Great job, but you placed the chessboard coordinates incorrectly: A1 field is black, and the each pair of opposing sides should have the same coordinates, and letters should face the player, and pieces should line along lines 1, 2 for white and 7, 8 for black.
Except for the gold or tan color paint which really clashed with the brown tones, I would have applied black including the criss cross diamond areas. Further you used wood putty filler in some holes and left others unfilled. The rest of the project was good.
I'm a great fan of yours and I truly appreciate your skills, craftsmanship and positive attutude. Keep your great work! P.S. Do you think it's ok to use bare birch plywood (without veneer) for a top surface of a drawer (or any working surface)? If yes, what kind of treating does it need - would it be enough to sand it, stain it and cover it with oill with wax? Does it need several oil coats with sanding between them?
Hello and thank you, birch plywood is generally used quite frequently for the sides and bottoms of the drawers. You should experiment with the oil to see how it might turn out. I don't sand between coats of oil. I use 0000 extra fine steel wool like this amzn.to/3ECSvJr
If it's a plan you use often I wouldn't use it. Strengths and weaknesses of birch Good workability and ease of cutting. Good aptitude for finishing: it lends itself to being painted. Mechanical strength: decreasing over time Delicate, it must be handled with care. Fears humidity: outdoor use is not recommended (also because it is easily attacked by parasites).
