Sometimes there's bad news and cloudy, rainy, thundery skies. But then, when you get a path forward and a moment of clarity, it's as if spring is in full bloom. That's what happens in today's barnfind blog update as Daniel describes both a recent issue and win!

The weather change was a fun skit bit.I don't know about dying vinyl, but if you leave it in hot sun, that'll kill it for sure. ;)

Safety Fast ! And as you assemble the motor put lots of grease on all bearing/ wear surfaces (gudgeon pins /big ends /mains / camshaft lobes / push rod ends / timing chain / distributor drive gear etc ) so everything is lubricated at first few seconds of startup. Also easier to hand spin the crank to align/ time things (timing chains camshafts etc). Craig

I believe that the leather seat kit from Moss would be an investment worthy of your project. 😁

I love these build videos :-) Very well done. As for the vinyl dye, I've changed a set of vinyl-covered door cards & armrests in my 83 Toyota from grey to dark blue, using VHT vinyl dye spray cans. Cleaned thoroughly first as per the instructions. It's held up nicely for about 4 years now with no signs of wear. But then, the climate here is more temperate, not as hot as L.A., and it's not on parts that see a lot of touching/wear. Personally, I'd be more inclined to have seat bottoms and seat backs re-upholstered with new vinyl or leather, for fear of having spray can dye wear over time in areas where you sit on / rub clothes on a lot. It might hold up, I just don't know... Anyone else has any experience with dying vinyl seats?

As an upholster for 30yrs, I have not had good results with vinyl sprays or brush-on. In your heat I would not suggest it, and sitting on it, it will come off. I would live with it or go for a new kit. It is not hard to do. well worth the investment. Leather can soak in the color vinyl, being plastic, the coating sits on top and will rib, or flake off. You can do this. paul

Check out this series of answers regarding TA front axel. From a quick look you might have the cotter pins in the wrong way and have no adjustment for the lock stops.

Thanks Bernard, cotter pin holes are tapered and only go in one direction, bump stops rearward to limit the steering travel 👍🏼

Have you checked the stub axles for cracks? These cracks are very common in old stub axles and are life-threatening. Greetings from Germany!

I’ve used VHT spray with decent results…doesn’t go very far as the can size is geared toward changing shoe color!

looks like the seat was tan, i would look into what might remove the rest of the red dye rather than try to dye it again.
