On the technical sheet it is the 371equivalent (370). The technical sheet is from ETA who make the movement. And since the case is made by breitling, they have made the caseback to accommodate a thicker battery for longer service intervals. This is my assumption. So the round well on the caseback is there to also accommodate a thicker long life battery (399 or 395)

As a former High School advanced electronics teacher, quartz movement time pieces were part of my lecture regarding piezo electricity and electromagnetism. Some of them can generate a frequency so high, it breaks one second into 30k parts and that is what makes them so accurate. The are truly a marvel of electrical engineering.

Newcomer, I've just subbed, purely due to this video. Awesome. I've owned my breitling aerospace now for 27 yrs. First saw it at a breitling stand at an airshow & knew I had to have one. Took me 3 yrs to pay it off on credit & I couldn't afford it really, but it's been with me through thick & thin & a divorce settlement & I still love the way it looks. Glad to know I could now fix it. Cheers.

Beautiful! I personally have nothing against quartz watches. I've worn many, and they're very practical. But I've been a mechanical tick-tock watch and clock lover since very early childhood. Some of the first things I would take apart trying to figure out out how they work were my grandpa's broken pocket watches. He'd break one, buy a new one and give me the broken one to play with because as a child I loved taking things apart to figure them out. Now 50 years later, the swinging pendulums and swaying balance wheels have a romantic place in my heart that nothing else can replace.

No, not necessarily Automatic watches are a pain, you have to adjust the time every month because even the world's most accurate mechanical watch is still +/- 3 - 10 seconds a day! And mechanical watches need servicing which is very expensive A quartz watch doesn't suffer from any of that garbage and is infinitely more accurate than a mechanical because quartz = modern digital technology and mechanical = ancient technology
@J.K.Barrik
@J.K.Barrik 3 года назад
@@jurivlk5433 Who cares about all that, all a watch has to do is tell the time and a modern digital quartz technology watch does that extremely well compare to even the most expensive mechanical watches available because a top end quartz watch such a grand Seiko spring/direct drive is in a league of its own compared to the best mechanical watch available Metaphorically speaking, the internal combustion engine was a paradigm shift in human engineering advancement 120 odd years ago however, technology moves on, its called progress hence electric cars is the way ahead, petrol/diesel will be confined to history books soon and similarly, mechanical watches have also had their day with smart technology now incorporated in to EVERYTHING, digital is the way ahead

One of my favorite watches I have ever owned was from a company I don't think exists anymore. It was named Riviera, and it was the first watch I ever owned that wasnt a cheap 2 dollar watch. It had a square, gold dial and was mainly silver, with small gold accents on the watch band. It just kept ticking, and was always right on time. It kept going for almost 6 years without needing a battery. When I changed it, it kept stopping, and I was worried that because I couldnt find the company that made it anymore, I wouldnt be able to get it fixed. A few years passed, and i thought I had lost it. when I finally found and opened it up, i learned that it had a JP-01 quartz movement, one of the super cheap, easy to replace movements they make. That old friend is still in my collection as the watch that started my love for watches.

@@NekkidWatchmaker would it be possible to send you my seiko kinetic auto relay to fix. I've sent it away before and they didn't do a good job but I'm sure you could get it done no problem 😊

I’ve no issue with quartz watches, but there’s nothing like the thrill of knowing that you’re wearing tiny hand made machine on your wrist, and that if you put it in a draw and forget about it for 20 years you can pick it up, give it a little shake or a wind and it will start working again

I'm not a fan of quartz. OK.. Mechanical watches can be brought back to their original glory. You just can't shake and wind! Oils ;(Yes there are many), that are in a mechanical watch degrade over time and they are not the liquid that they were when the watch was built/ last serviced. They are STILL subject to corrosion of the mechanism. A cleaning and an oil change is important. IMHO . This is even MORE important on watches that are, :Auto or Self winding". Watches that have: complications, need additional care after your stared 20 years.

Well once you get it serviced, by a watchmaker that has the offical parts, who probably had to sign their life away to the watch manufacturer, for a price that is a significant fraction of the original purchase price of the watch.

I have 4 Breitling SuperQuartz watches, including my 18 year old M1. They all get worn in rotation along with my automatic B01’s and B04, and are loved just as much 🙂 What do the sheriffs know 😆😆😆

Very tenacious skills and patience required to be a watchmaker, microengineering is quite fascinating. Keep up the good work!
