Nice Radio, I haven't seen this type of clock radio before. Great, thank you for your efforts in making the video. Its our fortune to see many different kinds of vintage radios through your channel. The You
OK.. Now all you needed is the song "if I could turn back time" playing through the radio as the clock ran backwards at the end. That would be magical!
the little shaft on the left side of the clock back is the starter shaft I think you can spin the works either way with that shaft. I have a late 1920s wall clock with the same works..
29:04 'Why the h*ll don't they just put a *?!@ knob on there and be done with it!' Haha! If you only knew how many times I've said that about so many modern pieces of equipment! Great video!
You are correct indeed. I like Mr. Carlson very much. But, I like Ron bc its so much more personable. At least to me anyway. Carlson can overcomplicate the crap out of a grocery bag. But he'll be correct about it. Thats for sure. Prof. Carlson is what I call him most times. 😂
@@resipsaloquitur13 Ron cuts right to the chase for sure, but extra huge respect to Ron for making vacuum tubes. You can learn from Carlson, but to be honest I also use his videos to put me to sleep. I actually am a Patreon member of Carlson, the sleep alone is worth it. The fact that I learn electronic stuff is an added plus. I also like Ron's huge inventory of parts, he's got quite the museum going. The cat fart blame game is also entertaining. One thing they have in common, they both make it look a lot easier than it is.
@going I like watching Carlson's stuff too, and like that his work is intended to bring stuff back to reliable working condition. But, yeah, if there's 10 trimpots that need adjustment, he'll tweak all of them to perfection right on camera and I've never made it through a vid without zonking out.
Who, who would have taken the clock out and replaced it with a modern movement, and not just gotten either r anew radio, or not gone to the ass boring trouble of dismantling a quartz clock 😑 agh The price was a steal considering, I can't imagine what the shipping would be if that had been an ebay deal ☠️
I love seeing your cat again, always makes me smile as out cat Lily is very similar, very talkative and needs to inspect everything we are doing. Thanks for the lovely video as always. Keep well. Also, when you were fighting with the signal generator - "Why the hell don't they just put a F***ing knob on it and be done with it!" Made me nearly spit out my tea.
I had a clock that could run backwards or forwards. It used a (broken) spring loaded mechanism to start it after a power cut, it was 50/50 which way it would go. I would fight for ages with it.
Thanks for the awesome video Ron! Your cat is always a treat to see; As for the clock, I worked with one of those some time ago and if I recall correctly every time I cycled the power it would change direction; Could be a fluke but that’s what I recall.
There is usually a loose spring tab that rest against the pole cog, if it turns backwards it catches the spring which jogs the pole cog in the correct direction. Nice smooth sweep with this type of movement.
It's amazing how many people have that special something at which they excel. Ron's electrical knowledge is a wonder to behold, and he has an outstanding aptitude for the practical. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what my special skill is? I think I'm probably mediocre at a lot of things! Oh well, never mind. I suppose I excel at mediocrity? 🤣
Why do some people just use all caps in messages? Is it so they don’t have to worry about using proper word format or is it because they are screaming everything? I guess it takes too much effort to properly type something?
Some people honestly don't know it's considered shouting, but I suspect the person you are referring to is just obnoxious and is oblivious to using caps lock. The all caps is just another reason to ignore them.
Thank you for the videos you put on RU-vid, I love them so much. I also rewatch your videos as well from time to time. God bless you and kitty. 😁🙋👍🇮🇪❤️🇺🇸
Pretty rare model 51 clock radio from 1932. The clock module can spin gears either way so you must set the time forward only or it will run backward. Another cleverly repaired clock and radio there Ron. Too bad there is something rubbing in the speaker cone.
Love your cat. I have three that come to my front door I toss cat food to twice a day. They belong to my neighbors but they have safe refuge laying around my yard and getting a free snack. I'm out 32 dollars a month tossing Iams dog food to them 😂
That was an incredible display of your vast knowledge of electronics and electrical technology!!! You have a vast pool of experience and expertise in applications that are awesome!!! I did notice the clock running backwards… maybe that’s your secret… a time machine!!! Well done Glasslinger!!
Of course the clock runs backwards, it's called reverse ageing, and only a few know the secret to becoming young and beautiful again!!!! 🏳⚧👍That's why Laurens Hammond's Spin Start clocks could go both ways, he was ahead of his times in more ways than one! 🤣
Hope to see more new videos in the near future I really enjoy watching, even tho I can’t comprehend all of the electronic technology You’re videos are comforting to watch Thanks for sharing your incredible knowledge
Early alternating clocks would do that, later on the put in a little trip thingy so that if it started up going in the wrong direction the thingy the force it to restart in the other direction. You'll notice most clocks are direct current these days (even if a/c they have a d/c circuit. Those thingys could get warn out, it happened to me where I had particularly poor a/c service so it glitched alot.
