This pair of Thorogood Moc Toe boots was sent in for repair. Thorogood boots are great because they are worn by so many hard working men and women (construction workers, mechanics, plumbers, pipe fitters and others). After adding new leather welts and Vibram Chisty wedge soles, these boots are good to go. Time for another restoration!

Those look familiar. My dad worked at General Motors in Delaware. His boots were an exact duplicate. He would leave his boots at the front door. I made sure that his slippers were waiting for him. We were fortunate to have a true cobbler in town. So any repairs were done by him.

I wear Thorogoods. For all the reasons you mentioned? Yes, just comfortable. Best boots out there? No, but no breaking in. The rubber welt? That is not good, but with a real welt installed, they look great.

I'm definitely a thorogood guy. I wear a 6" moc toe at work, I'd rather have an 8" but I'm required to wear black boots and the 6" are the only they currently offer in back and make in my size.

I have a pair of Thorogoods. Good/comfy work boots. I too dislike the welt used when made, always wished they were leather. Also glad to see a leather mid-sole added by you guys. Kudos to the owner of these kicks, nice job at keeping them clean and conditioned. Those are somebody's old friends right there.

I’ve been applying heavy amounts of Bear grease to my boots. I work in a paper mill around caustic chemicals that tend to dry the leather out. Despite all my efforts I do not think they will last until a resole as the leather is beginning to crack.

Another quality resole from you guys back to the working man. Thorogood is such an iconic brand. Going to attempt a minor cleaning and restoration to the old Redwings based on watching you. Soles were done about 5 years ago and they're sold.

I’m on my second pair of Thorogood wedge sole boots. They’re the most comfortable I’ve ever had, but I took the factory inserts out and put Superfeet brand in. The wedge sole helps give you better back support, and arch support(I think). My company(TMMI) gives us $125 a year towards steel toed shoes. We are a large auto plant, and you’ll see several maintenance men wearing them. Any time that we have a large number of construction workers on site, you’ll see several pairs of Thorogood’s in every craft.

Excellent video. I just purchased my first pair of Mock Toe from Thorogood. I wore them for about an hour and they are very comfortable. I’ve always worn red wings. We’ll see how this will last.

It’s awesome to see that the more affordable priced GYW boots can be recrafted a bit. How hard is it to swap the fiberboard to a leather insole? Does that just deform or tear up the upper too much, or is it realistic to ask from good cobblers?

Great job, love Thorogood boots. I’ve always wondered why toe box is slightly different when comparing the waterproof lined and non waterproof moc toes? The overall length of the moc toe stitch is longer on the waterproof boots? Any reason for that? Thanks guys great video!

Mmm...for a shoe/boot that has a full 360 degree welt, it usually takes 45 minutes to an hour for the pair.

They were good boots when they got to you. They are better boots now. I wish companies like Thorogood wouldn't cheap out on things like the welts. Like how much more would it cost them to do it right? If those had had leather welts, this would have been a much faster job to get done.

Do you like the cork to be straight across, equal thickness all the way across the soul, or a little convex so the foot flattens out the cork? The guy had a little problem with the shank on the second boot rolling up when he was putting cork in. Is that an issue ?

Hello I got a pair of 10877 redwings that happened to get black mold in the inside of the boot I don’t know if you guys call that the insole but what ever it is I’m wondering is it’s something that’s replaceable or are the boots pretty much trash at that point. Everything else about the boot seems to have plenty of life!
