thank you so much for this video! I literally am going through this process myself, I bought some '81 tops to replaced the cracked tops on my '80 and replaced the seals on them as they were a bit done for, but the force of the new seals ended up separating a good portion of the original adhesive on the edge where the locating tongues on the t bar are. I am hoping to get away with using a syringe to inject the 3m windo-weld into the edge that has come free, rather than separate the rest of the glass from the frame. It looks like my mounting posts are still somewhat attached to the glass, it's just that the rubber spacer/washer has allowed enough give for the adhesive to come free. It's also a shame I went ahead and glued in my replacement seals before knowing this would be an issue on my replacement tops, because it looks like I may have to peel back the new seals to get the windo-weld in there. Also notice you are running your tops without the perimeter rubber trim, are you planning on leaving them off?
thanks I debated trying to just inject the spot also then realized it was separated about half the way around it is time consuming. I got the car it didn’t have the trim around them I got some automotive door trim I’m going to slip around the edge that should help protect the glass edge from cracking if a rock happens to hit up there although I like the look without it
@@torque405 yeah I like the look without the trim but the edges of my glass is just too discoloured and messy with little bits of left over silicone from the previous trim, plus too was worried about something striking the edge and shattering the glass.
the original t-tops fail that’s why they get rebuilt and this is holding millions of pieces of glass on vehicles . If it ever fails I’ll let you know how and why but done correctly no worries . Keep up the positivity
