In this video, I restore the interior panels of my PA-38-112 Piper Tomahawk and bring them from worn-out to WOW while saving money!
Regardless of what type of aircraft you own, these techniques should give you an idea on how to repair/refresh your interior panels!
Thank you for watching, and be sure to join me on my next video!

I need to use my Visa wrench and get you to do this for my Tommy. 😂 Looks awesome, great job!

I agree. He should be doing this as a business I bet there'll be a lot of Tomahawk owners will line up for his services!

Haha there's definitely a time/money balance where the Visa wrench is much easier!

A+. I'm getting ready to do similar work to the plastics in my Bonanza, this was a helpful video!

If your panels aren't too beat up I think its good to spend the time to restore them. They have already been fitted for the contours of your plane which can take a lot of time to tweak with new ones

Very nice work Perry!! You're inspiring me to do the same. Those panel's and Kevin's yoke covers make it look awesome. Would like to see more on your door straps.

Next time I'm at the plane I'll get you pictures of the straps. It's a nice alternative until a suitable replacement comes around. I saw Paul Sterling mentioning he may be re-making the old door holders 👍

Great video, also, is that an AMC Eagle SX4 I spy in your garage? Very cool!

Thank you! You are very close on that guess. It's a 1980 AMC AMX (based on the Spirit platform). RWD, 258 inline 6, 4 spd manual. My wife is the second owner - her mother was the original owner.

The end result looks great! What drove the decision to try to chemically remove the previous spray job? Do you think the old coat would have impacted adhesion of the new?
@planeswithperry
@planeswithperry 8 месяцев назад
That's the exact reason. I could tell it was a very cheap spray paint that was used so I didn't want a reaction where there would be bubbling or poor adhesion of the new coating. If it was the original factory coating I would have been inclined to clean it really well without removing.

Great job. I tried to do the same. Some of my pieces I couldn't save. Do you have plans on touching up the instrument panel?
@planeswithperry

I might touch up the panel eventually. I would love dual G5s and eliminate my vacuum pump. One can dream further than what the bank account allows sometimes! Haha

Dude! Just found your RU-vid channel and wanted to thank you for this video. I've been thinking of doing the same to our 77 Grumman Tiger AA-5B. I think I'm going to give this a go! Excellent work, eh!

Awesome! I hope the video gave you some good ideas. It feels good to get in my plane and see how it all turned out....and repairing the existing panels is a way cheaper venture than replacing them all. Tigers seems like they are great aircraft - happy flying! 👍

they can't be kydex molded or 3d printed?
@planeswithperry
@planeswithperry 3 месяца назад
If a person had a 3D printer big enough to print interior panels I suppose that's possible (some of the panels are several feet long). By the time a person bought that setup I could buy all new pre-made panels instead. The Kydex sheeting would also be possible for more money than I spent and far more time required (plus far more aircraft down time). Buying Kydex sheeting large enough to make the panels, plus shipping and customs, plus time and effort considerations would put the price in the ballpark of buying pre-made panels
