I recently traded a snare drum, for a couple worn and torn Tama Imperialstars. The plan was to sell this kit, but it came out so good I think I'm going to keep it! I do have another Imperialstar listed on my Reverb page.

This makes me sad. My first real drum kit was this exact set of Tama Imperialstars back when I was around 8 years old in the 90s. Sold it to a family friend years ago who neglected it and it got trashed.

Awesome white pearl Tama kit, Ironically!! Can I suggest a video ?! I was researching about DrumDial and Tama Watch, and I couldn't help noticing the extreme similarity of the two devices to hardness gauges(durometer). Both digital versions (DrumDial) and analogical versions(DrumDial and Tama Watch). Even on the scale used on all mentioned devices, it goes from 0 to 100. In the case of durometer, uses the Shore A scale of hardness, applicable for soft polymers and rubbers. You could make a video by testing this device, or if you know how they works, just explain the differences to us, and why don't have another similar generic devices who measure what the DrumDial and Tama Watch Tension measure. Thanks a lot!!

WD40 bath in a small glass bottle to soak all tension rods/washers/nuts/bolts screws works great for removing rust, crud and grime. Also, one drop of TRIFLOW liquid Teflon on tip of tension rods will make sure tension rods slide into threaded lug inserts effortlessly. Nice vintage TAMA Imperialstar restoration David! Happy New Year 2020!!

Hey Rdavidr. Beautiful kit. I restored a blue sparkle Rogers kit and didn’t pay attention to then bearing edges until I put the edges under a light in the dark on a flat piece of granite and the edges lit up. Had to redo em. CLR is okay, but I recommend evapo-rust. The black-ness is from carbon extracting to the surface. Evapo-rust is safer, less chemically and the blackening happens slower. Just don't let it sit for a week and you shouldn't have that effect, but the rust will be gone after 24hrs

@@marcoaurelio-zb4sf Correct, the Supra IS seamless - but Aluminum. Also, it's only 1mm thin and lightweight. If this snare drum is as heavy and thick as described, I would guess it is likely 2 or 2.5mm thick steel. VASTLY different sound. I have both lightweight seamless aluminum and heavier steel shells (cast, welded, and also rolled) and they all sound VERY different from the aluminum. 🤘🏻

Man, ya gotta go old school when it comes to removing sticky stuff, especially old tape residue; PEANUT BUTTER! Just cover the residue with a thinnish layer of the stuff, and get ready to put some elbow grease in. Rub with your fingertips to start loosening the stuff, and, eventually, use your nails to scrape it off. Depending on how much, and how thick, it shouldn't take too long, but the result is impeccable. Just have a little jar of smooth, generic brand PB in the shop for anything sticky needing to be removed.

3:36 Euros like me probably won't recognise the CLR brandname, so here's what that stuff apparently is: clrbrands.com/en-US/Products/CLR-Household/CLR-Calcium-Lime-Rust-Remover . What do you normally use for cleaning chromed parts? Luthiers seem to normally use Autosol or Peek paste on electric-guitar chromed parts.

I restored a big 1984 imperialstar with the same finish. I had some troll declare that they couldn't sound good. In fact he went on to say "Depends on what you consider good" in an attempt to be dismissive. As this video proves, the imperialstar are punchy, warm and great in the studio. I'd slap some vintage emperor clears and a ps/3 on them and have a blast. In my experience, if someone can't make them sound good, they are not good drummers. The imperialstars will rock.

There are two types of Goof-Off ..the basic type and then the type with Xylene. Never use the Xylene type on any plastic as you will melt the plastic. Acetone is the same way. Never use it on any plastics. Lastly, after cleaning, use SC Johnsons paste wax! I use it on my shop tools and it prevents rust and pitting like you wouldn't believe!
