Extremely satisfying restoration video of an old Ford RC Truck.
This restoration was quite involved, and took many hours between filming, cleaning, and repairing this old electric toy truck.
The RC truck I restore in this video is a vintage 1980's Tamiya Ford f150 ranger step side model. It is an electric, radio controlled model car powered by a 7.2v battery pack delivering power to a 540 size electric motor.
To start the restoration, I disassembled the entire truck back to a pile of parts. Some plastic parts were broken, and many screws were rusty. The tires were destroyed, and the body was dull and damaged.
The plastic and aluminum parts were cleaned in soap and water, and some old adhesives had to be removed.
The electronics had to be cleaned and repaired. The speed controller had some bad solder joints, and the battery plug needed to be replaced. While I was restoring these components, I decided to eliminate some connectors and replace some old wires.
Luckily the electronic servos and radio receiver were functioning properly, and just needed some cleaning. I chose to replace the old rusty electric motor as these are common and not super significant to the authenticity of the truck.
Next the Ford truck body needed to be restored. The plastic was extremely dull, and the color was gray while is should be gloss black. I left the original decals in tact, and proceeded to polish the plastic as well as the decals. It worked very well, and the shine and color was restored.
The tires were extremely old and damaged, and beyond repair. The wheels had been spray painted at some point in the past. I was able to restore the original color of the wheels by removing the spray paint with acetone. After the paint was stripped, a fresh set of tires were installed.
During reassembly, I also upgraded the shocks to modern oil-filled units. These are much smoother than the old parts, and improve performance.
I was able to find some of the missing parts to complete this model on ebay.
During re-assembly, grease was applied to all gears and moving components that required it, and thread lock was used where screws are likely to come loose.
When the restoration and repairs were complete, I was able to enjoy running the toy truck as it was intended to be ran when new.

haha had one also was a blast... completely destroyed it though.. a buddy was into racing associated rc10 at the time and we put one of his old electronic speed controls and i believe it was a 12t double... had a little track flat out on the straight into the first jump... that thing tumbled for what seemed like forever broke the body cracked the frame in like 5 places one of the wheels went flying... total right off as they say lol brother had a hornet friend had a frog and grasshopper... i had a clodbuster that sat in my closet up till about 10+ years ago brought it to a hobby shop wanted to update the electronics get it running again... he liked that it was all original and offered to trade me for an emaxx... so i did... but yeah the black foot was my first proper r/c

Nothing’s more gratifying than taking something that’s been neglected for many years and turning it back into something worthy of being displayed on a shelf again. 🤙 I restored around eight vintage R/Cs now, but have three more RC10T1s to finish up...Keeping the late-‘80s and early-‘90s alive and well!

Cool video. That was my very first RC truck I ever had when I was 14 years old. I'm 45 years old now. Long time ago. I was just thinking back though and I do not remember my Blackfoot having speed controls like that. Mine were all electronic I guess you'd call it. I also remember putting a whole bunch bigger engine in it too, it was not only fast but wow could it jump for also. :-) I remember I stayed up all night long putting my brand-new Blackfoot together. I was so tired the next day I couldn't even go to school. LOL

Melted the speed controller..😂😂 The White resistor Block had to be changed all the time.. 😁 Ahh, that times.. Miss it now😟

Traxxas still had mechanical in the 90s lol but they weren't exposed like the tamiya ones. Definitely a throwback on tech though. I had a guy come in the hobby store he had bought a re-release of the cloudbuster and had never seen an electronic speed controller before and he was my kit didn't come with my speed controller LOL I blew his mind will just say that it's really cool seeing people that I wanted to get back into the hobby again very thankful to be working at a hobby shop and I get to see all walks of life of different ages but love when people come in and talk about the old cars.

@evi1dav3
@evi1dav3 3 года назад
@@SatisfyingRestorations the "Tamiya" plug was the standard for many years. The plug you used was sold as a Dean's Super Plug back in the day (90's) not sure if they still are. It was a great video and it and has rekindled my interest in R/C's. Makes me want to get my Clodbuster going again. It's fairly stock though it has matching Magnetic Mayhem motors and a Novak esc that can handle 10 cells. It throws 4 very impressive rooster tails on 10 cells and will wheelie for day on pavement! It's been sitting for about 20 years so it's about time I do something with it. Got several others in need of help too. Kyosho Laser 4x4, Associated RC 12L and RC10 buggy, Bolink Legend, Tamiya uhhh.. I think it's a Blackfoot or another that uses the Blackfoot chassis (Frog?) to name a few. That was a walk down memory lane. I had a FROG which was the same chassis.

I had that truck when I was a kid, I saved my money for a year and bought it and a radio for $500, I had to put the entire thing together, it taught me so much about how stuff worked and following directions Etc. Now we just by them “ready to run” and yes I’m 45 years old and still playing with RC.

Bottom mount battery on a truck that bounces off of rocks. Interesting design. Great job cleaning it up!
