Thanks for your content. I have just managed to get a ROW spec 110 station wagon that has a build date of Jan 2000 and as far as I know was supplied to UK MOD and shipped to the Falklands where it spent its first 12 years or so. It was civilian registered in 2013 with a V reg number plate and has a Landrover certificate confirming its build date and ROW spec. It has a TD5 body fitted with 300TDI on a galvanised chassis from new (presumably because of its being deployed to the Falklands) and in 2013 only had around 40,000 miles on the clock (presumably again due to the lack of road miles in the South Atlantic!) It now has 86,000 miles showing (confirmed by its MOT history since 2013) and drives like new. It is in Black paint with a Grey roof and matching wheel arches so i think it was possibly on duty in the MOD as officer/ admin transport not troop movement. It really is a great thing to own and I feel lucky to have found it!
To me the 2001 ROW is the grail; has the salisbury rear, but, unfortunately, the non-ribbed roof. Everything else as yours. Absolutely love mine. Great video for us purists ;-)
Would have to agree with you that the R.O.W. Defenders are the cream of the crop of all years and models for doing what it says on the tin as such. I have a Snatch Land Rover 'most' of which were rebuilt in 2005-2006 using a combination of Otocar Turkish made HD Chassis, Some ROW items such as 300tdi, Puma/P38/Wolf rear axle, R380 cooler, Td5 dash with digital speedo, plus a lot of "Wolf" XD Military architecture such as the 24v wiring. They're interesting hybrids from a similar era. Keep up the good work with the LR Workshop pages, its an unparalleled resource for diagrams. Thanks for setting it up.
Thank you for the tour Will 👍 Well, because all parts change over time (and mostly to what's available) , its quite hard to identify ROW Defenders, I suppose 🤔
I have 300tdi 110 assembled in Kaliningrad, Russia, special order for MchS, which differs slightly from this one and is itself pretty unique, because only 107 such Landys were made. You will not find this anywhere in the Internet, I've found it by accident. I think Defender is the most unique car, so many modifications and versions were made, I don't think another such automobile exists.
@@lrworkshop All 107 (or about that) were made in 2000, I am pretty sure this is one of them, however mine is green with a white roof. Before buying it I called the factory to confirm if they actually made these, secretary couldn't tell, redirected me to some technicians, they couldn't confirm as well, but I guess I was lucky that day - a guy who worked at an assembly line back in the days bumped into the person I was talking to, heard that conversation and got the phone. He told me he actually participated in assembling these Land Rovers, some of them were white and some were green. I thought that story was too nice to ignore and bought the car right after that. You can check one of them on the Instagram, the account is landy_jeremy, it's not mine, but they are siblings and has been purchased from the same person. One of these is still for sale in my city for about 11k EUR.
Yes, most were made in the UK. The 300Tdi engines were made in Brazil and imported to the UK, and some Defenders were also built in Brazil as Complete Knocked Down (CKD) kits imported from the UK. Here's a link to an old website where a visit to the Brazil factory was made web.archive.org/web/20160429120858/www.ihana.com/big_trip/diary/2002/12/dec2002_landy.htm Will
@@lrworkshop It is my understanding, that when LR went to the TD5, they still needed the Tdi for countires with average fuel and serivceability. The MOD also had problems with the EMF noise coming from the TD5 which LR could not suppress. (Though an Australian company did but LR werent having that (head shake) ) So, LR sold the rights of the 300Tdi to MWM International. They produced the 99 onwards 300TDis and developed the HS 2.8 from there.
Lovely tour. What engine is that from? Is it just an enlarged 300tdi. Up to a 2.8? The more I watch channels like yours and look around at who still use Defenders, even though they aren't made anymore, police, fire, coastguard, search and rescue, utilities and the list goes on and that is just in the UK, the more I can see the Grenadier filling a gap.
2.8 "TGV" or "HS". Designed as an improvement by Maxion, the Brazillian company that made the 300Tdis towards the end. The capacity is increased and a few other changes. I've got a video about it
