After weeks of cleaning up the old piper cub we finally decide to try it out. Well, my dad got to try it out lol. This was the first flight in about 15 years and was sadly short lived. Clearly the old mans rusty. I Didn't even get to see it land once. It also would have been nice to actually fly it myself also. This fuselage is about 15 years old and has hundreds of flights on it, it had never been crashed until today but It will live to see another day. New maiden flight soon.
Update: thanks for all the comments. Yes plane was obviously tail heavy and a rusty pilot helped bring her on down...... this cub has since been rebuilt and still flies to this day! Rebuild and new maiden video can be found in the rest of my videos.

Being an actual pilot makes so much sense watching these rc plane crashes. He spun it. One wing stalls before the other. To recover, opposite rudders from spin direction and forward stick pressure. Then pull up from dive

Yep but in the cockpit you quickly realize what happens and react accordingly (unless paralyzed by terror) but while RCing the model and at the distance, you loose precious seconds until you realize what is going on, I tell you as an RC pilot. The higher the models flies the better.

I'm a heli guy but also love planes, and particularly Piper for its clean shapes and overall look, haven't started flying planes yet but would love to, with an electric Piper. I am so sorry to watch this crash, it was such a beautiful model and I can't imagine how much time was spent on it. Hope you rebuilt and hope you never get glitches like this again

@@warbuzzard7167 look at the way this guy was flying it, I own a a real J-3. No hate to this guy but he has no idea how to fly it, look how uncoordinated and steep his turn was causing him to skid and stall a wing. This was pilot error. Google skidding turn into a spin and click on images and… what do you know his aircraft state and the picture look the same.

While the plane appears to be tailheavy with resulting excessive elevator authority the location wasnt an easy one either with tall trees and light poles. These would be restricting areas to manoeuvre an already difficult plane to fly

It looks to me as though the pilot lost orientation on the direction of the plane as to the cause of the crash. Unless something failed, that was all pilot error. Good to hear you'll have the bird in the air again one day. The cubs fly slow and easy. I can't see the need for so much elevator input. The plane was up and down quite drastically which was two things, trim was off or pilot error.

Dude. That was such a shame. The cub is a pleasure to fly when well sorted. I have a 142" 1/3 cub which is a darling. I use it to tow large gliders up. Sod’s Law landing on gravel. If you are not confident and want to rebuild it give it some dihedral. It might have stopped this happening. As you improve you can reduce the dihedral. Make sure the c of g is about 25% wing chord. It was also flying faster than you could keep up with. When the crash is imminent cut the throttle and give full up elevator next time! The best way to develop skills is to Aquire an electric epp flying wing with a motor at the back. Virtually indestructible. Discus launch it to avoid cutting your hand on the prop. My piper cub was a pig to fly till I gave it dihedral. Looks funny, but at least it flies.

If you rebuild with same 4stroke engine, I think you can use a slightly bigger prop w/maybe less pitch, for better thrust. That's what 4 strokes are for. I am thinking of finally getting a cub. Will probably add wing tip colors for visual coordination. That way I can use the plane to train my neighbors who've never flown before.

Kind of a bad place to fly such a large model need less trees so you don't have to make those sharp turns I noticed it kept wanting to stall looked like CG was not correct too much tail weight. I know this is an old video so years ago this happened. Before you fly a model check the CG out really good. If your tail heavy and get into the air stalling like that is a real possibility he had the throttle back too so just flying too slow and it stalled spun into the ground.

Was the plane balanced correctly at the recommended CG? Trying reducing the exponential rates for your rudder and ailerons. I have seen this accident repeated more than once with the same aircraft. The Cub cannot handle a low, slow, steep, high angle of attack turn. It will fall off on the inside wing. then go into a stall spin that cannot be stopped. If you have time read the book entitled 'Stick and Rudder' in it this type of spin and how to avoid it is discussed and analyzed in detail.

Tims Menuiserie it didn’t snap roll on the turn at all, he was trying to turn at a slow speed, using ailerons only on a tail heavy Cub. The turns need to be wide with the CG being so far off and even when CG is correct then there needs to be manual rudder input if it isn’t mixed in! When cubs are set up correctly, they’ll fly a treat and actually be almost difficult to stall, unfortunately this wasn’t one of those setups!

Looks like you had problems with pitch control the whole flight. Too much elevator travel or not enough expo maybe. Too bad though. Build, fly, crash, rebuild. That's the hobby.

Yeah right. Up elevator during banked turn over 20deg banking in a cub... he did not even recognize that he stalled the wing. "...had full ailerons...lost control completely..." man... That was a bad ownership for this nice Cub. But she is not the only one dying from nose down spin stall or ground loop or nose over or...
