I am working in my mansion, fully restoring it. Due to rotten boards, 30 years of bird poop, and lack of engineered design, my mansion's incredible attic needs a complete rebuild. With the help of a few simple tools, strong hands, great friends, and a positive attitude, I try to rebuild the incredible, massive, dream attic.

Think twice about that cathedral overlook. I lived w one of those. Impossible to clean and change bulbs or dust a ceiling fan. Also, heat rose (could change your HVAC calculation), created a weird draft & condensate formed at the peak. Suggest you build it such that you can fill it in if you find similar issues. @warrenmichael918

@atirblum
@atirblum 22 дня назад
@@warrenmichael918 Well, warm air expands upwards? To keep the bedroom warm you have to heat it from the ceiling of the attic down to the floor- instead of just heating up to the bedroom ceiling. You have to fill the attic with heat before you get the same temperature all the way down to the bedroom floor. Good when it's too hot, bad when it's cold. Just the laws of physics.

Usually, the rule is based on the amount of conditioned floor area, and contractors in many areas generally use the rule of 1 ton of air conditioning capacity for each 400 to 600 square feet of floor area. The rule is usually specified in square feet per ton (sq. ft./ton) - you need about 8 tons or 2 4 ton units. i would just go with a couple mini splits and then also use heat exchangers plus pos pressure hepa - no more dusting - the hvac pros are going to do a ton of vents and air carriers - mostly unneeded as the hosue is going to be 68-70 all year round. put one heat echanger in basement and one in third floor - you can run both or vary them according to season for max efficiency - they are 90% efficient which means you will not lose much heating or cooling but have good air recirc plus it will be hepa filtered - air will always be going out of the house/no infiltration

I am impressed to see 2X8 joists on 12" centers. You are clearly thinking about your family with that decision. I'm lucky to have found a house that was built with 2X12 on 14" centers. Having solid floors and walls means so much to the feeling of safety. Especially when storms come. You're doing right by your family. I am envious of the camaraderie you have with your buds and I know that each of you know how rare that is - and that makes it even better. I would recommend the 5/8" drywall. In the attic-where the roof comes down too low to stand, put up walls to close it off. Put in doors that open like cabinets and use it for storage for out of season clothes, christmas decor, etc. Stuff can be out of the way and out of sight without having to lug everything up from the basement and take up all the usable basement space.

Better check with your HVAC guys before you make any enormous open spaces in the house. Huge spaces can be heating nightmares and even worsererer cooling!!! Does look really good. Thanks for your time!

It is too late to restore what has been destroyed. Remodel yes rebuild defiantly. They have obliterated the floor plan and with that the character and feel of its history.

@@greghamann2099 Yeah its a shame what Cole are doing to this place for youtube fame. Usually you try to keep your farm house in the family so it doesn´t get gutted by an outsider who doesn´t car about house history or familys legacy. Maybe its different but in my area if you take over the family house you are more of a custodian than an owner.

That attic and its windows are a treasure. Love that you're opening it up with the balcony. It would be an excellent location to make a comfy spot and perch with books in winter.

Cornstar, I am addicted to your content. I have a firm understanding of home construction, nothing is simple. Questions, do you have an architect and engineer. I know they are expensive, but can save one from big mistakes.

Ya, have your attic trusses checked, something isn't looking right for weight and bracing with the original build structure. You've got a big wind and snow load potential. Great videos!

Cole, Start a sign up competition to give one viewer a two round trip travel and stay to see the home when completed before move in. You could sell a bunch of Murch that way.
