Restoration of the 1967 Fisher Stereo Console

In the beginning of this video I mention that this console might have been from the early 1960's This is not the case, in fact looking this exact console up online, I am quickly greeted with information which mentions it being one of a series of consoles which were all built in 1967. With the console being solid state, it would make sense being built around that time period.
As I mention there is still more restoration work to go, so I will make these videos as I work on this unit.
Thank you for watching.

The right side is for a R2R ... you need a special one to fit , fisher used a tandberg unit as they were small enough to fit ... A Sony TC-250 will fit... the reels just barely clear the sides., and you can close the lid while it plays .. never heard of cassette players in 1967 ...

Well, unfortunately this cabinet is no longer in my possession. Life changes deemed it necessary to sell to someone else who could. It was a great cabinet while I had it though.

The changet ks mechanical. Melt the guh-lue, that was grease and lube it up with 21st century oils. It is mot making it through the cycle. Not going all the way to the detent, end of cycle and os getting stuck and going into not break itself mode. Do melt the old lube out before a grease bath There is also clockwork bath stuff out there.....(No idea how to mix that brew...)

I have a similar Fisher (Ambassador A961) - how did you take the amplifier out? I also need to clean mine. Did you pop it out from the top or is there something to do from the bottom?

Not a BVSR turntable. It's a Dual 1009. Made in Germany

I didn't actually think it was made by BSR, I more meant "BSR type" as in record changer. But good to know. Maybe someday I'll finally work on this thing again.

The original owners are probably dead. My grandmother got a vintage stereo just so she has a place to decorate with her nick knacks. What might be nice is if you install a XM Radio and run the sensor on the outside so you can use the remote.

The original owners ARE dead. I bought this from an estate sale lol. I am actually the second owner, from what I know. The first couple kept this thing from when they bought it new. I even know which retailer sold it too them. As I mention in the video, I will be installing a separate computer system for the digital stuff which is less intrusive to the console. I am not a fan of XM nor will I be implementing it here due to SirusXMs low bit-rate standard for Satilite transmission. Not to mention the cost of that is prohibitive. Internet radio, as well as it's own digital library of music is more than enough. I have a HUGE collection of music already.

Well they sure as heck put out a crap load of bass. EDM sounded pretty good on it.

i think you should not change what is it was made that way leave it all vintage it is really a shame with people canibolize a great vintage console that is just wrong and never should be done what you are going to do is just wrong it is not meant to be in there how can you destroy a great vintage piece of gear you should just not have bought it you are going to ruin what it was meant to be a basic vintage console stereo not a modern computerized piece of modern junk

If you think so much that I am going to destroy this console that I rightfully do own and did buy, when all I ever talked about was restoring the original components back to their working conditions, and possibly replace the terrible added in cassette player from the last owner, then I think you need to recap what you just watched. The only "new" components I plan to add are a couple new tweeters(the old ones are shot, which I've replaced since this video) to improve sound quality, and like I've already said, add a new digital system(which would be almost completely non destructive to the original console), and possibly replace the turntable since it was also shot, however I do plan to do my best to restore the old one. You also apparently misunderstand the meaning of restoration, as well as what these consoles were designed for. The engineers back in 1966-67 hoped and/or knew that this console would need to be upgraded or restored when they designed it. Which is exactly why the console itself has a separate build in compartment for an added component. Not to mention the amplifier chassis is loaded with expansion not originally used by the initial design, but for added features for whomever owned and wanted to make the console fit THEIR needs. This is what these machines are about. I am doing nothing wrong, and if anything right by making use of it and doing what I want with it. Or would you have rather it gone to the dump like most everything else in that estate sale I purchased it from?

I do wonder about the people who replace all the electronics...these are little bits of history, just feels like a duty to maintain and preserve them for future generations. Might seem hokey, but hey, console stereos were a cultural thing even. I have an Executive, but it's not my main stereo, I just have it for the history and it's a nice piece, and it sounds much better than I thought a console could too, just use it for special occasions.

Actually the speaker line up appears to me to be a basic Bass speaker & the 2 smaller ones are Mid-Range & Tweeter. I think I'm seeing the Crossover Network on the right side of speaker enclosure at 4:57. As others noted, that is a Dual turntable with Magnet Cartridge & should sound awesome. Thanks for the video.

That is such a beautiful cabinet. I hope you can get the electronics working well. I know Fisher is a good brand in high-end stereos.

Unfortunately I have sold the console as I've moved since and had to let it go. The good news is, sounds like the folks who bought it want to really work to restore it. Here's to hoping they do.

Was when this was made. That is a Dual TT NOT a BSR.
