I have tons of these in my inventory because some arcade games like Terminator Salvation, Big Buck Hunter World, Guitar Hero Arcade, and etc. But the arcade ones uses either a Nvidia GeForce GT 240 1GB Video Card or better. These are extremely reliable Dell towers you can get for so cheap, even your local e-waste facility would have tons of these units.

An interesting project.👍👍 That computer uses Non-ECC dual-channel 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM, up to 4GB and as it operates in dual channel, a 2 gig., stick in each slot should do the trick, giving the slots and the ram., a good clean often helps.

I have a mighty old dell optiplex g1 I found in one of my side rooms at my home-I'm looking for any information on any upgrade I may be able to do to it-it is a VERY OLD machine(not a tower,but a square shaped base that a monitor would sit on top of)-i'd like to upgrade the ram & have a better soundcard installed into the machine.-as I stated it is a Very Old desktop & I know nothing of how I even aquired possession of such a fossil.-I fired it up & it runs smoothly-not the fastest machine but for how old it is, I'm thinking I might just use it for word proccessing-it doesnt even have a printer interface on the back of the cpu base... is there anything I can do?

Well the best thing you could do is install windows 10, install a ssd in it and put as much ram that it allows into it, you will have to reinstall drivers after that you should be all good to good

Good to go

Well I suggest is doing the simple method reinstall the CPU sometimes dust gets in between the contacts and I can't make full contact with the motherboard it also may help to change the CMOS battery as with my research a dead CMOS battery may cause the system not to post at all.

indeed yes, thankyou for that information and thankyou for watching my video

You could do a couple of fun projects with that Dell. You can turn it into a NAS if you have the HDD's or you can install a couple of NIC's and Pfsense software and turn it into a router. Or you can install Superlite or Ghost Spectre just to name a few Windows 10, 11 OS. Or you can install Linux. Lots of fun projects you can do with old hardware.

I assume the problem is ram speed, try 1066 MHz.
@TechSimplified910
@TechSimplified910 6 месяцев назад
yes, that was the issue sadly, I was able to get the correct mhz and all is well, the system was able to post, thanks for commenting ;)

@@TechSimplified910 if not you could do as what i did, get a cpu that can support 1333, the cpu will make it work but the motherboard will limit the speed to 1066 MHz, so in conclusion it’s the cpu that rejects it, not the motherboard. As I brought a e8400 and put on 1333 ram kit, it works, only for 1066. But I’m happy with it overall :)

Lubuntu 22.04 would be great for this system, Antix would fly on this system. I prefer Lubuntu though, a bit easier to use. I think that computer uses DDR3 10600 1333MHZ Non ECC DIMM Memory. Do you have a "high" or "low" voltage memory stick?
@TechSimplified910
@TechSimplified910 Год назад
Thats a good idea, Ive worked with ubuntu but not lubuntu but I would love to give it a try, thats really cool, I would have to check on the low and high voltage memory stick

@TechSimplified910
@TechSimplified910 Год назад
oh wow thats really sweet, well thats really good to know, yes I have discovered that there was a ram issue, its because i was trying to boot the system on just 1 4gb ram stick and the bios was not ready accept that stick, I needed a 2gb to start and then boot successfully with that stick and I was able to boot using that 4gb stick that I thought was bad, so I am up and running now. thankyou for that information
