In this video:
A customer desired her vintage countertop radio to be restored. She also wanted an auxiliary audio input so the radio could be used as an audio amplifier for an external device. This radio needed a bit of TLC concerning the chassis. However, the radio itself was in really good condition with few minor issues and typical component replacements.

Hi, I am from Turkey and I interested in classical devices, I have various old things . including an (Emerson) radio. I think it is smaller than the radio in this video. It is one of my father’s possessions. He had brought it from the United States when he was studying there in the late forties. I I turned it on once forgetting that it needed an adapter, because our electricity is 220 volts, so unfortunately it had a malfunction. You are doing a beautiful and unique work. I wish I could send it to you to bring it back to life. My regards to you.

Thank you for watching and your compliment. The Emerson style radios look similar to a few Packard Bell and General Electric designs. You would most definitely need a step down transformer given your mains A.C. voltage. Sorry to hear about your mistake. I made a similar mistake once when I lived overseas. I think I still have a General Electric model 414 that I need to restore. Kind regards to you.

Well done, sounds and looks fine. One thought on the cabinet (if you get another to do in the future) is to use a release agent (used in mould-making) on the mouldable plastic to stop the epoxy sticking to it. Works with most materials (albeit when used mostly with pourable silicones, plastics etc) so may work.

Much appreciated! Any suggestions on what releasing agent would work best?

@@HavingFunRepairs I use Smooth-On Universal Mold Release (for hard plastics) and Mann Release Technologies Ease Release 200 (for softer plastics, silicones etc). Can't guarantee they will work but maybe worth a shot (assuming that you can obtain these where you are, at reasonable cost).

@@ralphj4012 many thanks. I have a GE all American 5 that needs work and it's plastics are in poor shape. I'll look into these and see what I can get my hands on.

The chassis is the metal component that the parts mount on, the part that is cracked and broken, in this case made of bakelite, is the case. When I was a child the police band was at the top of the AM broadcast band around 1500 to 2000 on the dial.

Surely a better quality speaker would improve its audio performance?

Absolutely, but it's also not an extremely sensitive rf receiver either.
