Awesome work! Learned something new as well, the bit about adjusting the balance so that the jewel is centered between the posts. I've never seen that before. Good info. Thanks :)
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 4 месяца назад
Thanks. I find it easier to do it during that part of the assembly. You can get it fairly close at that point, rather than having to do the full adjustment after the rest of the parts are installed and it's much more difficult to see that impulse jewel alignment. Occasionally I still have to make adjustments to the beat error after it is running, but that technique generally works pretty well for me. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

I'm a big fan of your videos, I suffer from PTSD, depression and anxiety disorder and your videos pacify all that. I literally play them constantly (much to the dismay of my wife most days😂) But I just wanted to say thank you for helping me. Also, I own a Waltham Railroad watch, I was wondering if you wanted my business for a service on it? It's a really gorgeous watch, I just can't find anyone to service it in my area😢! It's running, it just doesn't like to stay running for me. I wear it, so I'd love for it to tell time lol. I hope to hear from you🙂

What should be the frequency of service 🤔 on your watch ⌚️? The oil 🛢 and grease 🤔 turn to paste after time ⏲️. I don't even 🤔 know the proper oil and grease for watches. I also find it a good idea 💡 to change the gaskets each time ⏲️ the watch ⌚️ is disassembled. Your friend, Jeff.

Thank you for a great video on a great watch: 👍👌👏! There is just on thing that gives me the heebie-jeebies whenever I see you work: the way you tighten the screws 🤪is just not what these watches were made for. And since they will probably survive both of us, you might give some consideration to the next watch restorer ...
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 4 месяца назад
I know what you mean. I’ve noticed that on video. It really looks like I’m tightening the screws really hard. In fact I’m just getting them snug, but I think it’s a combination of being shot in macro and possibly my hands shaking a little bit. I’m not tightening them as hard as it appears on the video.

Just take one problem at a time. Sometimes parts can be difficult to find and you have to search for a while. I would recommend joining a couple of forums, uploading photos and asking questions. It’s really difficult for me to give you advice on something like that without actually seeing it. People on those forums have always been very helpful to me in the past

3Rd wheel looks bent?
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 4 месяца назад
I see what you’re saying. I think it’s just the angle of the camera. As part of the inspection process, I put each wheel on a bench block and check them for flatness. That wheel was flat, but for a quick moment in the video, it looked like it was a bit bent. I think it may just be the lighting and the angle of the video being shot. It was good though.

I will. I'm certainly not asking people to donate watches. If I do end up setting up a PO Box and taking on an occasional project, I will let you know and we can discuss further. I don't want to come off like I was requesting this watch. The owner reached out to me and made the offer (a few times). I appreciate you making the offer as well.
@MRgrimlock84
@MRgrimlock84 4 месяца назад
@WeekendWatchRepair I totally understand and I'm glad he reached out because I really enjoyed the video. I've acquired a few watches over the years, and some of them I want to service myself and others, I'm less interested in. I know how much work goes into these videos just to service these time pieces let alone the work of recording, editing and doing a voice over. I appreciate what you do and if I can send something that you can use for parts or a video all the better.
@mwk9473
@mwk9473 4 месяца назад
When it comes to "named" Omega models, it's not exactly accurate that the first such Omega was the Seamaster. You can see Omega advertising from the 1930s with names like Euroos or Filenios. But they did not appear on watches themselves. Collection/model names first appeared on any Omega in the early 1940s, and to be precise - on the case back of the Omega Suveran. As for the watch in the video, I have a strong suspicion that this dial isn't original to the watch. It is a genuine Omega dial, but I think it was intended for a sweep-second movement of the 30T2 family. The hole for the seconds hand pinion looks a bit crude, there is no subdial or even a printed scale for the seconds hand. Additionally, the hour and minute hands seem to sit a bit too high above the dial. Omega's SSIH sibling - Tissot - used pinions of different lengths on their cal.27, depending on what dial was to be installed on it. I saw the exact same thing with vintage Longines with the cal.12.68, which goes to show that the practice was common not only with the SSIH brands. So, my guess is that the same thing is the case here, and the reason for why these hands sit so high is that this dial and movement did not roll out of the Omega factory in the same watch.

I remember this watch on my father's wrist since the 1950s. I've been looking at this watch since then as I was born in the 1950s. He never redialed the watch. He had it serviced in the 1960s as I remember, I remember when he took it to be serviced, and he passed away in 1975. The watch had been sitting in a drawer most of the time since then until Adam restored it.
