Thank you for your video and superlative work. I have one bought in Buenos Aires, Argentina in the 70´s. Wish you were here to fix it. It was put in a box for more than 40 years and now it does not work. Cheers!!!

I just picked one of these up for 5 bucks at an antique store. It looked like it had been through 40 years of neglect (Which to be fair it probably has). I managed to get it all cleaned up and the metal even got its shine back. I haven't actually been able to test it yet, and I'm a bit scared to open it up because of the nightmarish pile of soldiered spaghetti cables that await me inside.

you're crazy not using rechargeable batteries in that thing! I have a Sony TC-90A and a lot of the components are similar to yours. Great video.

Nicely done on your restoration. I'm happy you decided to make this video. I've got a 1970s Kenwood KX-710 cassette tape recorder I need to do a similar service on. Wish me luck ;-)

I'm waiting on belts to arrive, so once they do, I'll make a video about it.

I have 2 Sony TC 140 corders, both in excellent shape but do not work. When you press play, I can hear the speaker white noise, but nothing moves, I do not hear any movement inside the player. Nothing at all, so doesn't look like belts, since there would be at least SOME mechanical noise if they were broken. Any ideas where to start looking?

Does the volume control adjust the monitor out?

I would advice not use the glue side of the damping pads on the printed circuit. This may have a bad influence in the traces.

You will have e even better results by recapping the board

Yeah, I think I need to. Audio still sounds fine but it developed a problem in the power supply that kills the motor speed after it gets warm.

@@HutchCA also beware of rotten germanium transistors. My TC50 worked flawlessly after a recap but acted up randomly, found it was the transistors playing up... love your work

@@HutchCA could be transistors dropping in resistance after a while...
