progressing very nicely, My welding instructor 30yrs ago use to say welding is 10%skill 90% practice. try wiping residue underseal with rag soaked in gun cleaning thinners. keep up the good work.
@Boothsmotors
@Boothsmotors 7 месяцев назад
aye definitely slightly out of practice its been about 6 years since I was welding my MG! since then I've had rust free projects! it takes time but im getting better!
@paulf2529

For underseal remanants, use a scotch brite pad and or a rag soaked in thinner.

Another excellent vlog thinners scotch pad and some rags should remove the residue just be mindful if your ever using a angle grinder to remove underseal on old cars there will definitely be asbestos content in it use a mask mate keep the updates coming all the best…
@Boothsmotors
@Boothsmotors 6 месяцев назад
Yeah that or lead! I’m always forgetting the mask! The under seal didn’t seem to get into the air like a dust more of a burning off even with the old angle grinder!

Enjoying your videos thanks for sharing with us. Over the years I've found that old under seal comes off without heating it and just use a good scrapper and it will leave no residue to clean off either. Best done in cold weather. That attachment on the heat gun is just to direct the hot air away from something you don't want to heat up, its definitely not a scrapper. Good luck with it all. 👍👍

Glad your enjoying it 😊 in some areas it’s come off really easily literally like sludge other areas seem to be tough! The arches have been the latter I think the dirt/salt from the roads has maybe kept the old under seal dry and non sludgy somehow 🤷‍♂️ but yeah you’re right everywhere else it’s practically falling off!

An eBay special! It’s unbranded I think it was circa £300

You were ripped off, Screwfix has the same gun under the 'Titan' brand for £19.99. Just a quick point, those metal attachments aren't scrapers, they are heat shields and reflectors, for keeping the heat off glass, when scraping windows, and for unfreezing pipes, but I think you have probably worked that out by now :). Great vids, keep them coming and thanks for sharing.

I don’t think I’ll lose too much sleep over £2! 😂 ahh definitely makes sense as a heat guard honestly never realised! I was going to get some hose clips on to hold in place. Thanks for the comment I’m glad you’re enjoying it 😊

@@Boothsmotors £2.01 to be exact, that extra penny makes all the difference, AND you get a 'TITAN' gun - that'll pull the girls in :D I am enjoying the series, I always wanted a Stag, but with 3 kids and a wife the best I could manage was an old 2000, but it was still a good car and the 2.5PI would spin the wheels.

Coming along, slow but steady, Rome wasn't built in a day. How many hours do you reckon you've put in on this one so far, also how many do you reckon you'll need to complete? Also challenging working in the cold. I always find me hands don't work the colder it gets!!
@Boothsmotors

I probably average about 20 hours a week in the garage this last month slightly less I’ve had loads of broken tools ect and I’ve spent allot of hours on the 944 This past month ( speed and ref sensors😭) but yeah I think I’ve got 400ish hours in the car atm, it’s not the most efficient working in a small workshop!

Super progress, the stag structural frame is quite good for rot , just the usual outer panels get frilly at the edges , look forward to the next episode,

yeah considering the rest of the car id of expected far worse! not sure if I've got lucky; it was undersealed early in its life; or if they're a really good design! I do think with the rain rail and proper plastic/rubber drains ( at the back of the sill) they were miles ahead of their time!
