Hello Logan, Nice to hear from a colleague miller from the States, (Nice Stellingmolen Vermeer) and to hear you also like gardenwindmills. Are you buying a second-hand in bad condition? I have repaired the upperhouse corners with coated compressed plywood and made vertical lines in the wood with a handsaw. I have rebuild the lower house also with compressed plywood and covered it with grinded straw and polyester coating. Polyester will protect the lowerhouse for a really long time and the grinded straw will give it a authentic look. These wipmolen models (build in Elst, Utrecht) are great quality but still needs paint over time. My restoration project survived almost ten years on a roof without maintenance.