Oh! yeah! Glaslinger, esse é um lindo Radio Relógio gostei de ver funcionando Oh! yeah! Glaslinger, that's a beautiful Clock Radio I like to see it working
Hi, I have an unrelated question, but I think this is the right channel, does anyone know where tu buy proper getter ring for making diy vacuum tube? Maybe not too expensive
The getters are not the problem. It is the RF induction heater to flash them. For getters, buy a bunch of old TV tubes off ebay. Cheapest since you will be breaking them apart. Do not break the tube open until you are immediately going to put the getter on your homemade tube to seal off and get under vacuum. Exposed to air, you have about 5 minutes until the getter is destroyed.
@glasslinger thanks, so the barium in the getter is stored in a metallic form even before flashing right? Witch are the tube most probable to have an unflashed getter?
@@Farben-X I find the color set regulator tubes like the 6BK4 and the like, and the high voltage rectifiers like the 1B3. Large sweep tubes also have plenty of getter remaining. Don't pay much for the old tubes. They are worth about 25 cents each.
Hi Ron your friend Dave from up North here your tech friend you get an amazing job restoring that old radio I like all your videos I went to an auction last weekend picked up an old Sims analog meter and an old philco radio they had such class and style can't wait to see another one of your amazing videos you're very talented have a safe summer and may God keep you well and bless you your friend Dave
"What's wrong with everyone..?" I wasn't there that day!! I would have definitely bid against you at least for a while. Ha. Nice restore and beautiful too! Interesting IF set up. Cheers
Hey, loved the rant about those newfangled test gear gimmicks! I like the touchyfeeliness of the old real deal. And we're going back to the future, haha!
Dear Glasslinger, Thank you very much for making such meaningful videos. They are very inspiring for me((: I'm an ex-electrician and started my childhood hobby of restoring old tube radios about two years ago. I find it enchanting that these treasures are still running like this after so many years. yesterday I finished a Saba Meesrburg w2((: It's quite remarkable how many channels you can get in with this level of selectivity. I thought I would just write to you from Germany near Stuttgart. Please make a lot more videos about it, I would be very happy((: Greetings from Germany.😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
How do people cope with 36 degrees Celsius or 97 degrees Fahrenheit. Wow that is hot. I could not bare that kind of temperature, I could only go out at night when it's cooler. It's 53 degrees Fahrenheit or 12 degrees Celsius here in Ireland. If I was there where you are I be praying that we didn't get a power outage because that would mean no air conditioning. Stay well Glass finger. 😁
You tend to get used to whatever climate you live in. I live in South Carolina in the U.S., where summertime temperatures are often in the upper 90s (37C+). When I moved down here from the north I thought it was extremely hot here, but after about 4-5 years I got pretty used to it. Then l had to live in Houston (where Ron lives) for a while. It’s not only hot there, but humid too! Now I feel even better about my location. I’d probably think it was too cold for me where you live.
This clock reminds me of one my uncle Fred had at the cottage. It was a 1960 Spartus backwards bar clock with a little sign on a chain that you flipped over saying Bar Is Open or Bar Is Closed. The second sweep hand ran backwards, and the clock face numbers were in reverse order. 🙃
@@glasslinger I herd you saying that it worked both directions. I was just step by step, When I entered into Electronics repair was in the mid 80's that kind of electronics were still around but dying fast. Thank you for your response :)
@@davids8449 Amazing! I had no idea that would work! Seems like the exhaust stroke would happen before the intake stroke. I know a two stroke will run either way but a four stroke is more complicated.
Great vid as always. I had to laugh over the menu issue. We still keep a simple setup on the bench along with more modern. I think the older test gear gets used more.. Take care sugar back to television restorations..
Hello linger, I need your kind guidance in one of the resistance value. What shall be the reading value of 8200 resistance. In the tone control circuit diagram it is mentioned only 8200, so I am in dilemma. Regards BHARATH Thank You
The convention is if there is no marking the value is in ohms. 8200 would be 8200 ohms, or if it were marked, 8.2K. Or in old fashioned resistors, gray, red, red.
@@glasslinger Thank You So Much for your kind guidance and support. If you are comfortable, please drop the Email ID, I will send the Circuit diagram, it will be helpful for you to suggest the proper resistance value. I have undertaken the restoration of my 1970s ECL82 stereo valve amplifier, so that I am kindly seeking your kind guidance and support, please. Regards BHARATH Thank You
