The sunroof in my E30 coupe looked very similar when I pulled it off to address bubble rust on the top corners. I sprayed the rust chunks out with compressed air and shaking it around, and knocked down and treated all the visible rust. Paint and polish and back on the car, working well!

That is a DIN connector for a CD changer, likely an old Alpine unit. For mirrors, should be a large hollow bolt between the two pieces and an internal spring. May be an XZN triple square to remove the bolt - at least that's how it is on Porsche mirrors of same general vintage.

Hope you wore lots of breathing PPE when removing the foam. But oh boy that looked satisfying. Another great vid but like a few of the comments I prefer more talking on the car videos. When you restore little items and stuff like that I feel that’s where the silent videos shine, because you can turn em on and not think about it much, where as the car videos have more substance and cool stuff to talk about. Love the content tho
@RestoreIt
@RestoreIt 6 месяцев назад
Spot on, thedlc. The main reason I didnt do a voice over on this one is because I ran out of time due to the brand deal deadline. I'm getting tired of brand deals and would like to move away from them. So i'll be doing a few things to aid that in the comming weeks and months. I have realised exactly what you said in your comment. Progress style episodes like this need a voice over and the start to finish projects don't. I'm totally with you. Cheers, mate.

@@RestoreItthe funny thing about my Touring is: I started disassembling and then got stuck, 6 years ago. Now my grandma gave me her Sedan, also very rusty, cause she didn’t manage to drive without power steering. So I got some other e30 project in between my touring as well. I think it’s some kind of cycle. Whenever you get one e30, another one isn’t that far away. But man, great cars. Little bit rusty and thirsty sometimes ^^

Please - wear some gloves when handling any car fluids & tool fluids. They're in fact really hazardous and we just get used to them such that we don't care. They're not much to have on skin or breathe few times, but repairing as cars hobby or job in long term really gets to your health. This may be really cumbersome (with filming in meantime especially) but it's worth it? Side note: We don't think much of it, but also really exposed to chemicals as proffesionals are (especially art) painters, leaving them to many ailments in their later years.

LOVE THE PROGRESS!!! So excited to see the next episode, and I would definitely replace the sunroof component. Not so sure about the longevity of that fuel pump tho lol

Thank you as always, Michael! Sunroof is getting replaced for this series and the fuel pump should also be done really, i agree!

The spare cable is for a factory option cd changer that was usually a kenwood, and the wing mirrors won't separate from the base units without damage meaning you won't get them back together, i tried when i restored the 325i did, it is possible with newer models with a special tool that basically drills out the sleeve holding them together and anothe special tool to press in a new one with a new spring

Thanks for the brilliant info, Will! Much appreciated. I think they'll be blasted and painted as they are.

I feel restoring the door on a independent video is a good compromise.

Good job on getting the engine started, getting it to run properly will most likely involve a major tune up. Keep up the great videos!!

What a great access door for the fuel pump!. So easy to get at without having to drop a tank.

Yeah really cool! The only thing in the way is the carpet, but as you can see that is easily defeated.

Your plugs looked very dirty. Also check the air pipes incase they have holes or rips from air filter box back towards engine. Also by not having throttle cable connected the butterfly valve in throttle body would’ve been fully closed and thus starving engine of air. Once u connected that it started. I would flush fuel lines as well and clean injectors out. Probably have crud build up on the injector filters.

Great comment, thanks Shaz. I'll check all of those things in the next episode and see how I get on with it. Much appreciated mate.
