Yes, I agree. Longer videos would be great. And also discussing some of the products you use for polishing etc. I assume these types of videos are for a specialist audience, or at least an audience who has a interest in the details. I am a performer, not a maker. But I have a keen interest in both instrument making specifically as well as wood working in general.

I liked it how it was first too. Very few people mastering something crafty have this kind of sense of old charm and don't overdo. I don't know why... But maybe fewer people would buy it ?
Love your videos. I was a close friend of another South London maker (Camberwell) when I lived there. (We since both moved to different countries.) Your work is superb. I just watched (again) your video on resetting the two LP headstocks. Brilliant! Thanks!
The absolute best paint stripper for anything applied over a delicate plastic surface is automotive brake fluid. It takes a while to do its job, but doesn't harm the plastic in any way. For items like pickguards, just put them in a shallow container like a baking tray, and submerge in fluid. It gently returns the paint to a liquid state rather than making it come off in clumps. It's great stuff.
Last night I watched you restore this guitar … who would have thought that tonight I would watch a Lemonheads video and see that very guitar … pre-restoration!!! 🤯
Great job. Love the paint and especially the aged red tortoise shell pickguard. And the white pickup covers look so much better. Looking like it just came straight outa Fullerton!
This was always my dream "classic" guitar to own.... My heart sunk when I saw the hideous job someone did on the black paint job. You performed a miracle and brought it back to its original beauty. Great job. My uncle owns one that looks just like it. He says He'll never sell it to me, but every man has his price.
@@monmixer yeah, ive done my shopping around on them... Haven't found a decent one in my price range yet, and the cheap ones are in worse shape than this guy had to fix up. I may bite the bullet and get a fixer upper. But I really want my uncles sunburst. The thing is cherry and has a great history. It also plays like a dream. Probably the best frets ive ever fingered. It's like waiting for the woman you love to come to her senses and cone home with you.

I wanted to see you insert the new frets, fix the defects in the body, strip the pickups, assemble the guitar and set it up (or at least parts of those activities). I wish to say"Thank You".Over the past 8-9 years I have graduated from a "Decent Guitar Tech",into what I can now confidently say"Luthier".I have watched 1,000's of different luthiery videos & soaked up all the knowledge like a dry sponge. With my skill set now,If I blindfolded someone,handed them a"Fender Custom Shop"& a"Partscaster",I guarantee they would NOT be able to tell the difference playing it(unless it was plugged in and I had not swapped out the pickups yet).But,if I was to put good pickups in a"Partscaster"?And then plug it into an amplifier next to a "F.C.S."?They still wouldn't be able to tell the difference.Thank you,and everyone like you on the internet who has taught me so much about how to bring a guitar to life.Guitars that I thought had no mojo,are some of my most favorite ones now. It's amazing how much one can learn when they apply themselves to a craft.I've been playing for 30 years but it's only been the past 15 or so that I started working on instruments.My competence has grown existentially over the past 8-9 years due to the fact these videos exist.
Glad to be of some assistance. I built my first guitar in the mid-80's, pre internet (yes, there was such a thing!) In those days I had to rely on the few guitar building books that existed. Many mistakes were made and I had to work it out myself. But I enjoyed the journey. Occasionally I am asked why I share my techniques and trade secrets. I have learnt so much from those who have chosen to share their knowledge, and I want to do the same. Social media can be a very negative space. But one of the most positive aspects is the way that knowledge and learning is exchanged,

I'm 47 years old.I remember when I would have to walk a mile down the street to the pay phone because we forgot to pay the phone bill and they turn the phone off...lol. I personally think the world was a much nicer place without the internet. I have a lot of good memories, and the majority of them are pre-internet. The internet does have Perks though because of things such as what I described to you in my comment earlier. It's knowledge right at the edge of your hand. But you have to be careful with the Internet or it will suck you in. My wife and I had been married 25 years before I even purchased a laptop computer for the first time...lol. once again thank you so much. Only just found this channel and it's fantastic. I dream to have a guitar like that one day... , amazing work and would happily have watched every step. Love the old tortoise shell pick guards with a sunburst finish, reminds me of picking up my Dad's old Shadows LPs when I was 12 for the first time, and instantly falling in love with the look of the vintage Fender gear. Great job man. I do a lot of this kind of work as well. The best part was the refret solution. It takes mighty balls to pull them frets in place. And the headstock decision, I agree, less is more.

Beautiful work. I had a 1965 Jaguar I purchased in 1991 for $250 in Excellent condition, when they were just starting to come to popularity again, sold it 4 years later for $1,000 and have regretted it ever since. LoL.
Looks amazing. My only complaint is that you have an incredible knack for passing over the more interesting aspects of the restoration and dwelling for long periods on the less interesting sections. I would have loved to have seen the reassembly of the guitar or the actual refinishing, or maybe some playing to hear the guitar. Instead we got two minutes of polishing a pickguard and a long stretch of fiddling with the decal.
I agree with Lord Jock.. you should have sanded the headstock, then applied a light coat of clear, put on the decal, then another coat of clear. As it looks now, the area where the logo was doesn't look right. Otherwise, a nice restore job.

Thank GOD he brought this to you! I only wish that you had personally done the finish. I understand that subcontracting this to someone who does this all the time. I have been doing this for 30 years THIS YEAR and I have seen all kinds of things that people do to guitars and most of them should never touch one - let alone perform shadetree luthery to them!! Bless you, Sir for you have done an excellent job restoring this guitar to its' original glory. I also wish that I could've seen you refret this as well. But as it only takes a little while to do once you get the hang of it you can show at least a little snip - it of how you crown, level, dress, etc. Thank you for sharing this with the rest of us and don't be afraid to show us your next project. I subscribed and will be looking for new videos in the future.
Thanks for your kind comments. I did video the more of the refretting process but somehow managed to delete a number of those clips. There are other videos on my channel that focus more on fretwork.
For the waterbase decal to adhere properly, you need a gloss finish. Better to sand down the entire headstock, apply new lacquer in a glossy finish, apply the decal using decal setting solution, then cover with Dullcote to hide the edges of the decal. Then you can re-apply the Glosscotte finish over the topo of this. As for the yellowing, a light stain can be applied right after sanding to match the surrounding finish before decal application begins. Stew Mac makes tints that can be added to their lacquers to match vintage finishes.
It's a shame they don't make them like they used to. Now if you want a guitar that would outlive you now you have to pay top a dollar. I guess if you think about it there's a lot of things that were built back then to last. I'm a big fan of this guitar and I really loved the new color. I know it's a pretty basic color but there's a reason why it is so popular. I really love how it turned out. You did a great job and you were able to reuse all the original parts. A lot of people these days yank all the old stuff out and stuff in the new and fancy stuff of today. If you think about it the new stuff is only trying to imitate the old technology. Look forward to seeing your next video.
A Jaguar was $389.50 on the Fender price list for 1968 without a case. Adjusted for inflation, it's approximately $2950. I'd argue that these were top dollar when new. If you buy a new guitar for $2950 now, then I see no reason why that would not last a lifetime too.
Great video! But don't be afraid to show more detail like which tools you use and which chemicals exactly and so forth. Would have loved to see your work on the neck and reassembly. You do excellent work!
I'm really enjoying these videos. It would be great if we could see the clients reaction to the restoration as I'm sure they were thrilled with the result.
