She's got an impressive voice and I'm looking forward to what she does in future.
You are amazing Justin, your appreciation of all the styles is really incredible. I'm not a musician, your break down of all of them helps me appreciate them more as well.
Justin, I am so happy I found out one of the musicians I loved so so much as a teen has a YT channel and I get to see him and share his thoughts. Back then, I wanted nothing more than to know what those celeb guys were like, and now you are making my dream come true. The music of The Darkness made me really mad at myself for not being able to sing (as well as you do) but yeah, it's a hardware problem, can't do anything. Anyway, much love and I am so happy that in a world of arrogant people full of themselves, you seem way different and genuine.
When I was 15 years old, and taking guitar lessons. My teacher played I Believe in A Thing Called Love and his wife sang at a very local small-town gig. He played the entire ending guitar solo behind his back. It was EPIC. I'm now 35 and have been a fan ever since. You are such a lovely human, truly.
Wow! So many interesting interpretations. Confession: I became aware of The Darkness because I was asked to come up with an acoustic version forba wedding. In learning the song I became a fan. I vote for the New Orleans version but all were pretty remarkable. Cheers!
My wife and I sang a duet cover of I Believe in a Thing Called Love to start our wedding. We met at Karaoke, and it seemed a far more appropriate start than the traditional wedding march...
Post Modern Jukebox, monsieur habitant. Their interpretation makes the song seem to belong to that era. Adorable! The joy you bring! Speaking of Darkness covers, there’s another, acapella, of just verse and chorus of Nobody Can See Me Cry by Alexandria Boddie that soars way above the clouds too!
My rock band back in college covered I believe In A Thing Called Love in 2007. Didn't win the talent show, but I nailed all 3 solos. Thanks so much for everything you do!
Yeah. It's Post Modern Jukebox for me. Clear winner. I absolutely love it. Definitely the most creative interpretation, although mad props to the guy playing all four in the attic, wearing his wife's clothes while day drinking. Also very cool and fitting that Panic! at the Disco did it. Clearly some mad love and respect there. And the "octave-higher" girl: Wow! The vocal control at the top of her range! She had some real fun with it. Et, Les Habitants!
Yes, PMJ's version is my favorite cover. Yes they changed it around and made it their own, but they did it in a way that seems they have a genuine love of the song, and "honor it"... while demonstrating their own amazing artistry.
Everyone was a winner in its own way. And one you could check out in your own time (or in a future video like this one, eh?) is Hanson. Yes, of "MMMBop" fame. They do a fantastic live cover.
You know what's funny... Is I have been watching your yt videos for years now... And didn't even realize you were the singer/guitarist to one of my favorite bands lmfao. Good stuff
I love the second version. I am completely with you on that one. What an amazing interpretation of such a brilliant song. Love your band by the way. 😁😄
My first dance song at my wedding was I Believe In a Thing Called Love - Delta Goodrem blended with darkness version. It worked really well as it sounds like a nice slow song to get everyone up and then once they're on their feet it blended into the classic rock version we know and love and everyone had no choice but to stay up and keep dancing haha!
We considered having the Gareth Bush wedding version as the song we left our ceremony too, but after a lot of thought went 'screw it' and left to the original (and best).
I can't believe it's been 20 years since that song came out. I remember when it did come out and how it captivated me, dont' remember how I discovered it but still listent to it today.
I liked all of the interpretations. Justin, you should be flattered, honored, and proud of yourself that other artists were moved in some way to recreate your song in so many different ways. This is certainly a nod to your songwriting prowess.
@@HessianLikeTheFabricYeah, Republicans have been told to be angry at drag queens all of the sudden, and like good little lemmings, they’re off to the races.
@@HessianLikeTheFabric weird brainwashed murcans think this is the top geo political problem right now, bare them no heed good sir. edit: hes subbed to a we love trump channel so you know hes super brainwashed hahahahaha
ohh loving some of these, gonna check a few of them out more :) Keep being awesome Justin! A thing called love is a very good day drunk song >< dont need to hit the high notes if you are drunk enough to believe you hit the high notes
Man I love this channel. Didn't know how to take you at first, but once I knew you sang and played that wicked axe as well as you are the singer of "a thing called love" I'm in 100% aa well as I immediately subbed! I mean how could one not be a total fan? Love how you are phenomenally awesome yet you don't take yourself so seriously and I could sit and chat to a guy like you for hours. I love how royally English you are too man. The absolute best music always comes from across the pond. Always without a doubt! It must be so gloomy there that you Brit's just have nothing bloody better to do than crank out hit after bloody hit. So remember to stay great and Pip pip Cheerio, carry on my mate.
You mention about weddings, myself and my wife walked (more strutted) out of our ceremony to your original version. Such an exciting exit for us!! My vote is for the Postmodern jukebox version though
My fav is n2 as well PostModern...etc... It's a brilliant whole different interpretation of the song, just love it. But I wonder... not in a " technical" way but emocionally... Justin... with the Panic at...cover, listening to the crowd going THAT crazy about a cover of YOUR song... How does it feels?? The influence, the impact you had and have on such a big amount of people... You ( all the guys in the band) must be so proud ,I think... Is it moving for you? It would be great to know how you feel about that. Love The Darkness ... every minute, every hour, every day 😂. Congrats for your whole career and for what is yet to come. Tons of love from Madrid❤.
