He said he worked (as in past tense) until he was in his early 80's. So if the original restoration took 5 years and the additional repairs another 4 or 5, that would put him somewhere around 90!
Yea it's happened to me. Not only with my classic cars, but with house repairs as well. Sadly, I've had lawyers tell me there is nothing I can do about it. The problem is, as a retired bachelor with no kids or family, my funds are extremely limited. I don't mind paying for quality work. But I've sunk thousands into things that have had to be redone multiple times.
Ive restored 2 Caddies of this era. Sad to say, but these cars need to be restored properly by a Resto shop with a good reputation. $150K minimum. Chrome and trim are expensive to restore. You get what you pay for.
Most of the car you see at highend classic car auctions are the same way. They are only cosmetically restored. This is a very typical situation. That is because most collectors do not even CARE about the functionality of the car. They are merely used for show to stroke their egos. REAL men (and women) DRIVE their collectable cars!!!
